  形容词和副词的最高级
  【观察】
  1.Tom is the smartest of all.汤姆是所有人中最聪明的。

  【探究】
  形容词和副词的最高级后面要有一个进行比较的范围,通常用介词 of 或 in 构成的短语来表示;当比较的对象是“any other+名词单数”时,可以表示 最高级 的含义。
  有些形容词和副词的最高级是不规则变化。
  good/well— better — best 
  bad/badly/ill— worse — worst 
  many/much— more — most 
  little— less — least 
  far— farther/further — farthest/furthest 
  old— older/elder — oldest/eldest 
语法巧记口诀:
 最高级用法
最高级表最高,后有范围离不了;
in和of两短语,区别使用分清晰;
不规则变化须牢记,两好三坏两个多,
很少很远和很老,不同用法要记牢。     
 最高级变化规则
最高级,要变化,一般词尾加-est;
词尾若有哑音e,直接加-st就可以;
重读闭音节,单辅音字母要双写;
辅音字母若加-y,记得把y变为i。

第一课时(1a-2d)
Study of the Text                         
What: Firstly, different aspects of movie theaters are given for students to consider and rank so as to pave the way for comparing movie theaters and make the best choice. Then students will listen and match the statements to further learn how to make choices. Lastly, comparisons between different clothes stores and radio stations are given to promote students' ability to judge and choose.
Why: 1a is to list different aspects that should be considered when making choices and lead students to have a basic knowledge about how to make a choice. 1b & 1c are to match characters of different movie theaters. 2a & 2b are to show more different choices in our daily life and make more comparisons as examples for learning. 2c & 2d are to lead students to practice the use of comparison and to improve their level of communicating.
How: Students will be led to learn about all aspects of movie theaters or other places by listening and matching. They will learn more about comparisons and characters of different places by listening. Students can consolidate what they learned by practicing a conversation in pairs.
Teaching Objectives                         
1.To learn to discuss preferences using superlatives.
2.To learn the usage of superlatives of adjectives in regular forms and irregular forms.

1.To learn to discuss preferences using superlatives. Step 1 Lead-in 1.Free talk: Make up a conversation about the movie theater you prefer. 2.List some characters of a movie theater. Step 2 Work on 1a Discussion: How do you choose which movie theater to go to Write the things in the box under “Important” or “Not Important”. Step 3 Listening(1b) 1.Read and understand the sentences in the chart. 2.Listen to the recording first and write down the corresponding movie theaters. 3.Check the answers. Step 4 Pair-work(1c) 1.Read the conversation with a partner. 2.Use the information in the chart of 1b. Work in pairs to finish more conversations. 3.Invite one or two pairs to act them out. Observe whether students can discuss from different aspects. Observe students' different choices and ask for the reasons at random. Praise students for their answers and encourage them to summarize the aspects mentioned in the listening material. Observe whether students can read and imitate correctly, and grasp the students' learning of key language expressions.
Purpose To activate existing knowledge background by free talk. To consolidate the listening skills and improve them.
2.To learn the usage of superlatives of adjectives in regular forms and irregular forms. Step 5 Listening Work on 2a: 1.Read the questions in 2a and remember the included information. 2.Listen to the recording and circle the boy's answers. 3.Listen again to check the answers. Work on 2b: 1.Read the sentences. Explain some main sentences for students. 2.Listen again to write the correct clothes store or radio station next to each statement. 3.Check the answers. Step 6 Role-play Work on 2c: 1.Student A plays the reporter and B plays the boy. 2.Accumulate main expressions mentioned in the conversation. Observe whether students can write down what they listen to correctly. Observe whether students can get the information. Give them some listening tips in time.
Purpose To apply what they have learned and develop thinking and language-using abilities.
3.To learn new words: theater, comfortable, close, ticket, worst, com-fortably… Work on 2d: 1.Read the conversation and answer the two questions: (1)What is Greg's problem (2)What's the newest cinema 2.Work in pairs to introduce your town to your partner. 3.Invite some pairs to act their conversations out and others make comments on their performance. 4.Accumulate key points in the dialogue. Listen to students' answers and pay attention to the use of superlatives in their expressions.
Purpose To link what students learned in this lesson with what may happen in their real life and lead students to put knowledge into practice. To improve students' ability of communicating.
Homework: 1.Required: Review the new words. 2.Optional: To interview your best friend about the best bookstore around his or her house and list his or her reasons.

第二课时(Grammar Focus-3c)
Study of the Text                         
What: This is a grammar lesson.The focus of teaching is to help students correctly use the primary and comparative levels of adjectives and adverbs, especially the superlatives, to describe things.
Why: 3a is to help students to have a good command of when and how to change the forms. 3b is to lead students to use superlatives in their daily life. 3c is to further practice grammar and improve their ability to express.
How: Presentation of dialogues shows the use of superlatives and comparison firstly. Then blanks in sentences help students to change adjectives or adverbs to their superlative forms. Lastly, students practice the expressions in their real life by describing stores or restaurants around their house. Students can have a good command of the grammar points from presentation to practice.

(2)Then, decide what form of the word should be used according to the key points. 3.Complete the exercises and check the answers. 4.Invite some students to give the reason. Step 4 Work on 3b 1.Think of three stores in your town and fill in the chart. 2.Write six sentences using the information in the chart. 3.Free talk: Introduce stores you mentioned in the chart to your partner. Pay attention to their expressions and praise their correct grammar and use of superlatives. Pay attention to how well the students complete the exercises and understand their mastery of superlatives. Observe whether students can use the right forms of the given words correctly. Observe whether students' writing is mostly correct and praise their good job. 
Purpose To improve the ability to use the superlative form of words and use what they have learned.
3.Group work. Step 5 Group work 1.Spend 3 minutes thinking of at least three restaurants for lunch near your home and making a chart about them, including the following information: How much is a meal How far is it from your home Is the service good Is the food good 2.Compare them and talk in groups. 3.Make your conclusion: Which is the best one Why Observe whether students can summarize their conclusion logically and fluently and give a hand in time.
Purpose To develop thinking and language-using abilities and improve students' ability to communicate.
Homework: Give a report on which restaurant is the best based on the information in the chart.
