第一课时(1a-1e)
Study of the Text                         
What:
Ask politely and describe certain public places accurately. Three conversations between the clerk and tourists. The tourists ask about places and the clerk gives advice.
Why:
1a-1b let students learn adjectives that characterize a place and then use them to describe the environment or qualities of a place, paving the way for later listening. 1c and 1d are long dialogues on the topic of “Traveling”. 1e requires the students to prepare a dialogue with their peers on the contents of the form, which is to promote speaking through listening and to improve their comprehensive language use.
How:
Sentence patterns and dictums of asking for directions and giving directions are demonstrated through contextualized conversations between the tourists and the clerk, using adjectives to describe the environment or qualities of a place and the precise way of giving advice. Students practice contextual reenactment of conversations by completing a series of listening tasks.

第二课时(2a-2d)
Study of the Text                         
What:
An explanatory essay on “How to ask the right questions for different occasions and different people”. The article points out the importance of polite language, lists the ways of choosing appropriate language for different occasions and people, and also points out some characteristics of civilized language. It advocates students to use language structures flexibly according to the actual situation in daily life and guides them to build harmonious social relationships.
Why:
2a is to introduce the topic to prepare for reading; 2b is to train skimming reading strategy, learn to find out the topic sentence of each paragraph, and help to understand the main meaning of the text; 2c is to train scanning reading strategy, and through filling in the form, further appreciate the differences between polite and non-courteous requesting language; 2d is to judge the occasions and groups of people involved through the known language and to be able to understand when and how to choose the appropriate language to politely express the request in different situations, so as to achieve the practice of the application of the knowledge.
How:
Adopting a general structure, the importance of appropriate use of language is explicitly mentioned, and students are guided to understand the structure of the chapter through the use of mind maps, filling out forms and other activities, so as to realize the accumulation of language materials and the training of reading and learning strategies, and to enhance the students' awareness of the appropriate use of language according to the occasions.
