Witches were thought to be tellers of fortune and to cast spells(施法), both good and bad. This frightened many because it was believed that these powers were strongest on Halloween night.

Nowadays, most people no longer believe in ghosts. So Halloween becomes more a holiday for people to enjoy fun activities. children (and adults) dress up as anyone they like, e.g.comic book heroes, cartoon characters, television personalities.

Halloween is one of the world’s oldest holidays in October. It is celebrated in many western countries like the USA, Canada, and England.Long long ago, people believed that there was one day of a year when witches got together and ghosts walked around. So Halloween began as a festival to remember the dead.
