第一节【参考范文]
Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm Li Hua, an exchange student from China. I am now studying in a senior high school in London. Reading your advertisement on the Internet, I take great interest in it, and thus I recommend myself to you without hesitation.
As a boy of 18, I am outgoing and easy to get along well with. I do quite well in Chinese lessons and I am good at spoken English, which enables me to communicate with the primary school students in both languages smoothly. Above all, I have taken part in similar camp activities twice, accumulating enough experience of working well with children. I'm sure I can do the job wonderfully if you give me the chance.
I am looking forward to your early reply.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua
第二节[参考范文]
“Are you busking(街头卖艺),Tiegan ”Mrs Maudslay asked. “No. I'm just playing and singing," answered Tiegan. "I think the man must have mistaken me as a street performer, because I have my hat out there. It is really funny," Tiegan added. She hadn't meant to start a new job, but since her hat was already out, she decided to keep singing. Soon enough, people walked past and stopped to listen. When they were ready to move on, they dropped some money into her hat.
By the end of the afternoon, Tiegan's hat was full. Tiegan felt happy, because she not only got a lot of unexpected dollars, but also proved that her songs were recognized by people. Singing didn't feel like work to her, but it was certainly a good way to earn money. It suddenly occurred to her that with this money, she could take Mom and Dad out for ice cream just as soon as Dad was feeling better. After all, her singing had disturbed the peace of their home for so long.单元检测卷

GRADING POLICY
Grades help to determine a student's success. To accomplish the goal of furthering the education and guarantee the same educational opportunities for everyone, the following policies and expectations are requested to be followed by all students.
Grading Method
In our school, grades will be weighed by the following three categories.
Category A-Tests, Quizzes, Research Assignments, Projects, and Presentations.
Category B-Homework, Class Work, Content Readings, Notebooks, and Essays.
Category C-Prepared for Class, Class Participation, and Discussion Participation.
Grading Criteria
Category A:70%
Category B:20%
Category C:10%
Within each category different points can be assigned per event. Participation grades are calculated at the end of each marking period. If a student does not participate, they do not earn any pleting homework assignments is part of your participation grade. Therefore, any homework assignments not completed will result in points being lowered from both Category B & Category C. This reduces the possible points that can be earned and thus the overall participation grade.
Due Dates
Due dates are final for all major grades. Advance notice will be given to help the students manage their time. Research papers should be finished prior to the deadline in order to avoid last minute problems, such as computer or print-er errors or other distracting events. Students who do not complete or make up work within the scheduled time will not receive any credit for those assignments and will not have an opportunity to complete the work at a later date and scholarship is unavailable as well.
21.Which grading item belongs to Category C
A. Discussions. B. Presentations. C. Content readings. D. Quizzes.
22. What will happen if any homework is not completed
A. The marking period will be put off.
B. The overall points will be reduced.
C. The participation point will be zero.
D. The Category A points will be affected.
23. What can we learn from Due Dates
A. Advance notice is unavailable to students.
B. Preparing research papers in advance is essential.
C. Students can make up their work after due dates.
D. Scholarship can be obtained on a second chance.

Living in Iowa and trying to become a photographer specializing in landscape(风景)can be quite a challenge, mainly because the corn state lacks geographical variation.
Although landscapes in the Midwest tend to be quite similar, either farm fields or highways, sometimes I find distinctive character in the hills or lakes. To make some of my landscape shots, I have traveled up to four hours away to shoot within a 10-minute time frame. I tend to travel with a few of my friends to state parks or to the countryside to go on adventures and take photos along the way.
Being at the right place at the right time is decisive in any style of photography. I often leave early to seek the right destinations so I can set up early to avoid missing the moment I am at-tempting to photograph. I have missed plenty of beautiful sunsets/sunrises due to being on the spot only five minutes before the best moment.
One time my friends and I drove three hours to Devil's Lake, Wisconsin, to climb the purple quartz(石英)rock around the lake. After we found a crazy-looking road that hung over a bunch of rocks, we decided to photograph the scene at sunset. The position enabled us to look over the lake with the sunset in the background. We managed to leave this spot to climb higher because of the spare time until sunset. However, we did not mark the route(路线)so we ended up almost missing the sunset entirely. Once we found the place, it was stressful getting lights and cameras set up in the limited time. Still, looking back on the photos, they are some of my best shots though they could have been so much better if I would have been prepared and man-aged my time wisely.
24. How does the author deal with the challenge as a landscape photographer in the Midwest'
A. By teaming up with other photographers.
B. By shooting in the countryside or state parks.
C. By studying the geographical conditions.
D. By creating settings in the corn fields.
25. What is the key to successful landscape photography according to the author
A. Proper time management.
B. Good shooting techniques.
C. Adventurous spirit.
D. Distinctive styles.
26. What can we infer from the author's trip with friends to Devil's Lake
A. They went crazy with the purple quartz rock
B. They felt stressed while waiting for the sunset.
C. They reached the shooting spot later than expected.
D. They had problems with their equipment
27. How does the author find his photos taken a Devil's Lake
A. Amusing. B. Satisfying. C. Encouraging. D. Comforting.

Hidden in the trees, behind the leaves, too closely and you'll see eyes staring back at you This is SlothBot, a robot inspired by the famously slow animal-sloth(树懒).
For the next several months, visitors to the Atlanta Botanical Garden will be able to observe the testing of the new high-tech tool in the battle to save some of the world's most endangered species. Researchers are testing the SlothBot near the Garden's popular Canopy Walk.
Built to take advantage of the low-energy lifestyle of real sloths, SlothBot demonstrates how being slow can be ideal for certain applications Powered by solar panels and using innovative power management technology, SlothBot moves along a cable strung between two large trees as it monitors temperature, weather, carbon dioxide levels, and other information in the Garden's 30-acre midtown Atlanta forest.
"Slowness is a design principle of Sloth-Bot," says Magnus Egerstedt, professor and chair in the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.“That is not how robots are typically designed today, but being slow and energy-efficient will allow SlothBot to stay in the environment to observe things we can only see by being present continuously for months, or even years.”
About three feet long, SlothBot's imaginative 3D-printed shell helps protect its motors, gearing, batteries and sensing equipment from the weather. The robot is programmed to move only when necessary, and will locate sunlight when its batteries need recharging.
“The most exciting goal we'll demonstrate with SlothBot is the union of robotics and technology with conservation," says Emily Coffey, vice president for conservation and research at the Garden. "We do conservation research on endangered plants and ecosystems around the world, and SlothBot will help us find new and exciting ways to advance our research and conservation goals.”
"SlothBot could do some of our research re-motely and help us understand what's happening with pollinators(传粉者),interactions between plants and animals, and other phenomena that are difficult to observe otherwise," Coffey adds.
28. What do the researchers expect SlothBot to do
A. Guard the garden. B. Attract visitors. C. Protect real sloths. D. Help endangered species.
29. What does the underlined word “That”in paragraph 4 probably refer to
A. SlothBot. B. Slowness. C.A design principle. D.A low-energy style.
30.What can we know about SlothBot
A. It always stays still.
B. It can pollinate the plants.
C. Its shell provides protection for itself.
D. Its design will be used to study the ocean.
31.What may be the best title for the text
A. A Slow-moving Sloth Begins Life in a Garden
B. A New Robot Helps Raise Endangered Animals
C.A New Study Aids Conservation Efforts in Atlanta
D. A Conservation Robot Slowly Monitors Endangered Species
D
Reaching out to support a person when they're under stress is always a good idea. In fact, a new study suggests that support could be especially important for someone whose genetic quality makes them more likely to develop de-pression. The study shows the importance of social support to buffer the risk of developing depression symptoms in general.
The study uses data from two very different groups of people under stress: new doctors in the most intense year of training, and older adults whose beloved ones recently passed away. The finding shows greatest impact of social support in those with highest risk scores for depression.
Compared to other groups of individuals in the study who had low depression risk scores, the doctors and widows with higher risk scores had higher rates of depression after they lost social support, but also had lower rates of depression when they gained social support during stressful times.
Sen, who is the director of the Eisenberg Family Depression Center adds that even as genetic research reveals more of the DNA variation (变异)related to depression vulnerability, learning how that variation leads to depression is crucial. "Further understanding the different genetic maps associated with sensitivity to loss of social support, lack of sleep, excessive work stress and other risk factors could help us develop personalized guidance for depression prevention," he said. "In the meantime, these findings reaffirm how important social connections, social support and individual sensitivity to the social environment are as factors in well-being and preventing depression.”
Besides ,the data used in the study is based on people of European origin, which limits the ability to generalize the findings to people of other backgrounds. Sen noted that additional work is being done to collect scores based on depression-related genetic characteristics in other populations including people of East Asian and African blood.
32.What does the new study find
A. One's genetic quality is related to depression.
B. People without support tend to feel depressed.
C. Depression can be passed on among generations.
D. Social support can reduce genetic depression risk.
33.How do the researchers carry out the study
A. By collecting data.
B. By giving examples.
C. By studying papers.
D. By doing experiments.
34.What does the underlined word "vulnerability" mean in paragraph 4
A. Tendency. B. Weakness. C. Awareness. D. Reduction.
35. What can we learn from the text
A. Depression will lead to DNA variation
B. Genetic maps can guide us to well-being
C. Further data are to be collected for the study
D. Individual sensitivity is a great d risk.

Whether you've been teaching for this is your first year in the classroom, there’s no doubt that finding the best strategies for school conferences can be challenging. After trying, I've come up with a few must-dos that have transformed my conferences. 36 !
Form a relationship with families before the conference
My number one school conference starts long before the conference dates are scheduled. I make sure that I've positively connected with each student's caregivers well before they sit down with me at conference time. 37 .When caregivers gain the belief that we're on the same team and have similar goals, it opens the doors for productive and ,meaningful conferences.
Consistent classroom communication
38 .Classroom newsletters or digital updates via educational apps really help givers feel informed and included. Simple as it is, this strategy brings great benefits, such as increasing the connections between home and school, giving caregivers a glimpse into daily schedules, routines, and sharing academic content and vocabulary, to name but a few.
39
With caregivers' varied schedules, commitments, other children, and transplantation constraints(限制),I love to be able to offer an alternative to in-person conferences. Offering a phone conference or Zoom conference option for care-givers opens up conferences to those that other-wise would not be able to get to school to meet in person. Involve students and caregivers in the conference process.
Conferences are a time for me to share data, observations, celebrations, and goals with caregivers. 40 ! Conferences are an active con versation among all stakeholders: students, their caregivers, and their teachers.
A. But that's not all
B. The possibilities are endless
C. Offer times to support all the families
D. Expanded options for conference modes
E. They'll also make your conference a success
F. It is key to building trust for the entire school year
G. Regular, consistent correspondence is another strategy I use

A Surprise Job
Tiegan always liked to sing. Her earliest memories all have songs in them. Tiegan liked to sing in the bath tub when she was getting ready for bed, and she liked to sing in the morning while she walked to school.
Sometimes, though, Tiegan's family liked the house to be quiet. Mom liked to solve crossword puzzles, and Dad liked to watch the news on TV each night. “It's quiet time, Tiegan,” they would say. Then Tiegan had to find something else to do. She had plenty of puzzles and games, but she didn't like them as much as singing.
One summer day, Tiegan was singing her favorite songs in the living room, Dad came downstairs and said,“Tiegan, I have a headache. Can you go outside and play I really need it to be quiet so I can take a nap. ”
Tiegan sighed and went outside. It was a sunny day, and many people were outside riding bikes and walking their dogs. She sat on the roadside and looked around. Then she started to hum(哼歌).She was careful to be quiet at first, but soon the humming turned to singing.“Dad probably can't hear me anyway," she thought , “so it's probably okay to sing outside. “
The sun was very warm, and Tiegan took off her baseball cap. Now she could feel a cool breeze across her forehead, which felt nice. She dropped her hat on the sidewalk and kept singing.
Just as Tiegan finished one of her favorite songs, a man with a small dog stopped in front of her. “That was a beautiful song," he said. And he dropped a dollar into her hat. Before Tiegan could say anything, the man walked away with his dog.
Tiegan wasn't sure what to do with the dollar, but she did want to keep singing. As she started her next song, their neighbor Mrs Maudslay came out of her house and looked over the fence.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
"Are you busking(街头卖艺),Tiegan ”Mrs Maudslay asked.
By the end of the afternoon, Tiegan's hat was full.
