该板块的阅读语篇是一篇说明文。文章按照时间顺序介绍了人类探索太空的历史,共五个段落,分别叙述了以下内容:(1)人类一直对未知的太空充满了好奇心;(2)从20世纪中期开始,美国和苏联在太空探索领域取得了举止瞩目的成就;(3)尽管遭遇了一些挫折和灾难,通往太空之路也充满艰险,但人类探索太空的脚步会越迈越远,前途也将是一片光明。除了举例一些著名的历史性事件以外,文章还对科学家和宇航员们不畏困难、刻苦钻研、勇于重担、无私奉献的精神表达出赞美之情。
