教学目标
1、能理解认读的生词:hug, meal, conversation, turkey, gathering, dessert和短语:give sb. a big hug, give thanks to sb. for sth./doing sth., feel at home, as usual,Are my cousins coming tonight 2、能够运用所学知识谈论How do people celebrate Thanksgiving 3、通过本课学习,倡导学生平时要善于表达对家人的祝福和爱,增强学生的感恩之心。
4、通过对北美感恩节的学习,了解中西方文化的差异,增强跨文化交际意识。
教学重难点
教学重点: 1.通过本课学习,能学会运用知识目标中能理解认读的单词、词组和句型。
2. 可以谈论How do people celebrate Thanksgiving
教学难点: 1. 运用熟练英语谈论感恩节。

教学过程
教学过程: Step1. Brain storm T: We have learned about so many festivals this week. Do you still remember them Now you have 1 minute to write them down. Ss: Write the festivals down as many as possible. Then present them to the class. Step2. Lead-in T: Show the picture of Mid-Autumn Festival and ask the questions: What festival is it Can you say something about Mid-Autumn Festival Ss: Watch the picture on the screen carefully and answer the questions. The students may say like this: The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional festival in China. In the lunar calendar, it’s on August 15. The moon is round and bright. We will watch the moon that night and look for Chang’e. We will get together and have a big dinner. We will eat moon cakes and fruit during the festival. They are delicious. I love Mid-Autumn Festival. Step3. Words learning T: Show the picture of Thanksgiving on the screen and talk to the students about it. T: What festival is it Ss: Thanksgiving Day. T: Watch a video to let them know something about Thanksgiving Day. T: What do people usually do when they get together Ss: watch the picture carefully and answer the question like this: S1: People usually have a big dinner. S2: People usually talk and laugh. S3: People usually have a talk. T: Show the pictures and ask “What do people eat on Thanksgiving After meal, what do people eat S1: Turkey. S2: Pumpkin pies. S3: After meal, people usually eat cookies and ice cream for desserts. T: You did very well. People usually eat turkeys, fruit and vegetables. After meal, they eat cookies and ice cream. We call them desserts. (板书 turkey, dessert) Ss: Read the whole words and phrases on the blackboard. Step4: Listening T: On Thanksgiving Day, people celebrate it with their family and friends. So do Jenny’s family. How did they celebrate Thanksgiving Today we will learn Lesson16 “Happy Thanksgiving! ” Now let’s listen to the tape carefully and answer the questions. 1. Where did Jenny’s family celebrate this Thanksgiving 2. How do they like this special holiday Ss: Listen and answer the questions. Step5. Text reading (Extensive reading) T: Ask the students to read the text quickly and write true or false. (Show the slide) 1. When they arrived, her grandmother opened the door. ( ) 2. Brian felt nervous when he first came here. ( ) 3. Their grandmother was cooking the turkey for the night’s Thanksgiving dinner. ( ) Step6. Practice (Intensive reading) T: Ask the students to read the text silently and finish off “Let’s do it” Part1. (Show the slide) Ss: Read the text by themselves and fill in the blanks. Step7. Group discussion T: According to what we have learned, we know Jenny’s family had a happy Thanksgiving. So sum up “What did Jenny’s family do on Thanksgiving ” Have the students find the answer in the text and then discuss it in groups. Ss: Read the text again and find the answer, then discuss in groups. After that, act it out in the front of the class. The students may say like that: They gave a big hug to each other. They said “happy Thanks-giving. They had a big meal and desserts. They played games. They had a good conversation. They took a big family photo. They gave thanks at dinner. T: You did very well. In Canada or America, people celebrate Thanksgiving like that. So we say ,“Thanksgiving is also a time to give thanks.” Step8. Group presentation T: Ask the question,“Of all the activities, which one do you think is the most important ” Ss: They gave thanks at dinner. T: Ask the students to read Brian’s words and then answer the question“Who did Brian thank and why ”(show the slide) Ss: Read the text and answer the question with the sentences like these: He gave thanks to … for ______________. He thanked… for ______________. He was thankful to… for ______________. T: Check the answers. Sum up: On Thanksgiving, Brian gave many thanks to everyone. We know Brian is a thankful boy .We all learn from him. And here we’re got four students’ thank-you notes. T: In our daily life, our parents give us lots of love, our teachers give us so much help and we also have so many good friends. I think you should give thanks to them because we are thankful. Now take out of a piece of paper and write down your thank-you notes. You can use these sentence structures: I give thanks to … for… I thank… for… I wish to say thank you to … for… …, thank you for… …, thanks so much for… Step9. Sum up and Homework T: This lesson we have learned how to celebrate Thanksgiving and give thanks to others. I think you are all kind enough to show thanks to your parents, teachers and friends, because we should have a thankful heart. So after class, let’s make a thank-you card for them.
