第一课时(1a-2d)
Study of the Text
What: It is a listening and speaking lesson. Firstly, some pictures of TV shows are given to students to distinguish and match with their names. Then students will learn to express their feelings about the TV shows in conversations. In the second listening material, more TV shows are mentioned for consolidation.
Why: 1a is to list different kinds of TV shows, including their names and pictures. 1b is to improve students' listening ability by matching. 1c is to consolidate their expressions by conversation. 2a-2b are to show more TV shows and introduce how to evaluate them and express feelings about them. 2c-2d are to lead students to practice how to discuss TV shows and their preferences.
How: Looking and matching is the first task to introduce the topic of this unit and activate students' background knowledge of TV shows. Listening tasks are arranged from easy ones to difficult ones to improve students' listening ability. Conversations are useful to consolidate the expressions they have learned and practice talking about their preferences.

T: What TV shows do you like S: I like… T: What do you think of… S: … Step 2 Work on 1a Game time 1.Show some pictures about TV shows(the news, the sitcom, the talk show, the talent show) to the students, and ask students to guess what they are. 2.Look at the pictures, and tell the names of the TV shows. 3.Match the pictures with the TV shows in 1a. 4.Check the answers. Step 3 Listening (1b) 1.Read the shows in the box. 2.Listen for the first time and get the general idea. 3.Listen again and number the shows [1-4] in the order you hear them. 4.Check the answers. Step 4 Pair-work(1c) 1.Look at the expressions in the box and figure out the meaning of each one. 2.Read the conversation after the teacher. Then ask students to make their own conversations using the expressions in the box. 3.Invite some pairs to act out their conversations. Observe whether students can express their ideas fluently with correct grammar. Observe whether most students have a basic understanding of TV shows and explain the ones they don't know. Give students some instruction in listening skills and walk around to check whether they can match the answers correctly. Praise students for their performances and ex-pressions correctly used in their conversations.
Purpose To activate background knowledge through free talk and game time. To develop the listening ability and accumulate vocabulary as the basis of daily communication.

Work on 2b: 1.Read the sentences in 2b. Explain some main sentences to students. 2.Listen again and complete the sentences. 3.Check the answers. Make sure that students know exactly the meaning of the TV shows and what to do next. Observe whether students can get the information. Give them some listening tips in time.
Purpose To enlarge students' vocabulary for communication and develop their language-using ability and listening skills.
3.To learn to make plans. Step 6 Role-play Work on 2c: 1.Free talk: Ask and answer questions about the TV shows in 2a for 5 minutes. 2.Ask some pairs to act out their conversations. Work on 2d: 1.Read the conversation for the first time. 2.Read the conversation again and match the names with the right TV shows.(详见课件资源) 3.Explain some new words and main points in the conversation: hope; discussion; happen; expect… 4.Practice the conversation with your partner and ask some pairs to act out. Encourage students to talk freely with their partners about TV shows. Listen to students' expressions and pay attention to the use of sentence patterns and adjectives in their des-cription of TV shows.
Purpose To apply what they have learned to develop thinking and language-using abilities.
Homework: Write a short passage to talk about your preferences about TV shows.

第二课时(Grammar Focus-3c)
Study of the Text
What: This lesson is about the grammar used to talk about TV shows and preferences. Dialogues and conversations show the sentence patterns for communicating. A conversation with blanks to fill in is given to finish as practice. Questions and the interview chart all focus on students' plans and preferences about TV shows.
Why: Grammar Focus is to present the dialogues including preferences and plans about TV shows. 3a is to practice sentence patterns. 3b is to further practice what they have learned. 3c is to develop students' communication and language-using ability.
How: The presentation of dialogues works as an example of talking about TV shows and preferences. Sentences with blanks to fill in are useful for students to have a good command of expression patterns. Questions and answers are used to further develop students' ability to communicate and enhance their expressions in real life. The interview and chart are designed lastly to lead students to practice what they have learned in daily dialogues.

Purpose To enlarge students' understanding of the grammar “to do”. To coalesce the grammar point with the topic of TV shows so that students can practice it in daily conversations.
3.Group work. Step 4 Group work Work on 3c: 1.Group work: ask and write down what TV shows your classmates like or plan to watch. 2.Free talk: give the students three minutes to talk about what they write. 3.Choose some students to show the charts about their groups. Point out key points used in their expressions and ask the class to applaud their performances.
Purpose To develop language-using ability and cultivate students' ability to communicate.
Homework: Give a report on what TV shows your family members like.
