My grandma came over to look after me when I was young. Laughter always filled the tiny but warm house. Watching grandma in the kitchen was amazing: she walked around the kitchen, busy but happy. She never seemed to need the recipes (食谱) and everything she made tasted delicious.
At first I would just sit in the kitchen and watch. Even though I didn’t understand what she was doing, I really enjoyed watching her and waiting for the cakes. As I got older, she let me help with the easy parts, such as measuring (测量) the sugar. The day I helped her bake (烘焙) cakes, I felt like I found complete pleasure.
Later my parents decided that I could take care of myself and my grandmother stopped coming over every day. The love of baking, however, stayed with me. I started baking by myself, and even if the cookies ended up burnt sometimes. More often they turned out pretty good. I tried out new recipes, and whenever I got to a thorny part, I would call my grandmother for advice and she would always give lots of useful advice patiently. Sometimes I would call her just to talk, too. I felt like I could talk to her about anything.
My grandmother passed away three years ago, but I still think of her sometimes. Last week, I found a recipe book she made for me in her bedroom. It included her recipes for cakes, cookies and my favorite, lemon pie. As I looked through the pages, I thought I could hear her voice and see her smile. She was the one who taught me not only about baking, but about life.
21.While helping her grandmother bake, the writer _______.
A.turned out to be a troublemaker B.found it interesting and attractive
C.hoped to make a living by baking D.regretted missing the schoolwork
22.The underlined word “thorny” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “_______”.
A.wonderful B.special C.dangerous D.difficult
23.From the recipe book the writer found last week, we can infer that her grandmother _______.
A.knew the writer’s taste well B.taught the writer how to read
C.wanted to sell the recipe for money D.thought the writer was unable to bake

16-year-old Bridget Peters writes about her hobby, making soap sculptures. I have an unusual hobby you probably only use it to wash your face or hands, but I make small sculptures out of soap. I’m really good at it these days, having read about it in many different books, and I’ve even got several friends interested in doing it. I didn’t even know people made sculptures from soap until I found a short online film about it by accident and thought it was something I’d like to try.
It’s very popular in Thailand. They often make sculptures of flowers there so I decided to try that. I surprised myself with how good my first sculpture was. I felt more confident about trying other things after my family told me how good it looked. It took quite a long time, and I didn’t really have the right tools, but I enjoyed making it.
After lots of practice, I had my first exhibition (展览) when I was fifteen. It went really well, even though the place where it was held was rather small. I made some nice posters with photos of my works on, and put them up wherever I could. So although very few people had heard of soap sculpture, they could see exactly what it was. The posters worked, because lots of people came.
Lots of people ask me why I don’t try making sculptures using stone or metal. It’s never really attracted(吸引) me, though. I prefer learning by doing instead of going to classes, so I’d love to teach people how to create these kinds of things. Everything I do is small, because soap is hard to work with. Whatever happens, I’m sure I’ll love my hobby for years to come.
24.When did Bridget first become interested in soap sculptures
A.After visiting Thailand with her family. B.After being praised for her first sculpture.
C.After reading a book about it in the library. D.After watching a video about it on the Internet.
25.How did Bridget feel about the first soap sculpture she made
A.Worried. B.Upset. C.Surprised. D.Angry.
26.In the future, what might Bridget like to do
A.Teach soap sculpture to other people. B.Watch more soap operas online.
C.Take some lessons about sculptures. D.Create sculptures out of stone.
27.What would Bridget’s best friend say about her
A.“Bridget never talks about her hobby much to me or her other friends.”
B.“I was amazed how good the sculptures were at her exhibition last year.”
C.“I think Bridget’s starting to get bored of making sculptures with soap.”
D.“Now Bridget’s got the right tools to make more sculptures with metal.”

Is there anything strange high up in the world’s tallest mountains If so, is it a big bear Is it a monkey Or is it a kind of man
No one knows. This mystery has puzzled people around the world for years. In 1887, a mountain climber found large footprints in the snow when he was climbing the Himalayas. They looked like the footprints of a huge man. But men don’t walk without shoes in the snow. People wondered at the large footprints and guessed what they were from.
In 1906, another climber saw more footprints. And they were printed on the mountainside where men couldn’t reach. Far off, he saw a very large animal standing on two legs. As he watched, it ran away very quickly.
Fifteen years later, newspapers had new stories about the “something” in the Himalayas. A mountain climber said he had seen the “snowman” walk slowly across the snow, far below him. He said it looked like a very large man.
From then on, more and more people had stories to tell. But not until 1951 did a mountain climber bring back pictures of the large footprints. The pictures showed clearly that the Snowman walked on two legs. So it was not a bear or a monkey. Could it be an ape(猿)man
The mystery grew! And the mystery keeps growing. Someday we may find out just what it is that makes the large footprints.

35.What is the passage about ________
