Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material
This unit carried out various teaching activities about the topic “robots” and the reading passage “satisfaction guaranteed” is a science fiction published in 1951 by Isaac Asimov, which presents a story that the heroine, Claire , fell in love with Tony, a household robot which was tested out in Claire ’s house .Meanwhile, it described how Claire’s feelings towards Tony changed during Tony’s stay at her house. By studying it, it can arouse the students’ interests in robot and motivate their enthusiasm for science as well as cultivate their spirit of exploring future world and rich imagination. So this lesson is very important in this unit. If the Ss can master it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of this unit.
Part 2 Analysis of the students
My students in grade 2 are active in thoughts and curious about outside world. They show great interest in science , especially for robots. They have accumulated a certain number of vocabularies and mastered some learning strategies and skills with preliminary ability of speaking and writing. So it is not difficult for them to understand the plot of the story. However, they lack scientific reading skills and deep thinking. They may have difficulty in grasping Claire’s feelings in her inner heart accurately and quickly. At the same time, the difference in students’ personality and English proficiency are very large, so I will design my lesson step by step to meet the needs of different students and let students preview the passage well and make full use of online resources about robots.

2 Present photos of different kinds of robots

Ask students to look through the passage quickly and finish two tasks
1 write a summary of the whole passage in about 30 words.
2 Find the main characters in the story and their relationship

1 Tony, a household robot, was tested out in Claire’s family. Claire gradually fell in love with Tony because he was such a perfect man, which caused the robot to be rebuilt
Explanation: The reading passage is a science fiction. When we make a summary of this kind of passage, we may refer to the following factors when, where, who, why, how, what and result.

4.Write a paragraph describing the robot with the help of two writing samples for self-study.
Purpose: “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss’ ability of communication co-operation and cultivate their creativity and rich imagination.
Step5.Assessment
Exchange group works with each other and evaluate them from several detailed aspects and give specific marks to certain groups. After class, hand in the works and the teacher will exhibit them on panel.

Purpose of my design is to focus on every student and evaluate them equally. Moreover, encourage them to learn cooperatively and discover their own strengths and weaknesses. Exhibiting students’ works on panel can arouse students’ sense of success
Ste6 Speaking activity(Group work ,__10__min)
The robots have been tested out successfully. If you are the salesman of a company , you will have an interview with the customers who want to buy the robots. Please introduce and promote it and the customers may ask you any questions about your robot
Purpose: Total Situational Action can be used here to create an active and emotional sceneries in English , arouse students’ learning desire and thinking in English and encourage them to put what they learned in to practice. Moreover students can practice their spoken language.
Step7 conclusion of the class(1min)
The teacher should draw a conclusion of this class. The students should grasp what Tony did to help Claire and how her emotion developed during Tony’s stay at her house apart from having a better understanding of the story and robots. Most importantly, the students should develop their reading ability and master scientific reading skills .
Purpose: To make students clearly know what they have learned and what they should master

4 Two Examples for self-study:

I name the robot helper. It is about the size of a table tennis so that a student can put it in a school bag. When children tell helper their trouble in doing their homework, it can guide them to find the best way to solve the problem. If they make any mistakes in their homework, Helper will tell them about the mistakes as well as help them correct them. With the help of Helper, children will find it easy to do their homework faster and better.

Self-reflection on teaching

According to the new standard curriculum and modern social communication teaching theories, this class reflects the teaching methods of Task-based learning, cooperative learning and Total Situational Action. It is designed step by step not confined to teaching material but above it, meeting the needs of different students. Because of students’ different characteristics of language learning, the teacher adopted various teaching methods and interactive teaching activities between teacher and students or among students to stimulate the students’ interest and enthusiasm. Its advantages are as follows. Firstly, leading-in is very novel, including mini boxing robot’s performance and introduction of different types of robots as well as watching video clips about robot. It leaves students a direct impression on robots ,arousing students’ background knowledge and activating their enthusiasm and interest in robot. Secondly, this class breaks through the traditional classroom-teaching model to finish all kinds of reading. Teacher makes use of the Japanese TV play which presents a love story between human being and robot to lead in the reading passage and develop the students’ reading ability by completing different exercises, such as, making a summary, filling in blanks, judging True or False, ranking and retelling . Meanwhile, the teacher guides them to master reading skills, improve their reading abilities and pay more attention to inspiring students’ deep thinking and guiding students to draw the conclusion by themselves. The form of Choosing lucky number and additional question arouses the students’ awareness of competition and cooperation, bringing the enjoyments to the class. So students can study happily. This class is student-centered and teacher-guided and the teacher successfully creates a harmonious and active teaching atmosphere so that students can express themselves freely, participate in it actively and focus their attention on the class. Moreover, the preview task is made to design a robot by students and write an introduction of robot by means of studying two writing samples on their own to improve students’ writing ability. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss’ ability of communication co-operation and cultivate their creativity and rich imagination. Evaluating students’ works among groups according to the certain rules and exhibiting them on the panel arouse students’ sense of success. In speaking activity, total Situational Action is used here to create an active and emotional sceneries in English and arouse students’ learning desire and thinking in English. Most importantly, promoting the robots encourages them to put what they learned in to practice and improve students’ speaking ability. Lastly. the teacher perfectly completed the whole teaching procedure. Generally speaking, the students can master what they should learn and the activities can face all the students, stimulate their deep thinking and emotional engagement and develop their ability of cooperation and creativity. However , there are the following points which can be improved .This class covers a large amount of information ,especially for the students who have trouble in English learning .So the teacher should pay attention to observing their situation , guide them to use proper learning methods and encourage them to participate in the class more.

董丽老师的这堂课是非常成功的,是值得我们大家学习的典范课例。她声音洪亮、有节奏感,口语流利,发音标准,语言富有感染力,字体美观,板书布局合理,举止大方,亲切自然,热情洋溢,教学基本功非常扎实。尤其是课堂构思新颖,创意层出不穷,不拘泥于传统的课堂教学模式,充分体现了新课标的教学理念,给我留下了深刻的印象。这堂课组织严密而且精心设计,不难看出董老师在课前定然是做了充分的准备,教学目标的设定符合三维目标的要求,教学内容来自于教材却又不拘泥于教材,教学过程由浅入深,环环相扣,精彩有趣,启发引导性强,充分调动了学生学习积极性和主动性。这堂课有以下几大亮点,首先,课堂导入新颖,引人入胜,拳击机器人表演,各种类型机器人介绍以及机器人电影及图片的展示充分的激发了学生的兴趣,唤醒了他们的背景知识,给予学生视觉上的直观刺激,调动了学习英语的积极性。其次,运用日本有关机器人与人类爱情的电视剧巧妙的导入课文,并根据学生的实际情况设计了各种形式,不同难度的练习,如,做摘要,填表格,问答题,排序及判断真假和复述课文等等,使学生能够逐步深入阅读,练习由浅入深,由易到难,由表及里,有效地提升了学生的各项阅读技能及技巧。同时注意指导学生使用适当的学习技巧及方法,对于学生的引导也是恰到好处,并不是直接给出问题的答案,而是给予学生充分的时间,激发他们的深层思考,提供线索引导学生自己得出正确答案。最令人耳目一新的是她突破了传统阅读课堂的模式,采用选择幸运数字及附加题的方式,开展小组竞争,在训练学生阅读能力的同时,提升了课堂的趣味性,激发了学生的热情和竞争意识。再次,课堂气氛非常和谐活跃,师生互动,生生互动,把学生的注意力紧紧集中在课堂上,学生快乐地学习并掌握知识。充分地体现了学生为主体,教师为主导,师生平等交流的新课标的教学思想。课前预习,让学生自己设计机器人并且通过两篇写作范文自学完成机器人介绍,锻炼了学生的写作能力和动手能力,激发了学生的创造性和丰富的想象力,培养了学生的交流与合作能力。并且对于学生创造的作品实行组组交换,按着评分标准,实行学生间的互评,课后将作品在展板上展示又激发了学生的成功感。最后,口语表达环节中介绍并推销自己设计的机器人,在情境教学模式中培养学生分析问题以及解决生活中实际问题的能力,鼓励学生用英语思维思考,学以致用,训练并提高了学生的口语表达能力。另外,有两点值得改进的地方,课堂刚开始时,语速稍有点快,但很快的调整了过来,课件有一张字体颜色不是很恰当。总体说来,这堂课生动有趣,创意层出不穷,教学方法新颖,运用不同的形式锻炼了学生的听说读写等多方面的能力并成功地完成了设定的教学目标,突破了重难点,训练了多种阅读技能并与实际生活相联系,促进学生分析问题,解决问题的能力,使他们情感和认识得到了升华。这是一堂非常成功的课。
