Have you ever experienced something unforgettable
Last year, I went through a terrible storm and felt the power of nature.
That day, black clouds were making the sky very dark like midnight and I could hear strong winds blowing outside my home in Alabama. Everyone in the neighborhood was busy. My dad was putting pieces of wood over the windows while my mom was making sure the flashlights and radio were working. She also put some candles and matches on the table.
I was helping my mom make dinner when the rain began to beat heavily against the windows. After dinner, we tried to play a card game, but it was hard to have fun with a serious storm happening outside.
I could not sleep at first. I finally fell asleep when the wind was dying down at around 3:00 a.m. When I woke up, the sun was rising. I went outside with my family and found the outside world was quite different. Fallen trees, broken windows and rubbish were everywhere. We joined the neighbors to help clean up the neighborhood together. I have learnt a lesson from this. We should work together to face difficulties.

A man was carrying a woman on his back through the flooded (洪水浸没的) area during a period of high water in Venice in November, 2019. For the people there, it is common to face high water problems during the colder months of the year. But they were facing the worst flooding in 50 years at that time.
Luckily, all the country took action to help Venice get out of trouble. People were raising money to help with the cleaning up after the floods. Some cooks even started donating (捐赠)some food. A special boat with food and medicine set off on Saturday for people in Venice. At the same time, some people were doing a project (项目) called Moses to stop flooding.
People might ask why the flood happened. In fact, climate (气候) change played a part. High wind, heavy rain and rising sea levels (海平面)all have to do with climate change. One prediction is that Venice will be under water by 2100. And not just Venice, large cities by the sea such as Hamburg, Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York would also have to face the problem that their large parts would probably be below the sea level.
Although some people refuse to believe the danger of climate change, Venice is adding evidence(证据) to that. We need to deal with it at once and try to protect our planet.
16.What did people do after the flood
A.They left the city at once.
B.They sold fish to the cooks there.
C.They sent food and medicine by boat.

D.Venice had the worst flooding in 50 years.
18.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.High water problems are common in November in Venice.
B.Most people don’t believe the danger of flooding.

How do you greet your friends People from different cultures have different answers: shaking hands, nodding, bowing, and kissing on the face. But have you ever wondered how animals “say hello” to each other Here are some examples.
Everyone knows how similar chimpanzees (黑猩猩) are to humans. So it’s no surprise that their greetings are also close to ours. The most common ways of greeting between chimpanzees are hand touching and hugging. Sometimes they also kiss each other. Some chimpanzees can even learn simple sign language.
Giraffes seldom make loud sounds. Their necks can reach two meters in length, making them useful in greeting each other. When two giraffes meet, they may “shake” their necks and rub (摩擦) them against each other. This is to feel how strong and tall the other is.
Dolphins greet one another with whistles (哨声). They can hear other dolphins from many kilometers away. Every dolphin has a different whistle. When two groups of dolphins meet, they each choose a member to “talk” to the other group. The two groups can then travel together. Unlike most other animals, dolphins are smart enough to learn a new language by inventing and copying new sounds.

After Wang Hong saw it, she picked up the branches on the ground and then moved the trunk again. But the trunk was so heavy that she couldn’t move it by herself. When other people saw what she was doing, they were moved by her and came to help her. Finally, they succeeded in moving the trunk away.
I think she is a very kind person. And from this story, I learn that we should offer to help when someone needs help. It not only helps others but also makes us happy.
