My name is Jim. I am one of the workers here. I was on duty last night. I smelled something burning. When I went out, I saw smoke coming from the windows of the workshop (车间). I called 911 and our manager at once. And they both arrived quickly.
I'm Jeff, a firefighter. We drove to the factory as soon as we got the phone call at 1:47 a.m. We arrived at about 1:55 a.m and soon put it out. No one died or got hurt in the fire. It's dry these days. We think all the families and factories should be more careful.

Around 90 years ago, an article in a small Scottish newspaper started a mystery that's still unsolved today. The Inverness Courier reported that a local woman, named Aldie Mackay, had seen a “huge beast (怪兽)” in the waters of Loch Ness —a huge lake in the Scottish Highlands.
“The creature showed itself... its body which was similar to a whale. Soon, however, it disappeared. Besides its huge size, the beast sent out waves that were big enough to have been caused by a passing ship,” the article read.
Mackay's story brought the legend (传说) of the Loch Ness Monster into the public eye. However, there were many similar reports made as far back as the 7th century.
Since the article was published, there have been “over 1,000 eyewitnesses (目击者) accounts and lots of unexplained evidence (证据), leaving scientists confused (困惑的),” stated Scotland's official tourism website.
The look of the beast was different, but the common description is that it's a mix between a dinosaur and a dragon. Dragons are often scary, but the Loch Ness Monster is not the same.
Nessie, the beast's nickname, is actually a gentle giant. If you visit a local tourist spot, you will see smiling Nessie paintings and stuffed toys (毛绒玩具) in shop windows.
A local business even offers “Nessie hunting” trips, using boats fitted with high-tech sonar equipment (声纳设备). However, these are just for fun, and the guides will often tell funny stories to the passengers as they sail across the beautiful loch.
There is no real evidence to prove (证明) Nessie exists (存在), meanwhile, nothing to disprove it. So who's to say that we can't just enjoy the legend and go along for the ride

“If it rings one more time, I'll hang up (挂断),” Amy thought, as she waited for someone to answer. Apologizing (道歉) wasn't an easy thing to do.
“Hello,” a woman said. There was no backing out (退路).

“Yes, this is Missy's mother. Just a minute.”
In less than a minute, Missy was on the phone. “Hi, who's that calling ” she asked in a gentle voice.
“It's Amy. I just want to tell you that I'm sorry about what I said to you. I didn't really mean it,” Amy stopped, trying to think of what to say next.
“Thank you, Amy. Take it easy!”
“Missy, you're a very nice person. You're a lot nicer than I am!”
Missy laughed, “You're not so bad, Amy. By the way, I've got some good news. Mr. Grumbell said that you and me were the candidates (候选人) for monitor. Isn't that cool ”
Amy didn't think the news was cool. Missy was very popular. She'd get a lot of votes. Fortunately, Amy was in a good mood. “You'll be a tough opponent (强劲的对手) Missy,” she said. “May the best girl win.”
“Thanks, Amy,” Missy replied. “But you might even win.”

As a 22-year-old man, I was sitting on my mom's sofa and waiting for the pain in my back to ease. A lack (缺少) of work and money forced my wife, our baby boy and me to live with my parents. We slept in my old bedroom, and I was feeling down.
Thankfully, I had one new job: helping my son learn how to walk. Anytime he took a few steps, however, he would fall down and cry. I had to bend over and hold his hand while he walked along. But my back didn't deal with it too well.
As I sat there with my eyes closed, I suddenly heard my mother whisper: “Joe, look!” I opened my eyes and watched my son grab the coffee table, pull himself up and smile. Next with a giggle (格格地笑), he started walking around it, keeping his hands on it for balance. Finally, when he reached the end of it, he took two big steps and made it to the wall. Then he started walking down the hall with his hands balancing on the wall the whole way. I laughed and cheered. Suddenly, being unemployed (失业的) wasn't so bad, because my boy had learned to walk.
Learning to love in this world is a lot like first learning to walk. We often fall and cry. However, as long as we try again, we will find our own feet and know how to love. Don't be afraid to step out. Don't be afraid to fall.

B.Life is not easy for people who have no jobs.
C.Failure is not terrible if you try hard to start again.
D.Fathers and sons are likely to get along well.
E
People say laughter is the best medicine, but sometimes too much of a good thing may not be so good. What happened to me last night made me deeply understand the meaning of that.
Last night I was alone at home. When I was watching a funny movie, I suddenly started laughing and couldn't stop myself.
At first, I was feeling good. But after about 5 minutes, I came to know I wasn't going to stop at all. I began to feel a little worried. When it is time for bed, I couldn't sleep because I kept laughing. So I got up and started doing some housework. I cleaned my apartment, laughing hard. I washed all the dishes left over from dinner, still laughing crazily. I tried to hold my cat in my arms, but it ran away from me in fear. I spent the rest of the night in front of my computer, of course, still laughing.
When it was time to get ready for work, . I decided to call my boss for leave, but laughing was the only thing I could do on the phone.
After listening to my “lovely” laughter for a few minutes, my boss couldn't help shouting angrily. “Are you mad You're fired (解雇)!”

June 7th, Tuesday, Sunny
I got up late this morning because my alarm clock didn't go off. I had to wash my face quickly and ran to the bus stop without breakfast. By the time I got there, the school bus had already gone. I had no choice but to walk to school. Finally, when I got to school, it was 9:10 a.m. I was late for class. What's worse, I found I had left my homework at home when my teacher asked for it. What a bad day it was!
