Work in pairs and discuss the following question.

If you were Jimmy, would you arrest your friend
1. Jimmy was the policeman. He turned up as they agreed twenty years ago, but he decided to fulfill(履行) his duty and have Bob arrested.
2. Bob would be very sad and angry when he read the note because Jimmy was his best friend and he trusted him deeply but Jimmy made him arrested. Or Bob would feel sort of comfortable because he might think that Jimmy had a good sense of duty and was just and fair. In some ways, he didn’t have to hide himself restlessly in his later life.

3. Yes, I think Jimmy did right. From his note, I can catch that Jimmy had mixed feelings. He knew Bob was the criminal and what his duty was. But the memories of their friendship, the expressions of Bob’s undying respect and admiration for him and the fact that Bob had come all the way from a thousand miles away just to keep the appointment made 20 years before must have deeply touched him. Therefore, he could not bring himself to arrest Bob.
All in all, law is more important than friendship to maintain the whole society to develop smoothly.
Bob is going to write a letter to Jimmy from the prison. Please help Bob to write the letter.
