This section includes Reading and Writing. The form consists of an introduction to Chinatown in San Francisco. The Writing part aims to develop students’ ability to logically introduce a place with distinctive cultural identity. Introducing Chinatown aims to show that Chinese culture plays an important role in the diverse culture of the USA. Chinatown is a spiritual centre for overseas Chinese and a place to spread Chinese culture. The introduction covers location, climate, history, ethnic groups, languages, famous figure, tourist attractions, famous food or drink, and business. As to the ending part of the introduction, it is effective because it emphasizes the significance of Chinatown again and appeals to the readers’ emotions successfully. Through reading, students will learn to describe a place with distinctive cultural identity clearly and logically;they will also develop their critical thinking in the reading and writing process.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the class, students will be able to:
