I'm Peter, an American student, and I'm studying in China now. I came here two years ago, and I'm living with a Chinese family. It's great to stay with a Chinese family because Chinese people are very friendly. But there are some differences between Chinese and Americans. First, don't call the mother's or father's name. They'll be glad if you call them Mum and Dad. Second, prepare some gifts for the family. Give these gifts to them when you arrive, and they'll think you are polite. Third, eat together. Don't start eating before the parents do at meals unless(除非) they ask you to do so. Finally, if you can't get home on time, you need to tell them beforehand(事先). Take it easy.

Manners are very important for our daily life. There are many different customs(习俗) and habits among different countries.
If you visit a Chinese family, you'd better not get in before the host says, “Come in, please.” After you get into the room, you would not sit down until the host asks you to take a seat. When the host offers you a cup of tea, you should say “Thank you” and receive it with both hands. Before entering a house in Japan, it is good manners to take off your shoes. In European countries, even though shoes sometimes are very dirty, there is no need to do so. In a Malay house, a visitor always leaves a little food to show that he is full(吃饱的). In England, a visitor always finishes the food to show that he has enjoyed it. The host will be pleased with that.
You have to give your gift in public in the Middle East to show it is not a bribe. But it's good manners to give your gift in private(私下里) in Asia. You mustn't give knives in Latin America because it means that you want to cut off the relationship. You mustn't give food in Arabia because it means that you think your host isn't offering you enough food to eat.
“Come any time” means “I want you to visit me” in India. If you don't suggest a time at once, the Indians will think you're refusing(拒绝) them. But if an Englishman says “Come any time”, he will think you are impolite if you start fixing(确定) a date.
