The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar.
The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces and eating the rice called zongzi. People do these to remember the death of Qu Yuan, an honest minister who is said to drown (淹死) himself in a river.
Qu was a minister of the State of Chu in present-day Hunan and Hubei Provinces, during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). He brought peace and wealth (财富) to the state. However, a dishonest prince vilified Qu. Realizing that the country was now in the hands of bad people, Qu jumped into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month. Nearby villagers rushed over to try to save him but were unable to even find his body. After that, people got to the river by boat and threw rice into the water, hoping that the fish ate the rice instead of Qu Yuan’s body every year on the fifth day of the fifth month. For thousands of years, the festival has been marked by rice called zongzi and dragon boat races.

Many people do not know anything about the Earth Day. They have no idea about what the Earth Day is or how to make our world a safer and cleaner place. For a long time San Francisco had more smog than any other city in America. In April, there is a special day when people remember their ancestors. It is Tomb Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. This year, the day is on April 4.
Tomb Sweeping Day is a traditional Chinese festival. On this day, families bring flowers, food and wine to the tombs of their ancestors. They put cakes and fruits in front of the tombs. After that, they sweep dirt off the tombs and remember their dead family members.
