Captain(船长)Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea to being on land.”
“I do,” replied the captain. “But these forests are under the sea.”
After going through a door, we were about ten meters under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We were going deeper and deeper. At 100 meters deep, we could see quite well, and Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. “The trees” in the forest were giant seaweed, and all their “branches” were vertical(垂直的).We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest.
Suddenly, I saw a large sea spider about a meter tall. It was going to attack me. Captain Nemo’s man killed it with his gun, but it reminded me that the sea could be as dangerous as it was beautiful. When we reached 150 meters, it was dark. The sun’s light could not reach this depth. We turned our lights. We could see about 20 meters around us. Finally, we found Crespo Island—where a steep rock wall rose in front of us.
We could go no further, so we walked back toward the Nautilus. Suddenly, Captain Nemo stopped and shot an animal with his gun, it was a beautiful and rare sea otter. At last, we could see the Nautilus. Several large sharks swam over us. Luckily they didn’t see us. We re-entered the Nautilus safely. I was tired but amazed by what I had seen.

A. Birds B. Giant seaweed C. Fish D. Branches
When they reached 150meters, how could they see things around
A. With the hep of the sun's light B. The rock's light helped them

Big data (大数据) is a lot of sets of information that are put together so they can be used by a computer program. The computer program looks for different kinds of answers or patterns in the data. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources, such as information that comes from schools, social media sites, companies and governments. One set of data can have people’s names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, and how much time they spend on the computer
Big data can be used in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. This information is then used to make bus or train systems better. Some schools use big data to understand which children may need extra help in class. The teacher can then give certain students more help or support so those students can succeed in panies use big data, too. It helps them understand who buys their products. For example, one company uses weather data to see when people eat the most ice cream.
Big data can be used for good reasons. Some hospitals use big data to predict if a baby who is born too early will get sick. The hospital can then take extra steps to take care of that baby so he, she does not get sick. Big data can also be used for bad reasons. It can be used to predict which kinds of people are likely to break the law or hurt others, even if they have not done anything wrong.
How can big data be used for good and bad things It is because the computer programs used to look at big data and understand it are written by people. People think a certain way. Because they think a certain way, they build a model of those ideas. These ideas are then used to look at the data. Sometimes, these ideas are helpful for people or businesses. Other times, bad ideas can cause problems for certain groups of people.

An old English saying goes, “Laughter is the best medicine.” One person who certainly would have agreed with this is Norman Cousins.
Norman Cousins was the editor of a magazine called “Saturday Review” for almost forty years. He also wrote and spoke about world peace and anti-nuclear (反核的) and anti-war issues (问题). And he traveled to many different countries to share his ideas.

For eight days, Mr. Cousins rested in the hotel room watching comedy show on TV, reading amusing books, and sleeping whenever he felt tired. Almost all the students have to finish much homework on Saturdays and Sundays. But it seems that doing the weekend homework is a big problem for the students now. Many students think teachers shouldn’t give them much weekend homework to do. It’s enough for them to study at school five days a week. They want to do many other meaningful activities. But with homework to do at weekends, how can they find time to help their parents, go and see a football game or a good film, or just have a rest at home The homework can’t be finished until Sunday night. They usually finish their homework quickly, so there are usually many mistakes. Of course, on Monday the teachers are unhappy. Since the weekend homework does little help to the students, why don’t teachers stop it If there were no weekend homework, the students would be happy and have more energy to go to school on Monday after a good rest.
