1.against [介词］①(在比赛或战斗中）对抗（某人或某事物）常用于play,fight 等动词之后。
I'll play against Lingling in the game.在这场比赛中我的对手将是玲玲。
②倚，靠；碰，撞；逆着；反对
against the wall靠在墙上 hit against a tree撞到树上
2.so that
①以便；为了 引导目的状语从句，常和in order that 引导的从句或 in order to do sth. 进行同义转换。
He worked hard so that he could get good grades.＝He worked hard in order that he could get goodgrades. =He worked hard in order to get good grades. 他努力学习，以便能取得好成绩。
②结果，因此引导结果状语从句，从句前可用逗号与主句分开。
It rained heavily, so that we had to stay at home.雨下得很大，结果我们不得不待在家里。
【拓展】so…that… “如此……以至于……”引导结果状语从句
He got up so early that he caught the first bus.
他起床很早，赶上了第一班公交。
3.train
① [不及物动词］(体育）训练，操练
He is training hard. 他正在刻苦训练。
② [及物动词］训练
They train elephants to do the farm work.他们训练大象干农活。
③ [可数名词］火车
I love travelling by train. 我喜欢乘火车旅行。
4.usual[形容词］通常的；平常的，反义词：unusual 不寻常的；罕见的usually[副词］通常，反义词：unusually不寻常地
They worked harder than usual.他们比平常更加努力地工作。

He went out for a walk as usual. 他跟往常一样外出散步。
5. beat (beat,beaten)
① [及物动词］打败；战胜
② [不及物动词］ (心脏）跳动；击打
辨析：beat 与 win
①beat打败；战胜，宾语是人或队、组等
We beat the team from No. 1 Middle School. 我们打败了一中代表队。
②win获胜；赢得，宾语是比赛、奖品等
We won the basketball game.我们赢了篮球比赛。
助记：beat 指打败对手；win 指赢得比赛。
6.pleased [形容词］开心的；满足的，pleased作表语，主语通常是人。
与pleased 相关的常用短语：
be pleased with 对······满意， be pleased to do sth. 乐意做某事
Her mother is pleased with her.她母亲对她很满意。
I'm very pleased to meet you.见到你我非常高兴。

7.careless [形容词］粗心的；疏忽的，可作定语或表语。
【反义词】careful [形容词］仔细的，小心的。名词care 关心
Paul is a careless boy. He always makes mistakes.
保罗是一个粗心大意的男孩。他总是犯错误
［拓展］－less是一个否定后缀，表示“不具有”或“没有······特征的”，跟在某些名词之后构成形容词。
help (帮助）－helpless(无助的） use (用处）－useless (无用的）
home (家）－homeless(无家可归的）
8.chance [可数名词］可能性；机会
have a chance of doing sth. 有做某事的可能／机会
have a chance to do sth. 有机会做某事
He has no chance of succeeding/to succeed. 他没有成功的机会。
［拓展］by chance偶然地，意外地
I met Mr Wang in Shanghai by chance.我在上海意外地遇见了王先生。

9.cheer. . .on 用欢呼声激励，为······加油
We cheered our favourite team on.我们为我们最喜欢的球队加油。
［拓展］cheer up(使）振作起来， (使）高兴起来
We all tried to cheer her up. 我们都尽力使她高兴起来。
