It was late at night. I was home with my father and my brother when my mother was still at work.
When Dad took us to bed, I ran up first to hide behind my bedroom door. Here was my plan: to jump out and scare my brother. My bedroom was just opposite the bathroom and he had to walk past it to get to his room.
However, behind the door were two strange men hiding. One had long hair, and the other was thin and tall. The man with long hair spoke to me in a low voice, “Go away.” I calmly (冷静地) went away and slept with my dad. This wasn’t uncommon for me on the nights when my mother worked, so he didn’t question it. I was so afraid that I didn’t tell him what I saw.
We got robbed (抢劫). When Mom came home the next morning, it was a mess downstairs (楼下). She ran upstairs and found us all in bed safe and sound. Then she called the police who arrived 10 minutes later. Just then, I was brave enough to tell everything.
To my surprise, my parents didn’t even point the finger at me. They said what I did was completely right. “You should always keep yourself safe first when you get caught up in something like this,” Mom said.

According to a study, in primary schools in the UK, almost two thirds of students go to or back from school by car and 26% usually walk. And about 7% take a bus, while 1% ride. From it, we see that the students fail to get enough exercise. To improve the situation, there have been some activities. Walk to School Week is among them.
Falling in the third week of May each year, Walk to School Week was started by the UK charity (慈善组织) Living Streets to help more kids get out of the car and walk to school. They have prizes for children to collect when they walk to school. And wheelchair (轮椅) users can also join in the fun.
This year’s theme for Walk to School Week is “Walk with Wildlife”. It encourages children to travel actively to school every day of the week, meeting different animals along the way and learning about why to walk.
Walking to school is a good way to get active and healthy. On the way, children can learn some road safety skills. Besides, they can meet their classmates and talk with them sometimes or even make new friends.

Technology has greatly changed our life in many ways. In the past, it was impossible for us to take a train or plane without holding the tickets in our hands. But
now, thanks to technology, we can travel freely by scanning (扫描) our faces, ID cards or QR codes.
A subway line in Beijing allows passengers to walk into and out of stations by just scanning the palm (手掌) of a hand. It is the first subway line that offers people the palm scanning service in the world. To use the service, passengers need to register (注册) their palm prints and online payment information on the Internet. They can do it at any subway station along the Daxing Airport Metro Line. Passengers aged 14 and above can use the service.
“It’s convenient. Passengers only need to place a palm above the scanning machine when walking into and out of a subway station. The machine will scan their palms and open the gate by itself. What’s more, it needs no body contact (接触), so it is much quicker and safer than traditional check-in ways,” said Zhang Li, an expert at the Beijing Metro Network Control Center.
The service is very friendly to many people. It can help passengers who forget to bring their subway cards. It can also help those who can’t use mobile phones.
In the future, the palm scanning service will be improved and offered at other places such as offices, schools and restaurants.

【参考范文】
How I’ve changed
In the past few years, I’ve changed a lot both physically and mentally.
To be honest, I was once thin and short, so I took up sports to deal with it. Now I look strong and tall, and I’m even on the school basketball team. Also, I used to be afraid of the dark, but now I dare to stay at home alone at night when my parents are away on business. Then comes my biggest change. In the past, I thought that studying was quite boring and hard, so I was not interested in it. Slowly, I came to realize that studying hard was the only way to success. So I’m always trying my best to study hard for a better future now.
In a word, I’m happy about my changes. I’m so proud that I’m becoming a better person day by day.
