My name is Cathy. I love singing opera. Even when I was a little girl, I dreamed of being an opera singer. I often sang with my hair brush as my microphone. My family is poor, and I never had any singing lessons. But I taught myself by listening to the radio and watching TV programs.
One year, our school organized a talent show. Some students wanted to tell jokes, and others wanted to dance. I wanted to sing, but I wasn't confident. "Maybe I'm not good enough to be a singer," I said to myself.
My teacher encouraged me to take part in the show. “Your voice sounds beautiful. Believe in yourself." I chose my favourite opera song and practiced every day.

The day of the talent show came. I waited and waited. Some students were really good. Their performances were excellent.“Would I sound good ” I felt alittle nervous.
Finally, it was my turn. I stood on the big stage. The lights were so bright, and there were so many people in front of me. I felt my heart beating so fast! Then is aw my teacher smiling and my friends waving at me. They were there with me! Slowly I began to relax. The music started and I began to sing. When my song was over, all of the students clapped loudly. They all loved it!
After the show, my friends came to see me. “Well done, Cathy! You will be a real opera singer someday.”

1. dream of 梦想着……;梦见……
dream of 可以和dream about互换,其后可以接名词、代词或动名词。
e.g. I dreamed about/of my teacher last night.
dream还可作名词,是可数名词,意思是“梦;梦想”。e.g. I had some strange dreams last night.

take part in 是惯用词组,part 前一般不用冠词。但part前有形容词修饰时,要用不定冠词。
e.g. Lincoln took an active part in political activities
and was strongly against slavery.

believe in 的用法:
(1) 信仰(宗教或神等)
e.g. He believes in God.
(2) 相信……的存在
e.g. Do you believe in ghosts

4. beat v.& n.跳动;敲打(声)
e.g. His heart is still beating.
beat的过去式与原形相同,过去分词为beaten。
e.g. He used to beat you.
当beat表示 “敲;打;击”时,常和at/on/upon连用。
e.g. Somebody was beating at the door.
