COPENHAGEN: The largest and most important UN climate change conference in history opened Monday, with delegates(代表) from 192 nations warned that this could be the best, last chance for a deal to protect the world from calamitous(灾难的) global warming.
The biggest climate talks in history are aimed at working out a new deal to curb global warming, replacing the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
"I am very optimistic for Copenhagen," United Nations leader Ban Ki-moon(潘基文)said in an interview in the Danish daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende. "We will produce an agreement all UN member states will sign, which is historic," Ban said.
"We have the right political spirit," Ban added. "All heads of state and government have the same goal - to prevent global warming."
So far 105 world leaders have accepted the invitation, including Obama(奥巴马), Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh(曼莫汉.辛格).
