It’s not rare to hear of Chinese parents hiring a tutor if their children are doing poorly on tests. Did you know that teenagers can be tutors themselves Amir Davis, 16, from New York, US, is a tutor. Together with six other teens, he runs a special tutoring program for other kids in his community.
The program mainly helps middle schoolers who have difficulties in their classes or who are preparing for a test called the Specialized High School Admissions Test(SHSAT). It is an admission test(入学考试)for eight STEM-oriented public high schools in New York.
As an African-American student at one of these schools, Davis was sad to realize that black and Latino(拉丁裔的)students had low admission rates(录取率)every year. These groups hold only 10. 4 percent of the students admitted to these schools.
One of the reasons for the low admission rate is that a number of black and Latino students don’t take the SHSAT, with many families not realizing that they can take the test. So Davis tries to help kids in his area prepare for the test while also helping them with other schoolwork.
Davis and his team recently turned a building that his father bought into a tutoring centre. During their tutoring, they first address what the students are doing in their classrooms. If they are having trouble with any specific topic, Davis or other tutors will walk them and solve it. With this help, the students can try to improve their knowledge of difficult subjects and do better in the classroom.

A company called Third Nature wants to teach the world how to walk on water. It has started a project in Copenhagen to reduce the danger of heavy rainfall.
In the spring of 2014, Third Nature began working on the idea. And three years later, the “Climate Tile(瓷砖)” came out. The special tiles have many holes on them. And below the tiles is a rainwater collecting and distributing(分配)system. Climate change is causing more terrible weather like rainstorms. According to Third Nature, the tiles “drink” 30 percent of rainfall on rainy days, preventing cities from becoming swimming pools. __________
In September 2018, Copenhagen agreed to let Third Nature try the tiles in the city: a fifty-metre-long sidewalk in front of a cafe. They want to see the Climate Tile in action throughout the seasons and check how it works in different weather. If it works well, the tiles will be used on both sidewalks and roofs.
The sidewalk in cities is an important part for the future communities. Many cafes are moving tables out on sidewalks, so does the one with the Climate Tile. Thanks to evaporation(蒸发)through the tiles, this cafe gets better microclimate. “Living with climate change isn’t just about science, but also a chance for everybody to join the act for better everyday spaces,” said Jeppe Ecklon, the project manager.

When was the last time that you dialed a phone number from memory It probably depends on how long you’ve used technology like a cellphone. While some old people can recall the days of memorizing phone numbers, it’s possible that teenagers have never had to remember any telephone numbers. Smartphones offer quick and easy ways for keeping information. There is no need to memorize anything. But this isn’t without results.
As smartphones develop, more and more users’ depending on them may cause terrible results. “Digital dementia” are the words used by experts to describe some of these results. Some doctors like Jim Kwik, an expert in memory improvement, are taking a closer look at this result. Kwik describes digital dementia like this: “. . . we’re offering our brains to our smart devices. ” He continues, “We’re depending on our smartphones so heavily that our smartphones are making us stupid. ” As medical studies show the drop in memory and learning skills among smartphone users, a connection is made between symptoms(症状)which are connected with dementia.
The seriousness of overuse becomes clear when you consider just how young smartphone users are becoming. Writer and speaker Simon Sinek points out that young minds are not ready for it and their minds cannot deal with the problems. So, smartphone screens and sounds lead to addiction(入迷,上瘾)more often than before. So now parents, teachers and managers should try to deal with the young people with this kind of addiction.
In fact, smartphones aren’t all bad. They’re really easy to use, and the connectivity(连通)they create cannot be thought wrong. The key is finding out how to make a balance between usage and nonuse. We should control our cellphone use, making sure when and where we can use cellphones.
69. Why DON’T young kids remember any telephone numbers Because .
A. teenagers wouldn’t like to use any smartphones
B. teenagers are too lazy to remember information
C. it’s hard for teenagers to remember information
D. smartphones can keep and offer information
70. What does the underlined phrase “Digital dementia” mean
A. Ways to use smartphones. B. Time to use smartphones.
C. Good results of smartphones. D. Bad results of smartphones.
71. What may happen if we use smartphones, according to medical studies
A. Memory will drop. B. Learning skills will rise.
C. Kids will be cleverer. D. Kids will feel happier.
72. Paragraph 3 mainly tells us that .
A. we should stop young kids from using smartphones
B. we should help kids deal with the smartphone addiction
C. it’s very dangerous for young kids to use smartphones
D. although dangerous, young kids still use smartphones
73. How does the writer end this passage
