Hundreds of years ago, a great king called Alfred ruled (统治) England. He was famous for being brave and clever.

Alfred was very tired when he finally reached a small island. There, he found a house made of wood. A fire was burning outside, so he went inside to warm himself.
"Who are you " asked an unwelcoming voice.
The king turned around in surprise! An old lady with dirty hair was looking at him.
Alfred wasn't sure what to say. He wanted to tell the woman that he was her king ... but would she then betray (背叛) him to the Danes
Finally, he said, "I am just a poor traveller, lost in the swamp. Could you give me food. and cover "
The woman said, "I think I could. But you have to help me around the house!"
She gave Alfred a wooden bowl of fish for dinner. It was very different from the food he usually ate — but he was very hungry, and ate everything up.
Alfred stayed with the old woman and helped her. He cut reeds (芦苇) to put on the floor of the house and repaired her fishing nets (网). He never did this kind of work before, and the old woman complained when he made mistakes.
One day, she made some cakes and put them to bake (烘焙) over the fire.
"Watch these cakes for me!" she told him. "Don't let them burn!"
Alfred sat by the fire and poked (戳) the cakes with a stick.
"I hate this old woman telling me what to do!" he said. "I am a king, and I need to take back my kingdom!"
Alfred thought about how he could lead his people to fight with the Danes. Just then he smelled something burning, and heard the old woman shouting at him!
"I told you to be careful!" she shouted. "Those cakes are burnt!" She was right. The cakes on the fire were black and couldn't be eaten!
Alfred was quite sad. "Be quiet!" he shouted. "I am your king, and I am thinking about how to take back my kingdom from the Danes.
"You The king of England "
Alfred nodded.
"Well, that's no excuse (借口) for burning my nice cakes!"

A letter from 2070
Hi, This is the year.2070. I am 50 years old, but I look like a person of 85. I have serious kidney (肾脏) problems because I don't have enough water to drink. I'm afraid I don't have much time left to live. I am already one of the oldest people in this society. I remember when I was five years old, everything was very different. There were lots of trees in the parks. I could enjoy a shower for half an hour. At that time, women had beautiful hair. Now, we have to shave (剃去…的毛发) our heads to keep them clean without the use of water. I remember there were "Save Water" warnings (警古) in many public places, but nobody cared. We believed water would never be used up. Now, all the rivers and lakes are dry or dirty. Water is much more expensive than gold (金子). Without water, almost all factories are closed. Most people lose their jobs. Those who have a job work in desalination (海水脱盐) plants and are paid with drinkable water instead of money. In the past, doctors advised people to drink eight glasses of water a day. Now, I can only have half a glass. Most people are weak. Young people in their early 20s look much older than they should be. Because there are few trees, we don't have enough oxygen (氧气). We have to pay for air. The air is not of very good quality, but at least we can breathe. Poor people die young. The average life expectancy (预期寿命) is 40 years. When my son asks me about my life when I was a little girl, I tell him about how happy it was to fish in the rivers and how healthy people were. When he asks, "Why is there no clean water now ", I feel really sorry. I am one of the generation (一代人) who turned a blind (瞎的) eye to all the "Save Water" warnings. I wish this letter could travel back in time and it would make people living in the 2020s truly understand the importance of saving water.

A few restaurants still have some wild animals as delicious food on the table. I think it's really cruel and terrible. Wild animals are an important part of our ecosystem. We should protect them instead of eating them.
As a wildlife lover, I can do many things to protect them. For example, I can join wildlife protection organizations and take part in their activities. I can also spread the knowledge about wildlife protection to more people through social media or public speeches. I believe that if more people understand the importance of protecting wildlife, they will take action to protect them.
In addition, I think it's important to teach people how to live together with animals peacefully. We can start by respecting their habitats and not destroying them. We can also avoid using products that are made from endangered animals. By doing these things, we can create a better world for both humans and animals.
