  Mike is going to a big dinner party. He wears old clothes. He comes into the big room, but no one looks at him and no one gives him a seat at the table. So he goes back home, puts on his best clothes, and goes back to the party. The host gets up at once and comes to welcome him. The host takes him to the best seat and gives him the best food. Mike takes off his coat, puts it in the food and says, “Eat, coat!” The others are very surprised and ask, “Oh, dear! What are you doing ” “I'm asking my coat to eat,” answers Mike. “When I am wearing my old clothes, nobody takes a look at me and gives me something to eat. But after I go home and put on these new clothes, you give me the best food and drink.So I think you give me these things for my clothes, not for me.”

  Step 1 观察及探究
(一)情态动词can的用法
  【观察】
  Jim can swim but I can't.吉姆会游泳,但我不会。
  Han Mei can't be in the classroom.韩梅不可能在教室里。

  Can I have a cup of tea, please 请问我可以喝一杯茶吗

  【探究】
  情态动词can有一定的词义,但不能独立存在,它必须与 动词原形 一起构成谓语。情态动词can没有 人称 和 数 的变化。
  1.表示“能,会”,指脑力或体力方面的“ 能力 ”。
  2.表示“可能”,常用于否定句或疑问句,指某种 可能性 。
  3.表示“可以”,常用于口语,指许可或请求做某事。
  (二)现在进行时态表将来
  【观察】
  I'm leaving tomorrow. 我明天走。
  They're getting married next month. 他们下个月结婚。
  Are you meeting Bill this evening 今晚你将和比尔见面吗
  【探究】
  表示按计划或安排要发生的动作时,常用现在进行时表将来,有“意图”“安排”或“打算”的含义。其谓语动词多是转移动词,常见的有arrive, come, do, get, go, have, leave等。
语法巧记口诀:
情态动词can
情态动词有特点,动词原形在后边;
can的用法不简单,你要记在心里面;
第一用法表能力,能这能那真给力;
第二用法表可能,否定疑问它都行;
第三许可和请求,口语之中来要求。     
进行时态表将来
进行时态表将来,表示计划和安排;
使用动词不很多,转移动词占很多;
句子结构很简单,be和现分必相连。

第一课时(1a-2d)
Study of the Text                         
What: There is a picture with many people talking about the invitation and answering the invitation. Then listening and matching tasks lead students to accumulate related expressions. The conversation and role-play help students to practice communicating.
Why: 1a and 1b are to lead in the topic and help students to accumulate expressions. 1c is to put what they have learned into practice. 2a is to introduce the usage of “can”. 2b and 2c are to develop students' listening and speaking abilities. 2d is to enlarge students' expressions and develop their communication ability.
How: Pictures can arouse students' interest in the topic and help them to understand the meaning of the sentence. Conversations are useful for students to accumulate related expressions and enlarge their vocabulary about invitations in daily communication.

Encourage them to share their ideas using the expressions in the picture.
Purpose To activate students' background information and present expressions used in the conversations to develop their communication ability.
2.To learn the usage of “can” and “can't”. Step 4 Listening (2a,2b) 1.Listen for the first time and circle “can” or “can't”. 2.Write down the names of people who can't go to the party in the chart in 2b. 3.Listen again carefully and write down the reasons. 4.Check the answers with students. Observe whether students can complete the listening activities. According to the per-formances of students, you can give guidance.
Purpose To develop students' listening ability of getting information. To develop students' communication ability.
3.To explain if you can go to the party and the reason. Step 5 Group work (2c) 1.Help students form groups of four. Say “One of you invites the other three students to your party. The other three students say‘yes’ or‘no’. If you say no, remember to give a reason.” 2.Have the students work in groups. 3.Let some groups act out their conversations. Step 6 Role-play (2d) 1.Read the conversation and answer the questions. (1)What did they do last fall (2)What does Nick have to do on Saturday (3)When will they hang out 2.Role-play the conversation. Remind students to make notes and communicate actively with classmates.
Purpose To improve students' communication ability and reading skills to get information.
Homework: Invite one of your classmates to do something and note down your conversation.

第二课时(Grammar Focus-3c)
Study of the Text                         
What: Students can learn the usage of “can” through answers and questions presented in the chart. Then there are some phrases for them to accumulate expressions of activities. Filling in the blanks to complete sentences can consolidate their expressions.
Why: Grammar Focus is to present dialogues about the invitation as a sample for students to learn. 3a is to lead students to accumulate more activities in daily life. 3b is to promote their communication ability. 3c is to help students learn about the importance of the schedule and how to answer others' invitations.
How: Questions and answers present sentence patterns and the usage of “can”. Blanks and sentences lead students to finish the dialogue and learn how to accept or refuse others' invitations. Charts and conversations help students to put what they accumulate into practice.

Purpose To enlarge students' grammar knowledge and pave the way for students' communication and writing.
2.To use the following structures to talk about obligations: I might have to/must… Step 3 Consolidation Work on 3a: 1.Check the answers and the teacher gives explanations if necessary. 2.Students read the dialogues and practice with their partners. Work on 3b: Students check each other's invitations and correct the mistakes if there are any. Step 4 Group work T: Everyone in your group fills in the chart in 3c, and tells the plan from Monday to Sunday to the other students. Do a survey of the chart, and choose a proper time to have a party to make sure most students can go to your party. Observe whether students have mastered the sentence patterns and expressions. Provide guidance and feedback based on students' performances.
Purpose To lead students to learn grammar in system and consolidate their ability of language using.
Homework: Write an invitation to ask your classmates to come to your party.
