文档简介

上外版 高二年级 选择性必修三 第二单元 第 8 课时
学案(教师版)
I. Critical Thinking Activity 1:
1. What are the similarities of the different types of friendship in the three stories
The characters in the stories are either trapped in hardship or badly in need of help.
Meanwhile, the friendship in the stories does bring hope and courage and help change someone’s life.
2. What values do the sayings convey respectively (You may underline the key words in each saying.)
A friend can change your life with a small gesture. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Good friends help you find important things when you have lost them, your smile, your hope, and your courage.
A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. A friend’s eye is a good mirror.
Friendship is born at the moment when one says to another: What! You too I thought I was the only one.
A friend at hand is better than a relative at distance. In hardship we see the friendship.
Activity 2:
1. Match the sayings with the stories based on the common values they share.
Stories Sayings
Reading A A friend can change your life with a small gesture. Good friends help you find important things when you have lost them, your smile, your hope, and your courage.
Reading B A friend’s eye is a good mirror. Friendship is born at the moment when one says to another: What! You too I thought I was the only one. A friend at hand is better than a relative at distance. In hardship we see the friendship.
Viewing A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
2. Explain why the sayings and the friendship stories share common values according to your understanding.
(Reference answer) The saying, “A friend’s eye is a good mirror.”, suggests that a good friend will truthfully tell you whether you do something good or bad which is valuable to have, because sometimes we don’t see ourselves as clearly as we do others. In Reading B, Johnsy took so negative an attitude towards life that she wanted to go with the last leaf. It was the last leaf painted by Behrman that taught her it was wrong to lose hope of life so easily. Without the masterpiece by Behrman and the great care of her good friend, Sue, Johnsy would keep on behaving immaturely or might have lost her life. Therefore, Sue and Behrman actually act as a good mirror to mirror Johnsy’s problems in life attitude.
II. Further Exploration
Introduce one of the poems to the foreign friends.
Allow me to introduce to you one of my favourite classical Chinese poems, Presented to Wang Lun. It is composed by Li Bai in Tang Dynasty. Li Bai is one of the greatest poets in Chinese history and is known as “Fairy Poet” (诗仙). Wang Lun and Li Bai exchanged poems on a regular basis and thus made friends. This poem, Presented to Wang Lun, describes the moment when Li Bai was on board, ready to push off. Suddenly he heard the tramping and singing on the bank of the Lake of Peach Blossoms, which came from Wang Lun. Li was so deeply touched that he composed this verse.
