Dear Aunt Anne,
Here we are in the New World. At first the forests seemed dark and empty. Then we saw eyes looking at us from the trees. We did not want to go too far from our camp. Our leader said he would look around. When he came back he was laughing. He told us he was upside down hanging(悬挂) from a tree suddenly while he was walking along. It was a trap made by the Indians. They caught him instead of a deer. Another man cut him down.
We got to know the Indians slowly. We watched how they caught fish. We copied them. They pointed to the plants that were safe to eat. My friends and I had the job of picking fruit.Sometimes we returned with purple lips and fingers. Our pockets were empty, so our parents were angry. But the Indians smiled.
We were hungry during the winter. Before we came here, we were farmers and planted big fields of potatoes and wheat. We had cows and plenty of milk.
One spring morning, an Indian arrived. He wanted us to follow him. We came to the top of a hill and looked down. Below were fields. The Indians were farmers, too. They showed us how they were planting corns(玉米). We had never seen such seeds. They looked like yellow teeth. One man pulled a dead fish out of a basket. He put the fish in a hole. Next he put seeds on top. Then he filled the hole with dirt(土). Our Indian friend gave us a small bag.He gave it to us as if it were full of gold! Inside were the yellow “teeth”. Our leader thanked the Indians. Then we returned to the camp.
“Time to dig!” said our leader. “Time to catch fish, too.” Everyone smiled. Maybe we will have plenty of food soon!
Your loving nephew,
Nick

Thinking of getting a pet Owning a pet is a fun and rewarding experience. But every animal and their needs are different, so how can you make sure that you choose the right one for you It’s a big deal, so make sure you read this guide to picking the right pet for you.
You may like the look of a pet but that doesn’t mean they’re right for you. Every pet has its own personality and certain types of animals often have strong characteristics. Some types may also require more vet care than others. For example, French bulldogs and pugs may have problems with their breathing and skin conditions over their lifetime. So think carefully about what you want from your pet before you take one on.
Here are some other situations you need to think about. If you work full time and you want a dog, who would take care of them during the day If you want a cat, will they have a way to outside space while you’re out during the day
From everyday things like food and toys to unexpected vet bills, having a pet will certainly cost money. Make sure you include how much your new pet will cost before you choose them.
Thousands of homeless pets hope for a good home. Charities like Blue Cross can offer support and advice about those pets and help you find the right one for you. Well, if you do want to buy a pedigree dog or cat, go to your vet or breed club. They will provide all the paperwork and observe pets’ nature and health well. Don’t buy them from online dealer because they may have little interest in the health of the pets they sell.
( )53. What can we learn from the passage
Buying pets online is also a good choice because it is cheaper.
Cats are more suitable for people who work long hours every day.
Pets may cost much money because of different problems and needs.
We should never keep those pet that have breathing and skin problems.

help us to choose the right pets B. talk about how to keep different pets

D.
Wearing a white blouse, Ai-Da studies her drawing and puts pencil to paper. She looks like any artist at work. However, the “beep...beep...beep” noise from her arm gives her away. Ai-Da is, in fact, a robot (机器人).
Ai-Da has been described as the world’s “first AI (人工智能) robot artist”. She takes her name from Ada Lovelace, the world’s first female computer programmer. Scientists at Oxford University developed AI systems for Ai-Da. The robot has cameras in her eyeballs. After she has studied an object, she will use her left arm to draw. Now, Ai-Da can only use a pencil for sketches (素描). The plan is for her to paint.
Ai-Da is not the first AI system to make artworks. Since 2006, scientists have been developing software(软件) to turn photos into drawings, Last year, an artwork created using AI was sold in New York for $432,500. However, Ai-Da’s human-like appearance brings something new to the field.
In June, Ai-Da opened her first exhibition at Oxford. There were over 30 drawings by the robot. Ai-Da, standing next to her artworks, caught many visitors eyes.
Ai-Da’s inventor, Aidan Meller, talked about the importance of the robot. “Ai-Da brings a new voice to the art world,” she said. “AI is going to be the big thing of the 2020s. That brings us great changes.” Meller hopes the exhibition was just the start and that more will follow to show how AI is making a difference to human life.

(C)53. What can we learn from the passage

This made him angry and he bit the man. The man hit him hard. She-wolf heard her cub’s cry and came to help him. One of the men shouted ‘Kiche!’ at her. She remembered it.
The man said, “This animal was my brother’s pet. When he died, she ran away. Her father was a wolf, but her mother was a dog.”
“It is a year, Gray Beaver, since she ran away,” said a second Indian.
“He has white fangs(尖牙), we’ll call him White Fang. We’ll take him and his mother with us.” replied Gray Beaver. Then he tied up Kiche, and White Fang lay down beside her.
Soon the rest of the Indians arrived. They were moving camp. They had dogs that also carried things. When the dogs saw Kiche and White Fang, they rushed at them, there was soon a great fight. The men separated them. White Fang and his mother had many bites, again she felt the power of men. They were the makers of law.
