(2024·江苏泰州·一模)In the 1960s, a musical group composed a popular song called Monday: “Every other day of the week is fine. But 106 Monday comes, you can find me 107 all of the time.” When talking about days of the week, Monday gets 108 expectation. I surveyed friends, and the 109 were very clear. When asking which day of the week they like the least, 90 percent of them chose Monday. I disagree with them all. In fact, I think Monday is actually the best day of the week.
110 , consider all the good things that happen on Mondays. For example, quite a few public holidays are 111 on Mondays. Then Monday is the best day to do shopping because there aren’t so many people shopping. Experts say that you can also get the best online deal s(交易) on Mondays. This is 112 true for electronics, such as computers, TVs, and video games.
To me, however, there’s something even more 113 about Mondays. Each Monday 114 a new beginning. For example, last week I got behind on my homework and had to 115 going to a movie with my friends on the weekend. But 116 Monday arrived, I could start all over again.
I also love Mondays because we usually start new lessons at school at the beginning of the week. While last week’s topics may be 117 , Monday can bring a new book to read, or math problems to solve. Besides, I always become full of energy on Mondays after getting enough sleep at weekends.
I realize that I am probably not going to make everyone believe that Monday is the best day of the week, but hopefully I can 118 a few people to change. The next time a Monday comes, think about all the good things that could happen and look forward to the day instead of 119 it.
There’s no way to 120 Mondays, so join me in making the best of them. Who knows You might even start liking the first day of the workweek.

I suddenly 128 that life is full of ups and downs, so we need to stay positive all the time. Now when I think of my past, I wish I could have done with things 129 . When my mother was fighting against her illness, I should have held her hands in mine, telling her things would get better 130 of hiding and crying.

Back in New York, I am fighting fires as the assistant captain (副队长) of a volunteer fire company.
I still remember my first fire. Before this, I had never joined in any rescue (救援). As a volunteer, I needed to follow the captain’s instructions 136 , no matter what I think. On that night, I was the second volunteer to 137 the scene. When I found the captain for my task, he was talking with the 138 . She was standing in the pouring rain, barefooted (赤脚的), while her house was on fire. What was 139 , her dog was still in the fire.
The other volunteer, who had arrived just a little earlier before me, was asked to go inside and save the dog. The captain waved me over. He said, “Bezos, I need you to go upstairs past the fire, and get this woman a pair of shoes.” Not exactly what I was hoping for, and I was 140 over the lucky guy, just because he beat me by five seconds. I managed to be a volunteer to save others’ lives, not to get others’ shoes, 141 I obeyed and went off, up the stairs and down the hall, passing the “real” firefighters. They nearly 142 the fire at this point, and I rushed into them master’s bedroom to get a pair of shoes.
Now I know what you’re thinking, but I’m not a 143 . After all, I didn’t save anyone, I just got the shoes for the lady. On the way, I met the other volunteer with the 144 dog. We took the treasures we saved outside to the homeowner, not surprisingly, the 145 received much more attention than mine.
A few weeks later, the company heard from the homeowner. She said never thought that we were willing to rush into the fire 146 for a pair of shoes. I didn’t expect she 147 remember the small action.
Here, I would offer this reminder: Don’t wait. Don’t wait until you make your first million to make a great 148 in somebody’s life. If you have something to give, give it 149 , never think it’s too small.
Not every day is going to offer us a chance to save somebody’s life, but every day offers us an opportunity to 150 one. So get in the game. Save the shoes.
