I was also heavily bullied before this day by most of my classmates. They would insult kick, and push me down the stairs. Teachers did nothing as the other kids were “paying customers” but I was not. I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress.
Then, this day came. These two kids were infamous (臭名昭著) for bullying anything that moved. Younger kids, mostly, as they were cowards. They had never bothered me before that day but had beaten several of my friends and classmates. But one day, as they started bothering my friends and me, I told them to go away. Their eyes lit up as they approached to beat me, and then they made a foolish mistake: they insulted my mother.
I just jumped on them, and it wasn’t pretty though. At some point, I got my ribs bruised by knee kicks by one of them while the other held me. I couldn’t breathe. However, they ended up worse. One had a broken nose and a black eye and was all scratched up with deep scratches. The other had three broken finger. I also trapped his head on my arm and punched him in the head hard that I had bruises on my hands, but he had a big black bruise on the side of his head for a week. I also remember kicking one in the stomach when they were on the floor until two teachers arrived and held me.
Because they had started it, I got no punishment or detention. Teachers were mostly shocked. I think the two boys were also quite embarrassed that a 10-year-old girl had won so they didn’t want to bring too much attention to the fact. But it was too late, dozens of students had seen it (none of which had been willing to defend a younger student from two bullies). The word got around the school. From that moment, these two did not bother a single soul and kept a very low profile, and they would walk away the moment they saw me.
The best part was that because those two had beaten most of my bullies, my bullies were scared of me, and I was never picked on again. It also taught me that bullying is wrong, but defending yourself is good. I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit
of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys.

When you see someone take that first sip of freshly made milk tea, their faces look like pure joy. Across the world, customers flock to their favorite spots to meet with friends and savor sips of these tasty drinks.
In the early 2000s, though, milk tea was just coming on the scene. The few brands that earned a foothold in the industry were concerned: Would milk tea just be another fad (一时风尚) food And with so much new excitement for this product, would, people be able to distinguish milk tea companies These were the questions that Serenitea, a Manila-based milk-tea company, faced in 2014. While successfully opening 60 stores, they found themselves in a strategic fog.
Unsure of what consumers truly felt towards the drink, they offered as many flavors as possible. They also had no clear definition of how they were distinct — their brand promise, product line, and product packaging all seemed nearly identical to their competitors. How could they define themselves, in a way that would deeply resonate
Like Airbnb, Serenitea partnered with an agency, CIA Bootleg Manila, which specializes in drilling down to the deep consumer “why”. The agency conducted a series of psychological-based market research. Specifically, they probed the consumer’s deeper, emotional connections to milk tea, including their earliest childhood memories of milk and tea. Their research revealed that milk tea triggered three consistent psychological responses.
People connected to milk through the concept of nurturing; they fondly remembered their childhood and being cared for by their mothers. Next, consumers connected tea to its healing properties; respondents would recall receiving tea when they had indigestion problems or seeing their parents drinking herbal tea for health reasons. Lastly, they associated milk tea itself with teenage fun: a guilty pleasure of their youth. They had uncovered the three psychological cornerstones of the milk tea experience: nurturing, healing, and teenage fun. This set of insights was crucial. By including them into the core of their brand strategy, they charted an entirely new path.
28.What do the underlined words “earned a foothold” mean in Paragraph 2
A.Made an adjustment. B.Won a position.
C.Lost the initiative. D.Achieved a breakthrough.
29.What was Serenitea’s main concern in 2014
A.Being confused with other brands. B.The rapid growth of milk tea brands.
C.The possibility of milk tea catching on. D.Falling behind the changing consumer tastes.
30.What did CIA Bootleg Manila specialize in
A.Product packaging design. B.Market expansion strategies.
C.Analysis of customer psychology. D.Flavor innovation and development.
31.What was among the findings of the research
A.Milk tea was popular among teenagers.
B.Customers found all milk tea identical.
C.Customers associated milk tea with health.
D.Milk tea brands ignored consumers’ feelings.

Shadows are often associated with darkness and uncertainty. Now, researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) are giving shadows a positive spin by demonstrating a way to harness this common but often overlooked optical (光学的) effect to generate electricity.
The team created a device called a shadow-effect energy generator (SEG), which makes use of the contrast in illumination (照明) between lit and shadowed areas to generate electricity. It’s made up of a series of thin strips of gold film on a silicon layer, which is then placed on a flexible plastic base.
“In conventional optoelectronics (光电子学) where a steady source of light is used to power devices, shadows are undesirable, since they degrade the performance of devices. In this work, we took advantage of the illumination contrast caused by shadows as an indirect source of power. The contrast in illumination causes a voltage (电压) difference between the shadow and illuminated sections, resulting in an electric current. This novel concept of harvesting energy in the presence of shadows is unprecedented.” explained research team leader Professor Tan Swee Ching.
Mobile electronic devices such as smart phones, smart glasses and e-watches require efficient and continuous power supply. As these devices are worn both indoors and outdoors, wearable power sources that could harness surrounding light can potentially improve the function of these devices. While commercially available solar cells can perform this role in an outdoor environment, their energy harvesting efficiency
drops significantly under indoor conditions where shadows are persistent. This new approach to maximizing the efficiency of energy harvesting is both exciting and timely.
“When the whole SEG is under illumination or in shadow, the amount of electricity generated is very low or none at all. When a part of the SEG is illuminated, a significant electrical output is detected. We also found that the best surface area for electricity generation is when half of the SEG is illuminated and the other half in shadow, as this gives enough area for charge generation and collection respectively.” said co- team leader Professor Andrew Wee.
The NUS researchers are also looking at developing wearable SEGs attached to clothing to harvest energy during normal daily activities. Another promising area of research is the development of low- cost SEG for efficient harvesting of energy from indoor lighting.
32.Why are shadows considered undesirable in traditional optoelectronics
A.They serve no useful purpose. B.They weaken device performance.
C.They are rare in outdoor conditions. D.They are difficult to control or predict.
33.What do we know about the SEG
A.It’s specially designed to work in open areas.
B.It will replace existing solar cells once and for all.
C.It’s most effective when fully positioned in light or in shadow.
D.It requires a balance of light and shadow to maximize electricity generation.
34.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.The SEG is unlikely to work efficiently in dark places.
B.The researchers are looking to reduce the cost of the SEG.
C.The development of SEG is limited by its high production cost.
D.The researchers are developing wearable SEGs attached to smart phones.
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.An innovative use of shadows to generate electricity.
B.The problems with shadows in conventional optoelectronics.
C.The challenges of adapting technology for wearable devices.
D.A need for efficient power supply in mobile electronic devices.

Homemade Milk Tea: Crafting Your Own Perfect Blend
Making your own milk tea at home can be a rewarding experience. It’s all about personal preference, and a little creativity goes a long way. Whether you’re a traditionalist or like to experiment with flavors, the process is a positive step in discovering your taste preferences. 36 Now, let’s start brewing your ideal cup of milk tea.
Begin with a list of ingredients that appeal to you. 37 Are you a fan of classic black tea or do you prefer green tea as the base How about the milk: whole, skim, or a non-dairy alternative And what about the sweetener: honey, sugar, or agave syrup Choose the elements that make you excited to brew your own concoction.
Next, consider the “Flavor Additions” you’d like to incorporate. 38 This is where you can get creative. Perhaps you want to add a hint of vanilla, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or even a touch of lavender. It might be the time when you tried a unique blend that became your signature, or when you experimented with a new flavor that turned out to be a delightful surprise.
You could ask for input from friends or family members to expand your flavor profile. 39 They might have suggestions for ingredients you haven’t considered, or they might enjoy trying your creations. This collaborative process can lead to new discoveries and shared enjoyment. In fact, don’t wait until you’ve perfected your recipe to share it—this is a great way to connect with others and enjoy the process.
It’s a common belief that most of us find joy in customizing our drinks rather than sticking to the standard options. The thing is, it’s true. 40 We’re all unique, and personalizing your milk tea is a fun way to express that individuality. Remember, there’s no wrong way to make your own milk tea; it’s all about finding what tastes best to you.
A.A little experimentation with flavors can be fun.
B.Now list all the ingredients you think will taste great together.
C.They might even like to suggest new flavor combinations.
D.It’s just as important to enjoy the process of creation.
E.It doesn’t mean you can’t adjust the recipe later on.
F.Whatever the combination, no matter how unusual it might seem, give it a try.
G.Whatever the outcome, remember that your first try is just a starting point.

On Friday evening in December, two weeks before Christmas, I lost my job. I hadn’t seen it. I was excited for the weekend, when my daughter, Kristil, then 12, and I planned to get our Christmas tree. Then I listened to my voicemail: “We’re sorry but your work assignment has ended as of today.” My heart sank.
I wasn’t just a single parent; I was the only parent. My paycheck was survival.
The next day as we searched for our tree, I struggled to be cheerful as I eyed each price tag.
“Is everything OK ” Kristil asked. “You seem worried.”
“I got some bad news yesterday,” I told her. “I lost my job.”
“Oh no,” Kristil said. “Well, I have $100 from Grandma I can give you.”
“Absolutely not.” I told her.
In the following days, I furiously applied for jobs as my bank account grew smaller. I felt as if the world was closing in on me. One afternoon, I dropped Kristil in a wealthy gated community for a birthday party. I watched as she went in, surrounded by all the nice things we couldn’t afford. I drove home defeated.
Back at home, I glanced out the window. It had been snowing on and off all morning. I noticed a thin woman with short white hair struggling to open her car door against the wind. As she got out, I realized it was my old professor, Esther Heffernan. I hadn’t seen her since we met for lunch three months ago.
I rushed to the front of my building. “What are you doing out in this weather ”I asked as we hugged. “Well, I tried to call last week but couldn’t get through. Then I called your job and they said you weren’t working there anymore, so I thought I would come by.” Esther said, “I have gifts for you and Kristl.”
I made her a cup of tea, and we talked. Just being in Esther’s presence gave me hope that things would be all right. As she got up to leave, she handed me a Christmas card. “This is for you.” I walked her to her car and waved as she pulled away.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按照如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When I opened her card, hundred- dollar bills fell onto the table.

第一节 参考范文
66.Dear Chris,
I’m delighted to share with you the wonders of China’s high-speed rail (HSR) system. Over the past decade, China’s HSR has developed rapidly, boasting the largest network in the world and continuously breaking speed records. The cradle of China’s HSR is the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, which started operations in 2008. Since then, the HSR has expanded to connect major cities, covering a network of over 35,000 kilometers.
One of the defining features of China’s HSR is its high operational speed, which can reach up to 350 kilometers per hour, making it one of the fastest in the world. Additionally, the trains are known for their comfort, punctuality, and safety. The development of HSR has revolutionized travel in China, reducing travel times significantly and providing a reliable alternative to air travel for medium to long distances.
In daily life, HSR has brought cities closer together, fostering economic development and cultural exchange. It has become an integral part of people’s lives, facilitating business trips, tourism, and family visits. Moreover, the HSR has had a profound impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions compared to other modes of transportation.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文
67.Para 1:When I opened her card, hundred-dollar bills fell onto the table. My eyes widened in surprise as I counted them. There were five crisp notes, totalling five hundred dollars. My heart swelled with gratitude towards Esther. In the card, she had written, “You and Kristil deserve a special Christmas. Use this to make some memories. Remember, tough times don’t last, but tough people do. You’re one of them.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the depth of her kindness and the belief she had in me. This unexpected gift was not just financial aid; it was a vote of confidence and a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there are people who care.
Para 2: On Christmas Eve, I decided to pass on the goodwill. I took Kristil to the local toy store and explained to her how Esther’s generosity had touched our lives. Together, we carefully selected toys for children at the local orphanage, ensuring that each gift was wrapped beautifully with love. We also picked up a few extra groceries and warm clothing to donate. As we left the store, Kristil’s eyes sparkled with joy, and I knew that in giving, she had found her own sense of purpose and happiness. Later, when we visited the orphanage to deliver the gifts, the children’s smiles and excitement were contagious. It was a magical moment, one that I will always cherish. That Christmas Eve, I learned that the true spirit of giving lies not in receiving but in being able to make a difference in someone else’s life. And with Esther’s help, we had done just that.

M: Okay, before you're dismissed, does anyone have a question Okay, Stephanie.
W: Thank you, Mr. Green. You mentioned the Fibonacci series just now. I don't quite understand. Could you explain What does it mean
M: Fibonacci was a European mathematician in the Middle Ages. The Fibonacci series is a series of numbers in which each number is equal to the two numbers before it added together. A simple example goes, like 112358 and so on.
W: Why is it important
M: Well, it's important, because it's common in geometry. And it's common in nature. For example, in plants. Actually, we see these numbers everywhere
W: Could you give us some specific examples
M: Well, we don't have time today. But I can explain more about it in the next lesson on Wednesday.
Text 8
W: There are used to be more than 20,000 tigers in India. But today there are fewer than 2000 left. Why is this Simon
M: Well, we have managed to deal with the hunters. But a much greater problem is that beauty products companies are making a special product in large quantities.
W: Does this product come from tigers
M: No, but the rocks the product is made from are found in the Tigers last natural habitat. This habitat is being destroyed.
W: I see, so how serious is the problem.
M: I predict that within 10 years, the Indian Tiger will disappear forever.
W: But surely the tigers could be moved to a reserve. Aren't they protected by environmental laws
M: Yes, they certainly are. But large areas in forest are destroyed to make way for the mining operations.
W: So what do you think can be done to save the Tigers
M: I’m not sure. But at least mining operations need to be restricted before it's too late.
Text 9
W: Welcome back. Now, we continue our talk with Donald Keith. So, Donald, in your new book, you said you started doing farm work at seven, helping at a grocery at 10 and driving a truck at 14. Children aren't allowed to do such things any more. Do you think that's a mistake
M: Well, I learned in a hurry. Because my family needed my help. I was daddy's only son at that time. Robert came 15 years after I did . It was during the depression years when any income was helpful .Today, things are different.
W: Do you think though that we underestimate our children now We seem to treat them as children for a very long time.
M: I think so. Sharing some housework should be good for the healthy growth of our children.
W: Your father emerges as a powerful human being throughout your book. Would you like to talk more about him
M: Daddy was my hero in many ways, and deservedly so. He was a great farmer, a successful businessman, as well as an excellent baseball coach. Whatever my daddy did, was what I wanted to do some day.
Text 10
W: Hi everyone! This is Alice ,I can't believe that i'm actually here in France. There are six students in my class, we're staying in the home of a French couple in the Jura mountains. Mr. and Mrs. Garcia are artists. And they teach an art class just for us every morning. I'm learning some wonderful painting techniques. Later in the day, we visit local villages and paint what we see. The house we are staying in is so lovely. Mrs. Garcia's family built it in the 18th century. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like something from a film. It's very large, and all the rooms have glass doors. I spend a lot of time in the garden in front of the house. It has become my favorite place, because it's so quiet. Sometimes I just sit there for hours till the sun sets. I've never had an experience like this.
