Dear fellow students,
Welcome to our new school. It’s my great honor to give a speech here about the challenges we may face in senior high and how to deal with them effectively.
Actually, each of us will meet with a variety of difficulties in our lives and study, such as classmate relationships and study methods. When facing these challenges, we shouldn’t show any fear of them. Instead, it’s better for us to be calm, have confidence and analyze the problems to find out solutions.

Besides, we can always turn to our teachers for municating with them will enable us to have a better understanding of various aspects of life in high school and some effective learning methods. Regarding learning methods, I also have some good ideas to share with you, such as previewing lessons, getting actively involved in class, and reviewing what has been taught after class, which benefited me a lot during middle school.
As for interpersonal relationships, which really have a great influence on our moods and school life, I suggests that we not only have an open mind, be helpful and show gratitude but also stick to some important principles when facing some peer pressure.

Additionally, it is a good idea for us to register for a school club, where we will meet some true friends with whom we have a lot in common. What’s more, after-school activities can enrich our life.
These are my ideas and suggestions, and I hope they will be beneficial and help us adapt to high school life soon. Thanks for your attention. Good luck to all of us!

Friday 8 September
How time flies! I can’t believe the first week is coming to an end. Things are going quite well, and there are one or two things in particular that have left a deep impression on me.
The English class on Thursday was unforgettable. During the class, we were asked to give a short speech about the first day at senior high. All my classmate were excited but I buried my head in my book. I had never delivered a speech in English before, and worse still, I didn’t feel quite at ease speaking in public. I was secretly hoping that nobody would notice me, when suddenly I heard my name called.
I stood up, blushing, with nothing coming out of my mouth. “Don’t be shy! Just think of your first day at senior high and say whatever comes to mind. Imagine we are all pumpkins if it helps.” The teacher’s words made me relax a bit, and I finally began to say something. Despite my trembling voice, I gave my first ever public speech in English. It was hard, but it didn’t feel bad.
After school that day, I decided to go to the English club to further practise my English. I believe that by practising more I can improve a lot. As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” While I was trying to pick up the courage to talk to someone, I heard a kind voice behind me. “Hello, I’m Tom, Nice to meet you.” Sitting side-by-side, he shared with me some tips on how to improve my English. We had a lovely chat and soon became friends.
The first week of senior high has been quite exciting, and I am looking forward to making the most of senior high!
