But mostly, I'm mindlessly scrolling past(滑过) things I don't care about, which defeats the reason I signed up for these social accounts in the first place. I wanted to feel powerful, but usually, I just end up feeling exhausted.
Instead of blaming social media in general, I decided to cleanse all of my accounts for the better, which means I spent one month deleting unfriending people online.
At the start of my quest, I felt really bad about unfriending Facebook friends who hadn't done me harm. I mean, I don't hate them or anything; I just don't like their social media presence, and I don't really talk to them anymore. Then, I realized that unfriending someone doesn't mean that there are hard feelings— it means that I won't know their Candy Crush score or what their kid's sandcastle looks like.
To make the process easier, I came up with what I'd like to call“ the Costco test”. Basically, it's just asking myself if I would say‘ hi’ to this person if I ran into him/ her at Costco. For me, this is a pretty high standard. The test forced me to draw the line between people I was truly friends with at one point and the people I've said two words to in my whole life. Most likely, the people in the latter category(范畴) don't want to know all that much about me either. So I unfriended them.
I wasn't expecting to feel such a huge sense of relief at the end of this experiment. I trimmed(缩减) just under 100 Facebook friends. So when I log in, I'm actually interested in what I see. Overall, I have a clearer head and I also save time throughout the day, since I have fewer things to catch up on and look at aimlessly.

Fresh peas often take so long to reach grocery stores that they usually lose their original flavor when you eat them. Frozen peas, which are frozen within hours of being picked, keep their sweetness and crispness(脆度), not to mention their bright color.
While people in cold climates have been preserving food by freezing for longer than we probably can record, in the early 20th century, processed food companies had a lot to learn when it came to making defrosted(解冻的) fish and other food stuffs delicious. Frozen food always took on a depressingly mushy (糊状的) texture.
The idea of making food eatable for the future by freezing had been appealing for quite some time. Sir Francis Bacon conducted a food- freezing experiment in 1626. He noticed food could be stored longer in winter, so he had a chicken's body stuffed with snow to see if it would be well preserved. His death soon after stopped him from continuing the experiment.
A turning point in the frozen food industry's history came when Clarence Birdseye, a naturalist, lived in Labrador. There he learned about the customs of the Inuit, who would go ice fishing and then let their catch immediately freeze in the very cold air. When this frozen fish, which was left out in the cold, was eventually cooked, it tasted fresh and delicious. He applied the same method to cabbages, and it worked wonderfully.
However, frozen food didn't find its feet then. Large numbers of Americans first tasted frozen food in the 1940s, during World War II, when there was a shortage of canned goods. Even more significant was the fact that while men were off fighting, women took jobs outside the home, causing them to seek faster ways to fix meals.
It took trial and error to discover the foods that froze well and to improve refrigeration in transportation systems, in stores, and in people's homes.
28. What challenge did processed food companies face in the early 20th century
A. Promoting sales of frozen products.

30. What did Clarence Birdseye learn from the Inuit
A. Cooking skills mattered a lot to flavor.
B. Ice fishing could be a health- giving activity.
C. Quick freezing helped keep food's favor and freshness.
D. Certain frozen products offered superior taste and quality.
31. What did World War II mean to frozen food
A. It drove a great boost in frozen food consumption.
B. It resulted in a sudden rise in the price of frozen food.
C. It posed a challenge to the transportation of frozen food.
D. It redirected frozen food producers' focus to canned goods.

Deepfake technology, which uses AI and machine learning and can change videos and photographs in a way that appears realistic, has frequently been covered in a negative light. The technology can be used to violate (侵犯) privacy and create fake videos. While these potential abuses of the technology are real and concerning, it doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to the technology's potential .
Jaime Donally, a math teacher and technologist, has written about how a type of deepfake technology called Deep Nostalgia that went viral in 2021 can allow students to form a stronger connection with the past. She never met her grandfather in her real life. Using deepfake technology she was able to make one of the few photos that exist of her grandfather come to life, which was moving for her.“ It just gave this deeper connection,” she says.
Teachers have used the deepfake technology to bring historical figures such as Albert Einstein to life. One teacher Donally has“ communicated” with Frederick Douglass to help students connect with Douglass’ famous 1852 speech about the meaning of the Fourth of July to Black enslaved Americans. Another teacher has plans to use the technology to have students interview a historical figure and create dialogue for them.“ It makes them want to learn more,” Donally says of using deepfake technology.“ It drives them into kind of the history and understanding a bit more, and I think it also helps them identify who they are in that process.”
As much potential as deep fake technology has, there are still important privacy concerns educators need to weigh and evaluate. It's important to check the legality(合法性) of data collection of facial structure, features, and expressions, and how that information is stored or shared. Teachers should help their students learn to navigate this new technology that will likely be a part of society going forward.
32. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. Deepfake has aroused much interest in public.
B. Deepfake can produce more realistic photos.
C. The benefits of deepfake shouldn't be ignored.
D. More and more fake videos created by deepfake.
33. What does“ went viral” underlined in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Became unpopular. B. Spread fast.
C. Was ignored. D. Remained fresh.
34. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Reasons for popularity of deepfake technology.
B. Application of deepfake technology in education.
C. Expectation for deepfake technology in society.
D. The wide use of deepfake technology in classrooms.
35. What is the authors' attitude towards the uses of deepfake
A. Objective. B. Disapproving. C. Unclear. D. Favourable.

I was standing in the living room in my running clothes, struggling with an armband that was supposed to hold my phone.
“ Wouldn't it be amazing if I could pay someone to exercise for me, and the fat would magically disappear from my body ” I said.“ Thus, I wouldn't have to suffer the hard work of doing it myself.”
My husband looked at me as if I were a nut. To me, running was the worst thing in the world. Running was for athletes or people who liked to hurt themselves. Running was for anyone but me.
“ Come on, Mary,” my husband said.“ No one can exercise for you! You must do it yourself to lose weight and be healthy!” I nodded, trying to wear the armband again and attach my phone to it. I needed the phone to listen to music to draw my attention from how much running would hurt. I also needed it so that I could hear the computer voice of my mile tracker(追踪器) telling me my physical condition with every passing mile.
I wasn't getting any younger. Pushing myself to the limit had never before crossed my mind. But the pounds weren't exactly disappearing though I improved my eating habits and hoped for the best. The annoying weight was slowly creeping(慢慢移动) to my legs and backside. Actually, it was creeping everywhere. As my doctor put it,“ It's time to put some exercise into your schedule.” My only hope for fighting against heavy weight and age would be through exercise. So here I was about to start the very thing I disliked.
“ If you don't hear from me in 30 minutes, come look for me. I could be lying on the side of the road. .. weak or dead,” I said to my husband.
Without even looking at me, my husband said,“ Mary, it really won't be so bad. You just have to get started. Believe me! You'll do great!”
“ Right,” I smiled as he continued preparing for his shift. Hesitating, I walked out alone. It was dark and cold outside.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Gathering my courage, I fired up the music and my mile tracker. Upon finishing a 25- minute run for the first time, I called my husband.
