Christmas was coming and ten-year-old Tracy told her father and me that she wanted a new bike. Her bike was too old, and it needed repairing as well. As Christmas came nearer, her dream for a bike seemed to disappear, we thought, for she didn’t say it again. We were busy buying some beautiful storybooks, a doll house, a holiday dress and toys. Then to our surprise, on December 24, she said she really wanted a bike more than anything else.
Now we didn’t know what to do. It was just too late. We were busy with Christmas dinner and packing children’s presents, parents’ presents, a brother’s present and friends’ presents till mid-night. So there was no time to take to buy “right bike” for our little girl. Thinking we were parents who would make their child unhappy, we felt sorry and sad.
Suddenly my husband had an idea. “What about making a little bike with clay(黏土) and writing a note that she can trade in the model bike for a real one ” So he spent the next five hours carefully working with clay to make a small bike.
On Christmas morning, we were so excited for Tracy to open the little box with the beautiful red and white clay bike and the note. She opened the box and read the note loudly. She looked at me and asked, “So, does this mean I can trade in this bike for a real one ” Smiling, I said, “Yes!” Tracy had tears in her eyes when she replied, “I would never trade in this beautiful bike Daddy made me. As the saying goes, “A smile is the best medicine.” Nothing can heal a sick heart better than a warm smile. When you smile, your brain releases(释放)some special chemicals(化学物质). Together, they work to make you feel calm and relaxed. Smiling more often can even make your immune system(免疫系统)stronger. The importance of smiling can never be too greatly stressed(强调).
World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday of October every year. This year, it falls on October 7. The holiday was set up by American artist Harvey Ball. Ball created his famous yellow smiley face symbol in 1963. People loved it. However, more and more businesses began to use it for different purposes, which brought the symbol new meanings. Ball became worried that the symbol was losing its original meaning. To remind people to spread the “real” smile, he came up with the idea for World Smile Day. After that, the day gets more and more popular around the world.
The theme of the day is, “Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile.” This can be as simple as smiling at everyone you meet. You can also cook a dish for your parents or give a small gift to your friend. It would be even better if you could do some volunteer work, such as cleaning up the environment and helping the elderly. Let’s spread laughter and hope on this World Smile Day!

Research suggests that the seat you choose in the classroom says a lot about you and your personality(个性). Where do you usually decide to sit Have you ever really thought about the reasons for your decision
People often think that students who sit at the back are lazy. But is this really true Well, some researchers say it is not. In fact, shy students often choose the back row because it is far away from the teacher and they don’t want to answer questions. At the back, students probably won’t speak much, but in big classrooms, it can be hard to see the bcard and hear what the teacher is saying. 36 For students with poor eyesight or hearing, a seat at the back of the classroom is not a good choice.
37 However, they like watching and listening rather than joining in. These students are usually also very good at taking notes. 38 On the sides of the classroom you will generally find modest and thoughtful people. These people usually get good grades in school and are interested in learning.
Do you sit in the middle of the classroom Then the statistics(统计数据)say you probably like your teacher. 39 Caring, outgoing, and cheerful people usually sit in the middle. They are normally serious about learning and feel disappointed with low grades on tests and exams.
You probably sit right at the front of the class if you’re searching for knowledge. Students who sit here usually want to discuss things with the teacher and are often very interested in the subject. 40 The only problem with sitting here is that it can be difficult to see and hear what other students do and say in class. So, if you really want to hear what everyone says in class, choose a different place to sit.
A.You probably also have a good relationship with your classmates. B.They can also easily join in the discussion. C.Next time you miss a class, borrow notes from someone who sits here. D.This could be the reason why students who sit here often get lower grades on tests and exams. E.Students who sit at the side of the classroom are normally interested in class. F.They want to be in the best place to see and hear everything the teacher does and says.

【答案】The first time to learn to swim
As we all know, everyone has his unforgettable memories. I still remember the first time to learn to swim.
Last summer vacation, my father took me to the swimming pool in our neighborhood and taught me to swim. It was the first for me to swim. At first, I could not swim at all. My father was very patient. He encouraged me and taught me how to swim. He taught me how to breathe in the water first. Then, He threw me into the deepest part of the swimming pool. I was so frightened that I couldn’t move. But I never gave up. I felt safe with my dad around. Three hours later, with the help of my father, I could swim by myself. Although I couldn't swim very well, I was very happy.
I will never forget this experience, because I not only learned how to swim, but also learned to be brave!
