If it feels like you are the one doing most of housework in your home, it may be time to share it with your children. Giving kids chores(家庭杂务) not only helps you relax, but also encourages teamwork and discipline. They get to understand they are playing an important role in the family.
“Most of the problems here come from the words we use. There’s a big difference between ‘doing chores’ and just ‘helping out’ around the house.” says Sarah Ockwell, author of Toddler Calm. “Chores are a normal part of everyday life and it is important that children learn to understand this as young as possible. Children need to understand that they are expected to do something for all parts of family life,” she adds.
Chores may make them consider the time you spend on keeping the home clean and tidy. They may be a little more thoughtful to care about your work, perhaps even putting their dirty clothes in the washing basket rather than just put them on their bedroom floor.
Children are pretty egocentric, and they only think about themselves a lot of the time. However, they also like to receive praise for their actions. So doing chores gives them the chance to be helpful and do something for others but not just for themselves.
It’s good for a child’s self-esteem to be given a task to do, even if it’s making their beds. Chores give a child confidence in their own abilities and teach them skills they’ll need in later life, like using the washing machine and cleaning the toilet.
“It also teaches them responsibility, and how to look after themselves,” says Liz who’s also the author of Toddler Calm. “These are important life skills, not least in how to not be a spoiled, selfish child!”

Michael Jackson had been on the road of performing since he was five years old. For anyone who wants to know, the road to fame and fortune is a long, hard one to travel.
Michael Jackson remembered those early years when he was young. “My father was a machine operator,” he explained, “and he worked at a steel plant. My mother worked at Sears, a big department store. But they were both musicians.”
Mr. Jackson realized that his sons had a lot of talents, and he knew he could train them to become fine musicians. In those days there were plenty of music groups and some of them were very good. He knew if his sons were to stand out, they would have to be the best.
Practice makes perfect. And the Jackson boys practiced! Gradually the group took shape. When the Jacksons took their first professional jobs, their total pay was only five dollars! When Michael was eighteen, he entered another field of his career: acting. “I plan to star in movies,” he told his friends, “but of course, my first love is music.”
Michael wrote a lot of his own songs. “Songs came about in the strangest ways,” he said. “I’ll just wake up from sleeping and there is a whole song coming into my head. And then I put it down on the paper.” Whatever he did, it worked!
Still, with all his success, Michael managed to keep his head calm. “I just do a different job from other people,” he said, “but it doesn’t make me think I’m better than other people.”
To be quite honest, his fans just love to hear and watch him!

With a height of 8848.86 meters, Mount Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world. For mountaineering crazy lovers, to be able to climb Mount Qomolangma is no doubt the highest honor. But only a few have stood on the peak.
On May 24, Zhang Hong, a visually impaired (受损的) Chinese climber, reached the top of Qomolangma, becoming the first blind person from Asia ever to reach the world’s highest peak. He reached the top from the Nepali side, along with three high-altitude guides, the organizer of his expedition, Asian Trekking of Nepal, told Xinhua News Agency.
The thin air, narrow mountain path, high altitude and terrible climate are great challenges for people physically and mentally.
Zhang, who was born in Chongqing, lost his sight due to glaucoma (青光眼) at the age of 21. He now works at Fukang Hospital Affiliated with Tibet University in Lhasa. Even though he lost his eyesight at a young age, it didn’t kill the fire in his heart. Inspired by Lodro, a famous Tibetan climber who reached all the world’s 14 peaks above the altitude of 8,000 meters, Zhang became crazy about climbing, according to The Cover.
As a climber for years, Zhang had conquered three mountains above the altitude of 6,000 meters before climbing the world’s highest peak. He had begun preparing for the Qomolangma climb in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all mountaineering expeditions on Qomolangma were canceled in Nepal and China last year, and he had to wait until recently to finally make it.
According to expedition companies, there were strong winds on Qomolangma on the evening of May 23 and many had descended (下山) from the South Col (7,900 meters) to the base camp. But Zhang decided not to give up and continued his journey to the top.
“Many people may have doubted his great efforts at first, but I was confident in him from the beginning,” Kyila, the secretary of the Fukang Angel Foundation, who is also visually impaired, told China Daily. “He is a model for blind people to encourage them to chase their dreams.”
