Dream homesStudy skills Stress in a word When we pronounce words of more than one syllable, we stress one of the syllables. The stressed syllable sounds stronger. This makes spoken English sound like music. The stress can be on the first, middle or last syllable of a word.如果一个单词里面有两个或者以上的音节，我们读的时候会发现里面有部分是读得比较响亮的。这些单词中读音特别响亮的音节就叫单词的重读音节。 划分音节的方法：元音是构成音节的主体，辅音是音节的分界线。
1. 两辅音之间不管有多少个元音，一般都是一个音节。如：bed 床，bet 打赌，seat 坐位，beat 毒打，beaut 极好的 beau'ty 美。
2.两元音字母之间有一个辅音字母时，辅音字母归后一音节，如：stu'dent 学生，la'bour 劳动。
3.有两个辅音字母时，一个辅音字母归前一音节，一个归后一音节，如：let'ter 信，win'ter 冬天。
4.不能拆分的字母组合按字母组合划分音节。如：fa‘ther 父亲，tea’cher 教师。
单词的发音灵魂是元音，掌握这一点就不难了。
方法是这样的：从单词的左边往右边看，以一个元音加上其左边的辅音为一个音节。如果该元音前面没有辅音，那它就是独立音节。
单词的分类： 按照一个单词有几个音节来划分
每个单词都是由一个个音节组成的，所以单词就可以按照音节来分成这几种类型：单音节，双音节，多音节
单音节----- 一个音节叫单音节。只有一个音节 的单词叫单音节词（ monosyllable ）。比如：take
双音节--- 两个音节叫双音节。只有两个音节的单词叫双音节词（ disyllable ）。比如： letter
多音节词 ----三个音节以上叫多音节。有三个或者三个以上的单词叫多音节词（ polysyllable ）。比如： pop`ula‘tion， congrat`ula’tion， tel‘ecommu`nica’tion， tomorrow [t?'m?r?u』单音节词的重音及读法单音节词多数是重读音节，标记读音时不
需要使用重读符号。如：
good [ɡud] luck [l?k]
man [m?n] come [k?m] in [in]
my [mai ] shop [??p] that [e?t]
boy [b?i] there [ee? ] us [?s]
双音节词的重音及读法双音节词的重音一般落在第一个音节上。如：sister [‘sist?] 、brother [’br?e?]等。
P.s. 如何划分音节：
1、在两个音节的相邻处有两个辅音字母时（r）除外。如：
let-ter Eng-lish ， ap-ple。
2、在两个音节的相邻处只有一个辅音字母时（辅音字母组合除外，如：ch,ck,sh,th),这种情况要借助字典。
多音节词的重音及读法多音节的词一般都是倒数第三个音节重读；三个音节的词当然就是第一个音节重读。如： secretary ['sekr?t?ri] passenger ['p?sind??]
