I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn’t heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue(队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. “We made it,” he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message:“Out of order. Sorry.”

I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised.

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply:“Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith(银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny;and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half-dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges.
Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy—his name was Bernard—had interested her very much.
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don’t see what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”
“So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried,“I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish (完成).”
The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us Well, we can make popcorn(爆米花), and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”

Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first P.E. class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle(哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. “It’s just the beginning,” she thought. “I’ll come in last for sure.”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile.” Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved(拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

I was invited to a cookout on an old friend’s farm in western Washington. I parked my car outside the farm and walked past a milking house which had apparently not been used in many years. A noise at a window caught my attention, so I entered it. It was a hummingbird(蜂鸟), desperately trying to escape. She was covered in spider-webs(蛛网) and was barely able to move her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up.
With the bird in my cupped hand, I looked around to see how she had gotten in. The broken window glass was the likely answer. I stuffed a piece of cloth into the hole and took her outside, closing the door securely behind me.
When I opened my hand, the bird did not fly away; she sat looking at me with her bright eyes. I removed the sticky spider-webs that covered her head and wings. Still, she made no attempt to fly. Perhaps she had been struggling against the window too long and was too tired Or too thirsty
As I carried her up the blackberry-lined path toward my car where I kept a water bottle, she began to move. I stopped, and she soon took wing but did not immediately fly away. Hovering(悬停), she approached within six inches of my face. For a very long moment, this tiny creature looked into my eyes, turning her head from side to side. Then she flew quickly out of sight.
During the cookout, I told my hosts about the hummingbird incident. They promised to fix the window. As I was departing, my friends walked me to my car. I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew to the center of our group and began hovering. She turned from person to person until she came to me. She again looked directly into my eyes, then let out a squeaking call and was gone. For a moment, all were speechless. Then someone said, “She must have come to say good-bye.”

George had his eye on a scoring record. He took a deep breath as he stood in the doorway, looking in at the basketball court. The gym was old and small, but it held a long history. Maybe today I’ll make history, George thought.
His basketball league was celebrating. Today’s championship game marked its 50th anniversary(周年) since the league’s first championship.
George looked over the brochure for the anniversary. It listed the winners of each championship game and the top scorers. He stopped suddenly when he read the name of the top scorer from a game 30 years ago. He quickly went through the rest of the list. “Look!” he said to his teammate David, showing him the brochure. “You see who has the all-time record My dad! He never told me that.”
“24 points,” David said. “That’s awesome!”
George’s best record was 19 points. He was the Badgers’ top scorer. “It seems that my dad never showed off something like that,” George said.
When his parents arrived, George brought the brochure over to them. His dad laughed. “I didn’t miss a shot in that game. But look at the score. I would have traded every shot for a win,” he said with regret. George hadn’t noticed that his dad’s team had lost the game just by one point. “That was a great group of teammates,” his dad added. “You have great teammates in the Badgers, too.”
As George warmed up, he was still digesting his father’s words. “This will be a struggle every second,” the coach emphasized before they got on court to play. “I want to see tough defense, sharp passing, and, above all, smart play as a team.”
George was confident he could lead the Badgers to victory, just as he did in their previous games against the Lions. And he played really hard. As the game neared its end, George had already scored 23 points. Another basket would break his father’s scoring record.

Kevin and I were friends in the elementary school. As honor students, both of us sat in the front of the class, but on opposite sides. He was the smartest boy I’d ever known, who almost always got straight A’s in study. Actually, I was second only to him. Part of me wanted to hate him, but I couldn’t. After all, we were close companions. Instead, I envied him and longed with all my heart to be just like him.
Mrs. Becker, our teacher, was a patient, kind old lady. She would flash a pleasant smile, when the class got into an argument, and patiently guide us toward the correct answer. Last week, Mrs. Becker, put a big circle on the blackboard and said it was a pizza pie. “David,” she said to me, “if I were to divide the pizza, would you like one-third or one-tenth ” Ten is the bigger number, so that’s what I picked. At that moment, Kevin started waving his hand in the air, shouting that he chose one-third. Mrs. Becker drew lines on the circle, showing that Kevin’s piece of the pie was bigger than mine. “David’s gonna get hungry,” Kevin joked. Then the whole class was laughing. My expression changed from a half smile, to a half frown, to a one hundred percent unhappy face.
With a mixture of bitterness and envy slipping into my heart, I began to argue with him on purpose during the rest of class. Thus, a heated argument unavoidably broke out when a controversial topic appeared. After hearing our separate statements patiently, Mrs. Becker brought us up to the front of the class and placed Kevin on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large, round object. I could clearly see that it was black. She asked Kevin what color the object was. “White,” he answered. I couldn’t believe he said the object was white, when it was obviously black!

When we were finally dismissed from the last class of the day, the students streamed out of the classrooms. It was another boring day after school. I dragged my feet home as I sighed. Yet another uneventful day, I thought. Little did I know that the day would take a turn for the worse.
The lift lobby(电梯大厅) of my flat was old and dirty. The walls, which were painted white, had been dirtied over many years. I reached my flat’s lobby, and pressed the lift button and went in. Just then, Mrs Lim, my elderly neighbour, hobbled(蹒跚) in. She looked ancient with tissue paper white hair, wearing a faded old-fashioned dress. I held the lift door open, flashing a friendly smile, and politely greeted her. I asked her how she felt that day and pressed the buttons. She thanked me for being so polite, and then we were silent for the rest of the ride.
The lift fell down increasingly fast. There were loud clanking sounds here and there while the lift grew slower and slower. My heart beat hard and fast as my hands turned cold and wet with sweat. Unfortunately, the lift came to an abrupt stop at the fifth floor. I pressed the buttons hard several times, but it was of no help. The lights on the buttons had gone out. It soon dawned on me that we were trapped. An icy fear crept up my spine. Mrs Lim was hysterical(歇斯底里的).
“We will never get out!” she cried with her face pale. It had become a colourless mask. I had no time to lose. I pressed the bell in the lift immediately. The sound was surely deafening, but what other choice did I have Mrs Lim burst into tears. I tried my very best to comfort her, telling her that everything would be all right and that we needed to find out how to get out safely. Mrs Lim began having trouble breathing, and I immediately helped her sit down and loosened her collar.

Last summer, Hilda worked as a volunteer with dolphin trainers at a sea life park. Her job was to make sure the tanks were free of any items so that the trainers could train the dolphins to fetch specific items. However, one day after cleaning, one of the dolphins, Maya, presented Hilda with a candy wrapper from the tank. When Katherine, the trainer, saw this, she blamed Hilda for her carelessness. Upset but not discouraged by this event, Hilda decided to do some spying on Maya.
The next morning, Hilda arrived at the park early. She put on her scuba gear(水下呼吸器) and jumped into the tank for her usual, underwater sweep. Finding nothing in the tank, she climbed out of the water just in time to see Katherine jumping in on the other side. After what happened yesterday, Hilda knew what she was doing. She watched as Katherine performed her underwater search, but Hilda wasn’t surprised when she surfaced empty-handed.
During the tank sweeps, Maya had been swimming playfully, but now the dolphin stopped suddenly and swam to the back part of the tank where the filter(过滤) box was located. She stuck her nose down behind the box and then swam away. What was Maya doing back there Hilda wondered. She jumped back into the water and swam over to take a look behind the box, and her question was answered. Hilda then swam across the tank following Maya’s path and emerged from the water to find Katherine removing her scuba gear. As Katherine turned around, her mouth dropped open. There was Maya at the edge of the tank with a comb(梳子) in her mouth waiting for her treat.
“Maya! Where did you get that ” demanded Katherine, taking the comb and throwing her a fish. “I know where she got it,” declared Hilda climbing out of the tank with a handful of items still wet from their watery, resting place. “What’s all this ” Katherine asked, obviously confused.

It was a cold, snowy evening. Tommy was running as fast as he could, focused on nothing but his destination—the shop on the street corner. Two weeks ago he saw figurines of Marvel superheroes on the shelves and felt he had to have one. He’s been walking the neighbor’s dog ever since then to earn money to realize his little dream. He was so excited and hardly noticing the world around him. Maybe that’s why he tripped over the legs of a homeless woman, who was sitting on the sidewalk, her back against the wall. He murmured(低语) “sorry” and moved on to his destination.
Once he entered the shop, he went straight to the shelves with figurines. Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and many more—all of his admired heroes. With his heart pounding like crazy he reached for Spiderman.
“You like these, true believer ”
Tommy turned around. An old man was standing behind him with a wide smile on his face. “Y-yes...Yes, they’re awesome!” answered Tommy. “They’re strong and fast and help other people a lot...” the boy looked at figurines in admiration. “I wish I could be a superhero too.”
“Then become one!” said the old man.
“How ” Tommy asked in surprise. “I don’t have any superpowers.”
“And why would you need them ” the old man smiled. Seeing the confusion on the boy’s face, he squatted(蹲下) and put his hands on Tommy’s arms. “Did you know, that lady shopkeeper over there has a disabled husband She’s been working hard and taking care of him for years. I’ve never heard a word of complaint from her. And this person...” he pointed at a redheaded man, who just entered the shop. “He’s a firefighter; he’s saved countless lives. He never gives up, no matter how dangerous the situation seems to be.”
The old man looked Tommy in the eyes and smiled. “You don’t need a superpower to be a hero for someone else. The path to a superhero starts not in the mind, not in the muscles, but in the heart.”

Brad Howard, a Texas father, has had enough of his son’s disruptive(扰乱性的) behavior in physics class. Despite multiple warnings and complaints from the teacher about his son’s excessive(过多的) talking, the situation didn’t improve.
So, Brad decided to take matters into his own hands and gave his son, Bradley, a final warning. Brad made a bold promise to his son, saying, “Hey, if we get another call, I’m going to show up in school and sit beside you in class.”
The 17-year-old Bradley probably thought his dad was just bluffing(唬人) and continued his chatty(爱闲聊的) ways. But when Brad received another email from the teacher, he knew he had to follow through with his threat.
On the morning of the important day, Brad’s wife woke him up and said, “Brad, it’s time for you to go to school.” It struck him what he had said. He just couldn’t but a bit regret, “Oh, no, what have I done ”
Despite his unwillingness, Brad was determined to keep his word and headed to his son’s high school.
The sight of Brad sitting next to Bradley in class was a source of amusement for Bradley’s friends, who found the situation ridiculous. Bradley, on the other hand, was less than thrilled.
He couldn’t believe that his dad had actually gone through with his threat. The embarrassment of having his own father sitting beside him in class was enough to make him regret his behavior. As the class started, Bradley could feel all eyes on him and his dad. He could sense the judgment and the whispers from his classmates.
“Hey, Bradley, it looks like your dad is really serious about this,” one of his friends whispered across the hallway, trying to hold back a laugh.
“Yeah, this is so embarrassing,” Bradley whispered, his cheeks turning a deep shade of red.

I am an outdoor lover and I’ve made it a routine to explore different regions annually with a friend during our vacation. This year, in addition to beauty of nature, I’ve experienced something more.
It was late afternoon. A few hours before sunset, Darcy and I decided to hike to Acomat Falls, hidden in the rainforest.
Expecting to spend no more than an hour at the falls, we wore T-shirts and swimsuits and hadn’t told anyone where we were going. After crossing the wide river at a shallow spot and walking upstream about 100 yards, we reached the falls at around 4 pm. We dived into the green pool and floated on our backs, amazed at the canyon(峡谷) walls.
By 4:30, Darcy reminded me that we needed to head back to the car before dark, but I was waist-deep in the river trying to photograph the falls, the hanging vines(葡萄藤), and the dreaminess of the place. Darcy had to wait on a stone. I finally took a good photo—and then she screamed.
With a crack like thunder, a violent wall of water rushed over the falls, turning the dreamy swimming pool into a churning(剧烈翻滚的) monster. A flash flood! I jumped out of the river seconds before the flood crashed over the spot where I’d just been standing. Darcy climbed barefoot off toward higher ground. Darcy and I climbed up the canyon on all fours, grabbing vines to pull ourselves up. I looked over my shoulder and saw that the water had risen 20 feet in less than a minute.
Darcy led us through the dense bush, prickly trees, and ankle-deep mud. After we’d climbed 200 feet, we stopped to catch our breath. Now we had a different problem: The road was on the other side of the swollen river. We were stuck in the forested mountain.
We had no rain jackets and were exhausted from the climb. Darcy asked if I had my phone. It was soaking wet, but still blinked on. No service. We decided to move toward higher ground to get a better signal. It was almost dark. For a moment, I got through, and I heard the faint voice of Grace, our landlady. She said she’d call for help. Then the phone went silent—no signal again.

Sorry.”
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised.
答案
One possible version:
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. Gunter’s eyes widened as I explained the futile attempt at the cash machine. Meanwhile, when I glanced at the gradually thinning queue in the distance, a sense of anxiety dominated my heart. It was then that an ambitious idea that I’d offer to pay the fare when I returned four days later occurred to me. Hearing my intention and realizing the anxious tone in my voice, Gunter stared at me for one moment. Eventually, his serious face softened with empathy, a silent acknowledgment of my proposal.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. When he recognized my voice, his hearty laugh echoed through the phone. After exchanging warm greetings, we decided to meet at where he dropped me off last time. While seeing each other only for a second time, we instantly embraced like long-lost friends on the spot. Actually, it was out of his expectation, for he wasn’t sure if I would show up. Nevertheless, the faith in humanity convinced him of the power of trust.

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. The social studies teacher burst into the classroom to announce the news, his face beaming with excitement. “Congratulations!” he exclaimed, waving a letter proudly. Shocked and excited, I couldn’t believe my ears. The hours spent honing my essay, the countless revisions, and the newfound joy in writing had paid off. I glanced around the classroom, where my classmates erupted into applause. So excited were they that my classmates decided to hold an award presentation on the spot in honor of the triumph and my perseverance.
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. A mix of gratitude and curiosity swirled within me. “Thank you, sir,” I said, my voice filled with genuine appreciation, for winning the contest was absolutely unexpected. Hearing my words, the teacher smiled warmly, saying that anyone shouldn’t underestimate their ability. Patting me on the shoulder, he continued to encourage me to keep writing and exploring, for the contest was just the beginning. Inspired by his words, I left his office with a renewed sense of purpose, eager to embark on my next literary adventure.

We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. “Why do you give up the run, David ” I whispered to him. “I will be a loser and others will laugh at me,” he murmured, with his face flushing. I hugged him tightly, saying, “You are a determined boy and I believe you can face the challenge bravely. More importantly, it is participation rather than the result that matters to you.” Inspired by what I said, David looked up and said firmly, “I will run.” Rising and turning around, he headed for the starting line.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. Hearing the gun blasting, they rushed out like arrows. However, David fell behind soon despite great efforts. Every time he was about to quit, I shouted crazily, “Come on, David!” He kept running, sweaty and exhausted. Finally, when David struggled to cross the finishing line, a storm of cheers and applause erupted from the people present. Dragging his heavy legs, David approached me. He embraced me and said, “Thank you!” I was overwhelmed with joy for his wonderful performance.

As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. When seeing Jeff’s hand burnt, he went and fetched the first-aid kit and treated it instantly. “Why did you cook by yourselves Don’t you know it’s dangerous ” shouted the father with anger. “Today is Mother’s Day. We want to prepare breakfast and give Mother a big surprise.” Hearing this, the father smiled and whispered, “How I am proud of you! Let’s do it together!” It was not long before a perfect breakfast was well done, giving off a nice smell.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. At the sight of the meal, the mother felt a little confused, asking “Where did you get this breakfast ” “We have done it with Father. It’s a surprise for you on Mother’s Day,” responded Jeff, his face blooming like a flower. “This is the best gift I have ever received! Thank you!” said the mother excitedly with tears sparkling in her eyes. She embraced the twins tightly. At that time, the twins really knew home was a place where members should understand each other and enjoy love.

When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building.
答案
One possible version:
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. Looking around, she realized what her coach meant. Instead of being left in the dust, she found herself among the best. Full of amazement, Eva gasped, unable to contain excitement. Her mouth curved into a smile, her face lighting up with a sense of confidence. The mind trick had worked wonders, so the word “mile” was no longer a monster for her. Eva felt energetic, refreshed and powerful, believing she could overcome any obstacle in the life, including her poor sense of direction.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She stopped racking her brains for which direction to go. Instead, she created a detailed map of the six-story building, highlighting key landmarks with different colors. Breaking down the routes into smaller sections, Eva explored each day, one at a time. Days turned into weeks, and now navigating the huge building seemed like a piece of cake. This episode served as a reminder that with great determination and a clever mind trick, one can achieve anything and reach far.

注意:续写词数应为 150 左右。
A few weeks later, I went to the farm again.
I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared.
答案
One possible version:
A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. As my car neared it, my thoughts drifted back to the moment when I rescued the hummingbird from spider-webs. I rushed back to the deserted house. It was a great comfort that the original hole in the window was nowhere to be found. Leaving the house, I couldn’t help wondering how she was getting on now. Had she managed to find her way back home, or was she still out there somewhere struggling to survive
I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. A flash of movement caught my attention. I turned around to see the same hummingbird hovering in the air. It seemed that the bird was waiting for me, and her beady eyes were on mine as if trying to convey some deep and unspoken gratitude. I felt a surge of relief and awe at the sight of this sound and grateful creature, and I knew that I would always cherish the memories we shared as I climbed into my car and drove away.

However, his team was now one point behind the Lions.
With no defenders around, David turned and shot at the basket.
答案
One possible version:
However, his team was now one point behind the Lions. “Ten...nine...eight...” The clock ticked mercilessly. Although his throat was dry and his muscles screamed, George couldn’t afford to stop. Breaking his father’s record was within reach, just two points away. At this moment, he felt all eyes on him from his teammates. With the ball in hand and two Lions’ players guarding against him, George hesitated, resisting the urge to shoot. Taking a deep breath, he scanned the court and found an opportunity. In a split second, George made his decision and passed the ball to David.
With no defenders around, David turned and shot at the basket. As the ball flew through the air, time seemed to freeze. The audience was in silence. George watched, his heart pounding in his chest. The gym rocked with thunderous applause when the ball went through the net. George rushed to David and held him in his arms. After celebrating with his team, George ran to hug his parents. “You still have the record,” he told his dad. Dad smiled. “You have something more important. A championship. And great teammates. Congratulations on your history!”

Another argument started between us, but this time about the color of the object.
Then, Mrs. Becker asked us what the color of the object was after we changed places.
答案
One possible version:
Another argument started between us, but this time about the color of the object. The tension in the classroom was evident as we stood on opposite sides of the teacher’s desk, both convinced of our own perception. I even looked at him defiantly, sneering. In contrast, Kevin seemed unaffected by my aggressive expression, his confidence was anything but shaken. The class watched us with interest as we argued, occasionally bursting into laughter. Mrs. Becker quieted the unrest, then telling me to go where Kevin was standing and Kevin to stand in my previous place.
Then, Mrs. Becker asked us what the color of the object was after we changed places. Mrs. Becker’s patient gaze bored into us, waiting for our response. Not until then did both of us realize that it was an object with two differently colored sides. From Kevin’s viewpoint, it was white while from mine it was black. Reflecting on the argument, I regretted deeply being mean. Making sincere apologies to each other, we came to terms. It dawned on me that the essence of friendship is a profound connection on the basis of mutual understanding.

答案
One possible version:
Several minutes passed, but no help came. The air inside the lift grew stale, and panic started to set in. Mrs Lim’s condition was worsening, and I felt a sense of helplessness creeping over me. I tried to stay calm and think of a way out, but the situation seemed dire. The silence was deafening, broken only by Mrs Lim’s labored breathing and occasional sobs. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly as we waited for a miracle.
Bang, my hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters on the other side of the lift door. Relief flooded through me as I realized help had finally arrived. The sound of tools clanging against the door signaled their efforts to rescue us. Moments later, the door was pried open, and fresh air rushed in. We were safe. Mrs Lim was quickly attended to by the paramedics, and I was filled with gratitude for their swift response. As we were escorted out of the lift, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of appreciation for the fragility of life and the importance of helping others in times of need.

“This is Maya’s secret,” Hilda said with a big smile.
Now Katherine realized what had been going on.
答案
One possible version:
“This is Maya’s secret,” Hilda said with a big smile. Seeing Katherine’s confused expression, Hilda gestured for Katherine to put on the scuba gear and dive into the tank with her to explore the secret. They two sneaked in, secretly placing that comb and other items Hilda just found in different places, and then hid themselves in an inconspicuous location. After what seemed like a century, there came the dolphin, Maya. Swimming as playfully as before, she slowly approached the comb and pushed it to the back of the filter box with ease. Of course, the rest of the items suffered the same fate.
Now Katherine realized what had been going on. It wasn’t Hilda’s fault before. Apparently, it was their practice that caused Maya to act like that—an item fetched, a treat would be rewarded. “Maya is really clever,” she murmured with a smile, climbing out of the tank together with Hilda and throwing another fish into the water. Within seconds, Maya leapt out of the water again, dancing like a child jumping with joy after a reward. “Glad to meet you, Miss Spy!” Katherine said jokingly. Then the two of them burst out laughing, enjoying the wonderful atmosphere created by the lovely creature.

Tommy turned around. An old man was standing behind him with a wide smile on his face. “
