ADVERSITY AND COURAGE
Reading and Thinking
Class report
Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was an Irish-born British explorer who was one of the giants of Antarctic exploration in the Heroic Age(英雄时代) in the early years of the 20th Century.
Shackleton led the Endurance expedition to the South Pole, one of the four expeditions in his life. On the previous expedition, his team came closer to the South Pole than anyone else in the world. Trapped by floating ice, Shackleton's crew had to abandon ship and wait for rescue while on a deserted island.
But thanks to Shackleton's remarkable leadership, the perseverance, the optimism, and mutual support of the expedition members, they worked together to create the miracle that all 28 members of the expedition survived. And it became the human history of the Jedi survival(绝地求生) model, showing the glory of human nature. Throughout his life, Shackleton's Antarctic expeditions fell short of their goals, but he is still remembered for his extraordinary courage, tireless exploration and persistence in his dreams. His epitaph has always inspired future generations: “I believe that People's life should make every effort to get the best reward of life.”
