Thinking Quality Under the teacher’s guide, most students will be able to ask for permission with the proper sentence structure.
Learning Ability Through this period, most students will be able to improve their reading abilities and train the students’ cooperation with their partners.
重点 1.Learn and review some important phrases and target languages. 2.Review how to make polite requests how to ask permissions politely. 3.Read the letters carefully and surf the Internet, try to find out more reasons to support their idea, and then debate.
难点 1.Enable students to understand the main idea of the passage 2.Learn how to find the main idea of the passage by skimming and saying their opinions about doing chores.
教学过程 集体研讨
Step1 Lead in Quick minds Look at the picture and find the main character: The story between sister and brother/Nancy and her mother. These stories are about:chores. Free talk T:What chores can we do S:We can take out the rubbish/do the dishes... Let students review phrases they have learnt. T:What about you What do you do to help your mom at home When you do chores, what’s your feeling Is that you Do you think children should help out with chores What are parents’ idea Let read the passage together.
Step2 While reading Skimming Ask Ss to skim the two letters. Which one agrees and which one disagrees (Tip: This means looking quickly through a piece of writing to find the main idea without reading every word. It is a good idea to read the first sentence in each paragraph a little more carefully.) Scanning 1)First, ask Ss to scan the letters carefully and finish the form in 2c. Pros. Doing chores helps to develop children’s independence. It teaches them how to look after themselves. It helps them to understand the idea of fairness. It is good for their future. Cons. Children already have enough stress from school. Housework is a waste of children’s time. They have no time to study and do housework. Their job now is to be students. They will do housework in the future. It is the parents’ job to provide a clean and comfortable environment at home for their children. Then, Read the letters and finish the following tasks. Q1:Why does Ms.Miller think there is no need for kids to do chores now Q2:Mr. Smith thinks these days children depend on _________________. Q3:Ms. Miller thinks doing chores is not difficult. T or F Q4:Mr. Smith’s neighbors’ son looked after himself well during his first year in the college. T or F After that, guide Ss to find the phrases in 2d, using the words to make sentences. Step3 Post reading Make a summary 2.Jigsaw (拼图游戏) Mind- map of the letters.
3.Debate Competition. Divide Ss into 2 parts, one agrees Ms Miller,(Kids shouldn’t do chores.)the other agrees Mr Smith.( Kids should do chores.) Ss express their own opinions, the group which has more opinions is the winner. The teacher give some tips for the debate. Step4 Summary Anyway, when we are free , we should try to help our parents do some chores. After all, it’s not easy for our parents to work all day and do chores all night. Step5 Homework Ask your parents if you should do chores, and write down your parents’ opinions.
