由that引导的宾语从句表示陈述意义。关联词that无实际意义,在口语和非正式文体中 that 可以省略。
① I think (that) he'll return in an hour.
② He said (that) he missed us very much.
③ We knew (that) Summer is after Spring.
宾语从句为陈述语序。
宾语从句的时态取决于主句的时态:
1. 主句使用现在时,从句可使用任何时态;
1. that引导的宾语从句
2. 主句使用过去时态,从句一律使用过去时态。
3. 当宾语从句是客观真理或不可改变的自然现象时,宾语从句须用一
般现在时。

that在宾语从句中的省略与保留
由并列连词连接的两个或多个that引导的宾语从句,只有第一个从句中的that 可以省去,其余并列宾语从句中的that都要保留。
Robert said (that) he had finished reading the book and that he would borrow another one.
it作形式宾语代替that引导的宾语从句时,that不能省略。

that修饰时,that不能省略。

当that作介词except, in等宾语时不能省略。

由whether/if 引导的宾语从句,引导词在从句中具有实际意义“是否”,但不做任何成分,所以不可省略。它是由一般疑问句转化而来的,表示不肯定的语气。
① She asked whether/if they had been to Beijing.

在介词后,只能用whether;
