Having lost his father before he was born, Newton grew up with his grandparents. At 17, soon after he finished schooling, his mother decided that he would be trained to take care of their family farm. But instead of watching sheep, young Newton spent his time making small tools. His head teacher saw the genius in him and asked his mother to send him to the university. Newton set out for Cambridge in June, 1661.
Newton was always trying to understand and explain a lot of things in nature. To test a question about colors, he would stare at (凝视) the sun with one eye until all the colors changed. As a result, he had to stay in the dark for several days before his eye returned to normal. Newton was the first to show us that white light is made up of colors mixed together.
A story goes like this: One day, an apple fell on Newton’s head, and it was then that Newton realized that the apple fell towards the Earth and didn’t go anywhere else. He thought to himself, “How did this happen ” After doing some experiments, he later knew all objects (物体) always fall towards the Earth’s center because the Earth attracts them. He realized that every object in the universe attracts every other object towards it. Then Newton discovered the law of universal gravitation (万有引力).

Many of us spent our childhoods dreaming of becoming astronauts. However, only a few would make it. But does that mean you’ll never get the chance to work in space Not necessarily.
In fact, some of the space jobs are not only for astronauts and they all sound just cool. One of the most interesting space jobs is “chief sniffer (嗅探员)”. NASA has already had a sniffer named George Aldrich, whose job is to smell materials before they are used in spaceships.
Using your nose at work might sound a little strange, but the job is actually important. A spaceship is of small size and high temperature, which makes smells inside stronger. And once a spaceship is sent, astronauts have no ways to run away from unpleasant smells. More importantly, smelling objects can help find things that could do harm to astronauts’ health.
Another job, the “space tour guide”, may seem a little ahead of its time—after all, there aren’t any tourists there. But now, many companies are starting to provide space trips and some rich space lovers have ordered the tours. It may not be long before space becomes one of the top travel destinations (目的地).
Being a space tour guide requires rich knowledge to help passengers get the most out of their journey. Space tour guides also need to be excellent storytellers so that passengers can experience the true beauty of the space travel.
Astronauts often spend long time in space with the same group of people, which is why a “space psychologist (心理学家)” is also needed to help astronauts overcome bad feelings. “We’re crossing the boundaries (界限) between science fiction and reality,” said Rohit Talwar, director of the US company Fast Future Research, “Things we’ve seen in movies are now becoming reality!”
51.How many space jobs are mentioned in the text
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
52.What’s George Aldrich’s job at NASA mainly about
A.Cheering astronauts up with excellent stories.
B.Cleaning up dangerous things found in spaceships.
C.Checking the size and temperature of the spaceship.
D.Keeping astronauts safe from things of unpleasant smells.
53.A space tour guide needs to be ________.
A.helpful in relaxing and full of energy
B.rich in money and interested in space
C.excellent in knowledge and good at storytelling
D.successful in research and active in communicating
54.What does Rohit Talwar think of future research in space
A.It’s relaxing. B.It’s moving. C.It’s exciting. D.It’s worrying.
55.What is the best title for the text
A.True beauty of space travel B.Bright future of space research
C.Dangerous life of being a sniffer D.More choices of working in space

A group of comics called “Tiny Eyes” go popular on the Internet. With these comics, Chinese artist Cao Siyu shares the differences between Chinese culture and Western culture.
Cao Siyu comes from Beijing. She spent the last 10 years in France, the UK and the USA.“Many foreign people that I met were interested in China.” She explained. But most of their ideas about China are out of date. I hope I can change the image of China in foreigners’ mind.” That is why Cao Siyu put her idea of “Tiny Eyes” comics into practice.
By bringing words and images together, the Chinese artist tells stories in a simple yet powerful way. She shares Chinese People’s daily life and compares how differently people act in the same situation.
In one comic, for example, she compared French cutlery (餐具) with Chinese one: While French people use eight different forks and knives for a meal, Chinese people can make it with only a pair of chopsticks. And in another comic, Cao Siyu made it clear how people from different cultures express love. She wrote below the comic, “Chinese people are not used to saying ‘I love you, Mum’. Instead, they show their love in actions.”
Cao Siyu provides a new way for foreigners to know her motherland, and her works have gathered about 20 thousand fans on the Internet. “People from one culture may not be able to fully understand another. But we can listen to each other.” she said.
