理解运用because/so 引导的状语从句介绍英雄人物。

【探究问题】because和because of它们的用法有什么区别?
(1)because 用作连词,意思是“因为”,常用来回答疑问词why提出的问题。
如:Because I was ill, I didn’t go to school yesterday.
因为我病了,所以昨天我没去上学。
【拓展】because of 是介词短语,意思是“由于,因为”,后跟名词或动名词短语。
Eg He didn’t go to school because of the storm. 因为暴风雨,他没有去上学。
David was late for school because of getting up late. 因为起床晚了,大卫迟到了。
(2)“one of + the +形容词的最高级+名词的复数”是固定用法,意思是“最……之一”,best是形容词good的最高级,意思是“最好的”。如:

attend 动词,常用的意思:参加、出席

give up的意思是“放弃”,可直接跟名词、v-ing形式作宾语,后接代词作宾语时,要将代词放在give和 up之间。例如:
David has decided to give up football at the end of this year.
戴维已经决定今年年底就不再踢足球了。
give up doing sth.表示“放弃做某事”。
Why don’t you give up smoking 你为什么不戒烟?
4. Finally, he developed new kinds of rice plants, including one that produces 30% more rice than normal. 最后,他开发了新的水稻品种,其中一种水稻产量比普通水稻高出30%。
本句中including作介词,和后面的名词/代词构成介宾短语,意思是“包括”。

Dr. Bethune developed new ways of taking care of the sick.白求恩医生研究出了照料病人的新方法。
本句中的the sick 的结构是形容词前加上定冠词,表示复数概念,泛指某一类人。这类结构做主语时谓语动词要用复数形式。例如:
The young have plenty of opportunities here. 年轻人在这里有大量的机会。
The blind learn skills in special schools.盲人在特殊学校学习技能。
At that time, there were few doctors, so he had to work very hard on his own.那时医生很少,所以他不得不很辛苦的独自工作。
On one’s own表示“独立的,独自的”。同义词为by oneself, alone.

Step 2 Grammar : 原因、目的和结果状语从句
1.. 原因状语从句
(1)原因状语从句通常由because, since, as引导。例如:He didn’t come to school because he was ill.
As it is raining, we shall not (不得;不应该)go the zoo.
Since you can’t answer the question, I’ll ask someone else.
(2)because表示直接原因,语气最强。Because引导的原因状语从句多放在主句之后。回答由why提出的问题,只能用because。As和since语气较弱,一般用来表示明显的原因。由as和since引导的原因状语从居多放在句首。例如:
------Why aren’t going there ------Because I don’t want to.
As he has no car, he can’t get there easily. Since we have no money, we can’t buy it.
(3)because和so不能同用在一个句子里。
2. 结果状语从句
(1)结果状语从句由so…that, such…that, so that引导。例如:
so…that语such...that可以互换。例如:在由so...that引导的结果状语从句中,so是副词,与形容词连用。其结构是: “...so + 形容词(副词)+ that + 从句”。例如:He was so glad that he couldn’t say a word.
在由such…that引导的结果状语从句中,such是形容词,它修饰的可以是单数或复数可数名词,也可以是不可数名词;名词前面可以带形容词,也可不带。如果是单数可数名词,前面需加不定冠词a或an。例如:
It was such a hot day that nobody wanted to do anything.
He had such long arms that he could almost touch the ceiling.(天花板)
有时上述两种结构是可以互换的。例如:
It is such an important match that nobody wants to miss it.=The match is so important that nobody wants to miss it.
(2)如果名词前由many, much, little, few等词修饰时,只能用so, 不用such。例如:
Soon there were so many deer that they ate up all the wild roses.
He has so little time that he can’t go to the cinema(去看电影) with you.
3. 目的状语从句
(1)目的状语从句通常由 so that, in order that(为了,以便)引导。例如:
We started early so that we could catch the first train. We used the computer in order that we might save time.
