We all know the strange feeling of watching the time change on a clock. You never see it change because the hands move so slowly. But of course, the time is changing all the time.
Human faces, like clock faces, are also changing. And like clocks, the changes take place too slowly to be noticed. Over many thousands of years, though, huge changes are possible. For example, the human brain tripled (三倍) in size and began to think more. Our faces became flatter (平坦的).
If our heads became larger in the past, how will things change in the future Unlike the changes of a clock face, the changes in human faces are very difficult to predict (预测). One of the main reasons for this is the way in which we can now control parts of nature. Hundreds of thousands of years ago, all changes were natural, but now we can actively choose ways for our own evolution (进化).
Just a few hundred years ago, most humans were working in the fields, whereas nowadays more and more people receive education. These are just predictions, and no one can be sure how human beings will become in the future. But with such huge changes in our environment, it seems likely that we will look very different in the future.

27.From the last paragraph, we can learn that ______.
A.the predictions will surely be true B.people in the past liked to be educated
C.future humans must have larger heads D.humans will not look the same as today

I once gave a lesson to a group of primary school students for a TV program.
I suggested that we create small gardens.
First, I asked the students to look for their favorite place in the school. 36 Then I had each of them describe their experiences of nature in a small garden.
In a box of about one and a half by two feet, they were free to organize—soil, stones, leaves and grass. Even as an active garden designer, I was impressed with their imagination. 37
One child created “water” that flowed into a “lake”; another child put grass in a way to represent “wind”; and yet another child tried hard to create shade... 38 That was why they took great interest when they created their small gardens. They spent a wonderful time together with nature.
39 If you notice a stone lying on the ground, pick it up and hold it. When you see beautiful flowers by the side of the road, stop and enjoy the pleasant smell.
Then, inside your mind, create a small garden of your own. 40
A.It will relax you. B.Flowers like these are all around you. C.The gardens were built many years ago. D.Try spending time with nature yourself. E.The gardens they made were really creative. F.Once there, I let them try hard to empty their minds. G.These children were often busy doing their schoolwork.

Changes Around Us
Great changes have taken place in our life around us. As for travel, many people enjoy travelling in their spare time. Some people like travelling online and more and more people can afford to travel abroad. Our studies are also changing. For example, more and more students show an interest in reading and more group work and discussions are done in class, which help us learn more. More and more people have their own cars. At the same time, more and more people prefer to walk to school instead of driving. And high-speed trains make people travel faster and easier. Our environment changes a lot, too. The air is fresher and the water is cleaner. We often take a walk happily in the park.
In a word, our life is becoming better and better. We look forward to a better future.
