When a person in the United States gets the COVID-19 vaccine ( 疫苗 ), the person receives a small piece of paper called a “COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card”.
It is a piece of paper with the logo of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, and the name and date of the vaccine. Because it is so simple, it could be easy to fake.
Many people in the U.S. are still unsure about getting the vaccine. As universities, workplaces and other places are requiring proof of vaccination, some people are now buying fake vaccination cards without getting a shot.
The Associated Press reports that students and teachers at universities around the U.S. are worried about fake cards. Sellers are using social media apps like Instagram to advertise fake vaccination cards. The prices range from $25 to $200. The AP notes that many college students seem interested in buying the cards. On the site Reddit, one person wrote, “I need one, too, for college. I refuse to be a guinea pig.”
It is reported that more than 700 universities and colleges require proof of vaccination. Most schools simply ask their students to take a photo of their card and send it to a school website. Benjamin Mason Meier is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, UNC. He studies international health policy. He said, unlike some countries, the U.S. is not using a digital system to record vaccine status. He said the U.S. is depending on “a flimsy paper card”, and students have told him they knew of others who had used fake vaccination cards. Rebecca Williams also works at UNC. She is a researcher at the school’s Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. She said she was not surprised that people were worried about fake vaccination cards. “This is why I think the development of a reliable national digital vaccine passport app is very important,” she said.
There is a law that should prevent people from making false vaccination cards. If someone uses the CDC logo without permission, they can be fined and punished by up to five years in prison. The U.S. Department of Justice recently charged a person in California with making fake vaccination cards.
College students who already have the vaccine are criticizing those who would rather spend money to buy a fake than get a free shot. Maliha Reza is an electrical engineering student at Pennsylvania State University, She called those students “dumb”. “I’m angry about that,” she said. “Like, there is more anger than I could describe now.”
Why do some college students buy fake vaccination cards
A. They are easy to get.
Many Americans are still uncertain about getting the vaccine.
C. Students have an interest in the fake vaccination cards.
D. To get a vaccine shot is expensive.
Which of the following measures can NOT be used to stop the fake cards
A. Having a law that should prevent people from making false vaccination cards.
B. Developing a reliable national digital vaccine passport app.
C. Using a digital system to record vaccine status.
D. Having all the students take a photo of their vaccination card and send it to the school website.
What does the underlined word “flimsy” probably mean
A. Weak. B. Effective. C. Detailed. D. Professional,
What might be the writing purpose for the news report
A. To promote a digital system to record the vaccination shots.
B. To explain why the U.S. should prevent making the fake vaccination cards.
C. To stress the influence of the COVID-19 vaccination.
D. To reduce the U.S. university leaders’ worry about fake vaccination cards.
C
In my son’s room, there are two world maps — one large paper map of the world, and one cartoonish version with small pictures of animals and names. The second one arrived with a dry-erase marker, and my son and his friends have put that to use, “decorating” it with humorous words. It’s a map only an 8-year-old could love.
But underneath the funny writing, there is learning going on. He has learned where China sits in relation to the US on the map, and knows that Togo is a real country. He knows that Alaska looks like it is part of Canada, connecting us with our neighbors to the north.
He hasn’t traveled out of the country yet, but that is my goal for him ... to know and experience other cultures outside of his own through maps, and through traveling in the future. I want him to understand that all countries in the world are wonderful and influential in their own ways.
“Travel changes you,” said the late world-traveling chef(厨师)Anthony Bourdain. “As you move through this life and this world, you change things and you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life — as well as travel — leaves marks on you.”
Travel isn’t cheap, though, and not all families have the means to take their kids on a 10-country trip to Europe in the summer. Some families can’t even afford to take their kids out of their home city.
Even if you don’t have money to travel, get your kids a map. Get a subscription ( 订阅 ) to National Geographic (or go to the library and get them there). Learn a language together. Host an exchange student.
Consider opening your kids’ minds by exposing ( 使接触 ) them to different languages, foods, sights, etc. The earlier, the better. Because if we introduce children to people, places, and things that are different from what they know, they will be less afraid. They will be more understanding. And they’ll be more likely to reach out across any divide and improve the world for the future.
28. What does the author want her son to do by reading maps
A. To simply have fun. B. To become open-minded.
C. To get high grades in geography. D. To develop an interest in traveling.
29. According to the author, compared with travel, reading maps ________.
A. teaches people very little B. is the only choice of the poor
C. is a special form of traveling D. can be a little boring but meaningful
30. How does the author explain the influence of traveling
A. By giving explanations. B. By providing examples.
C. By making comparisons. D. By using someone’s words.
31. What’s the main purpose of this text
A. To show how to read maps. B. To give advice on parenting.
C. To encourage people to travel. D. To discuss different types of parenting.
D
Have you ever left a movie theater with a mixed feeling about what you just watched No Well, you definitely haven't seen the movie “Nope (不).” This 2022 movie is a sci-fi horror. But despite having the amazing director Jordan Peele and the wonderful actors, this film still manages to be the worst I've ever seen.
In the movie “Nope," it shows us a western 1998 setting where we follow a brother, OJ, and a sister, Emerald Haywood. Emerald is a fun and entertaining woman, while OJis shy but outspoken when necessary. They run a large horse farm. They observe something mysterious in the sky, which they later learn is a UFO. This UFO is eating people who are watching horse races. To help their horse farm, they try their best to beat the monster.
Daniel Kaluuya is a good actor and has experienced playing in horror movies. In the movie, he did a good job at playing the role of OJ until he took a turn for the worse, going from a shy person to a hero who leads his group to success without any visible (可见的)growth. That makes his character challenging for the audience to understand. I love Keke Palmer's humor and energy in the movie, but it gets to a point where she is too active, which makes her character Emerald unpleasant.
Many scenes in the movie are extended not to create suspense (悬念) but simply to add screen time. That makes the two hours feel like four. There are many storylines that end as quickly as they begin, with seemingly no point. The film is a far cry from horror and suspense. It is just an alien story with some seeming scares in between. Jordan Peele tried to make the movie symbolic, which made him blind to the idea that movies are supposed to be entertaining to watch.
This movie is not for you if you are a true suspense and horror fan. If you ask me if you should watch it or not, I'd say “Nope.”
32. What do you know about the movie
A. It is a western film. B. It is the worst movie.
C. It is set in ancient times. D. It is popular with horror fans.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The response of the audience. B. The suggestion on the acting.
C.The comparison of the actors. D. The opinion on the characters.
34. What is the main reason for the movie's failure according to paragraph 4
A. The long period. B. The wrong director.
C. The worthless plots. D. The old-fashioned theme.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A. "Nope" is a nope for me B. What an entertaining film!
C. Jordan Peele's new movie D.Should a horror be horrible
We all want to make lasting changes to our daily behaviors from time to time—perhaps exercise more or spend less time on our phones before bed. But how long does it take to build a habit
____36____ This number first appeared in a book by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. He reported that his patients needed at least 21 days to change the mental image of how they looked.
Since then, many people have applied the “21-day rule” to all habits. ____37____ Some may need more than three weeks to become habits.
How long it takes to form a new habit may depend on the habit, on you, and on what methods you’re using to build and maintain it. Studies have shown that habit formation may take anywhere between 18 and 254 days. The average amount of time needed for a behavior to become a habit is 66 days. ____38____ For example, those who were asked to develop a habit of drinking a glass of water at breakfast tended to be more successful than those who were asked to do 50 sit-ups each day.
In addition, self-efficacy (自我效能感) is the key to developing and maintaining habits. ____39____ Put simply, a person who doesn’t think he can maintain new behaviors will be less likely to keep his habit,
It’s also important to make a goal more attractive. Mark Vahrmeyer, a doctor who helps people deal with mental health problems, says,“If the process of building your habit involves nothing but self-sacrifice (自我牺牲) with no reward, you are unlikely to stick to your goals.” ____40____ For example, if the goal is to go to the gym three times a week, a person should pick a gym with a convenient location.
A. A popular answer is 21 days.
B. It’s also important to repeat a habit.
C. However, not all behaviors are the same.
D. Habits are the small decisions you make every day.
E. He also advises making the process as easy as possible.
F. And different actions require a different level of effort too.
G. It’s a belief in one’s ability to complete a task or achieve a goal.

Mom and Dad would be on a four-day business trip. On the very morning before the parents left, Mom kissed both the children and said to Daniel gently, “Young man, do take care of Spot and your sisiter Jane.” Daniel promised, “I will, Mom.”
Too excited to fall asleep again, Daniel and Jane jumped out of bed, calling out each other to get up. Their pet dog, Spot, heard the similar voice and rushed in, with a ball in its mouth. Jane stuck(伸) her head into Daniel’s room,“Spot got up an hour earlier. Let’s walk it.” Daniel said excitedly, “I’m coming, but, Jane, don’t forget to keep your room clean and tidy.” “I will.”
They ran with the dog in the yard and threw the ball away for Spot to bring it back. They had fun playing with Spot the whole morning. Washing Spot was slow and tiring as it was the first time they had done it. Then Daniel settled down to his homework while Jane did her reading with interest.
The following day, Jane begged her brother to order pizza for lunch with the money left on the table. Daniel agreed excitedly, “We haven’t tasted that for long and we behave ourselves, right ”After a while, he added, “We should save money, too.” Within half an hour, they treated themselves to a big pizza. However, in the afternoon, Spot looked sick, lying lazily and unwilling to move. Daniel was concerned about the dog and took it to the pet clinic immediately with Jane as their parents had done.
When Dad and Mom arrived a day earlier, they were amazed to find everything in a mess. Mom was angry and shouted, “Listen to me, young man—I left you in charge. 本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是中国书法艺术似乎正在逐渐消失的影响。
56.考查定语从句。句意:当我想到中国文化的美丽和魅力时,首先进入我脑海的是复杂的中国书法图像。分析句子结构可知,空格处引导的是定语从句,从句中缺少主语,先行词things是物,且被序数词first修饰,因此空格处用关系代词that引导该定语从句,故填that。
57.考查不定式。句意:不幸的是,中国书法艺术似乎正在逐渐消失。seem to do是固定短语,意为“似乎做某事”,因此空格处是to be。故填to be。
It is said that...
spend some time doing是固定短语,意为“花费时间做某事”,因此空格处是动名词teaching,故填teaching。
由“for thousands of years”可知,句子时态用现在完成时或现在完成进行时,主语“The written form of the Chinese language”是单数概念,因此空格处是has carried/has been carrying。故填has carried/has been carrying。

Dear Tom,
I am sorry to hear your tense parent-child relationship and thank you for your trust. The truth is that everyone will have one of those periods when things seem to be going wrong. As for the problem, I’d like to share my opinions with you.
To begin with, you’d better have honest communication with your parents, which will allow both parties to stand in the others shoes. What’s more, it would be a good idea if you take part in family activities regularly. Last but not least, you should not quarrel with them whenever you disagree with them, for that only makes matters worse. The family should be the place of love and laughter.
I believe if you follow my advice, you will get along well with your parents.
Yours,
Li Hua
Daniel ran into his room, with tears in his eyes. Jane explained anxiously, “Mum, Spot is sick, so we spent the rest of the money taking it to the pet clinic.”“ Jane, there is no need to explain and Mom won’t trust us.” “There is probably a good explanation for everything.” said Dad calmly to comfort Mom. Hearing the words, Mom understood that the reason why they had no time to clean the house was that they waited for Spot at the clinic all day. Mom regretted acting so angrily and was satisfied that Daniel learnt to be responsible for others. She apologized to Daniel sincerely and hugged him in her arms, saying that “you are really growing up into a young man.”
