After Jack showed his hand-made guitar to his friend Ollie Gray, Ollie had the idea to form a band using other homemade instruments.
“We want to show people there is more to recycle than throw things away,” Jack, 17, said. Ollie, 16, plays the drums made from trash cans.
The Garbage-Men plays at local events around Sarasota, including festivals, farmer's markets and community charity events. They set up on the street and perform popular songs. Between shows, they talk about recycling and offer tips for how to help the environment.

Have you heard of a staycation It is a vacation spent at your home or somewhere in your hometown. It's the combination (组合) of the words “stay” and “vacation”. In recent years, it has become a popular trend. The word has even been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
This summer, my family and I had a staycation in Shanghai. We didn't go anywhere far away, but we still made two “accomplishments (成就)”.
The first thing I did was improving my ping-pong skills. I went to a two-week-long ping-pong camp. Every morning, I had to wake up at 6 a.m. and arrive at school for intensive (集中的) training that lasted for six hours. Our coach was Zhou Miaogen, who used to train many former world champions. He taught us many useful skills. I made new friends as well!
Also, we went to a nearby island called Shengsi in the East China Sea. We stayed in wooden (木制的) houses. There was a beach with crystal (清澈的) blue waters and golden sand right outside our window. The seafood there was very delicious. Every night, we walked along the beach. We also rented a jet ski (喷气式水艇) to ride in the sea. It was really exciting, especially when the waves dragged (拖动) us farther away from the shore (海岸).
After my staycation, I now understand why it is so popular. Sometimes, we don't need to go far away. As long as you make plans, you can still relax and have fun. Why not try it out

If you think spider webs are weak, think again! Spider webs are made of silk. That is one of the strongest materials. In fact, silk is stronger than the same amount of steel!
A spider produces a sticky liquid (液体)from its body. That liquid grows hard into a strong silk thread. Scientists are working to make silk that is as strong as a spider's.
What did scientists learn
“We use lots of different machines to see how spiders make their silk,” said scientist Chris Holland. “The machines can show us how strong the silk is. We recently discovered that to make silk like a spider's, we have to start with the right material. We have been using a material that is too runny. However, in the body of spiders, it is thick like mayonnaise (蛋黄酱),” Chris Holland said.
Scientists hope their work will help produce or make a kind of stronger silk. It may be used to make clothes that are strong but light in weight.

Spiders use silk in several important ways. A grass spider uses silk to make a home. An orb-weaver spider (圆蛛) makes a web to catch food. A female candy-stripe spider wraps (裹) silk around her eggs to protect them.
( )66.What can we know from the first paragraph

Do you dream of sitting in a flying car Your dream might come true soon. Scientists are making flying cars and the cars can fly themselves. It is said that they will be safer than regular cars.
Dubai is a city in the Middle East. People there could soon fly to work in air taxis. The Ehang 184 can fly for 30 minutes. It runs on battery power. Air-taxi riders use an App on their phones to ask for a flight.
The Ehang 184 is one of several new flying machines. Such machines are known as VTOLs. That stands for “Vertical Take-off and Landing.” VTOLs lift into the air with the help of electric fans. VTOLs are quieter and cleaner than helicopters (直升机).
In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is in charge of (负责) air transportation. The FAA must do many things before it can approve (批准) VTOL flights. It must make safety rules. It also needs to come up with traffic rules. They are needed to make sure low-flying crafts don't cause accidents.
The FAA has approved the testing of a VTOL called the Transition. It runs on gas. It travels on the ground and in the air. Its wings are folded up when the Transition is on the ground and they spread out in flight.

Tangchang, a town in Chengdu, is well-known for cloth shoes. With over 20 types, Tangchang cloth shoes are strong, comfortable, breathable and friendly to the environment. In 2018, they were added to Sichuan's intangible cultural heritage list(非物质文化遗产名录).
65-year-old Lai Shufang has spent over 40 years making Tangchang cloth shoes. Now she is a master. She said there are 32 steps to make a pair, but the most important step is making the soles.
Layers(层)of white cloth are glued together with flour paste (糨糊).“To make good paste, we make it at a temperature of 85℃. If it's too low or too high, the paste will not work, ” Lai said. Then the pasted layers are dried and cut into different shapes. After this, the layered cloth is beaten again and again until it is tight(紧实的)enough to make soles and upper parts. The next step is to shape the two parts and glue them together. But still the soles' edges look fluffy. Through repeated polishing and trimming, the fluffy edges (毛边) will become smooth. Then the cloth shoes are ready.
Lai's hard work touched her son Ai Peng. In 2015, Ai decided to leave his job and help his mother. He used Shu embroidery to make the shoes look more beautiful and opened a cloth shoe store online.
