"Learn step by step, learn every day," Zhang said. To date, she has grasped a vocabulary of around 3,000English words, enabling her to talk fluently with foreigners. "Growing up without a college education, I sometimes feared being looked down upon. But every time I help a stranger in English, I feel incredibly fulfilled. "

China has set new rules limiting the amount of time when children can play online games. The rules limit children to just three hours of online game playing a week. That is one hour between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday most weeks.
Li Zhanguo has two children aged 4 and 8.Even though they do not have smartphones, they enjoy playing online games. Like many other parents, Li is happy with the new government rules. But experts say it is unclear if such policies(政策) can help prevent addiction to online games. Children might just get addicted to social media instead. In the end, experts say parents should be the ones to set limits and support good practices.
There has been a growing concern in China about gaming addiction among children. Government reports in 2018 found that about one in ten Chinese children was addicted to the Internet. The new rules are part of an effort to prevent young people from spending too much time on unhealthy entertainment. That includes what officials call the "irrational(不理性的) fan culture".
Under the new rules, the responsibility for making sure children play only three hours a week falls largely on Chinese gaming companies like NetEase and panies have set up real-name registration systems to prevent young users from going past game time limits. They have used facial recognition technology to check their identities. And they have also set up a program that permits people to report what is against the law. It is unclear what punishments gaming companies may face if they do not carry out the policies. And even if such policies are performed, it is also unclear whether they can prevent online addiction.
A specialist treating Internet addiction expects about 20 percent of children will find ways to break the rules by borrowing accounts of their older relatives and find a way to bypass(绕过) facial recognition. In his opinion, short-video apps such as Douyin and Kuaishou are also very popular in China. They are not under the same restrictions(限制规定) as games.
11.When can children play online games according to the new rules
A.Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m on Friday.
B.Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m on Tuesday.
C.Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday.
D.Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Thursday.
12.According to experts, _____.
A.the new rules can stop children's addiction to social media
B.companies are more responsible for kids' obeying the rules
C.the new rules will help prevent children playing online games
D.parents play a greater part in limiting the time of online games
13.What will children probably do to battle with the new rules
A.Design an advanced program. B.Use facial recognition systems.

Asia's architectural treasures, from a Buddhist monastery in Afghanistan to an ancient city in China, are under threat due to economic development, poor technical resources, war and tourism, according to experts.
The Global Heritage Fund named 10 sites facing the loss and destruction impossible to recover. "These 10 sites represent only a small part of the endangered treasures across Asia and the rest of the developing world," Jeff Morgan, executive director of the fund, said.

The hike to the lost Inca city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. From the town of Cachora, which is 161 km west of Cusco, it's an 18-kilometer walk to the Capuliyoc Mountain, then down to Playa Rosalina, where travellers camp for the night. Waking early, travellers then have to cross the Apurimac River and walk uphill to camp close to the ruins. Then, the next morning, it's another 2-kilometerwalk up to the ruins, 3,100 m above sea level. To get back Well, it's the same way you came.
"I've seen people in their 60s and 70s do it," said Juan Barrios, a guide from the Adventure Life company. "But some people come out thinking that because it's only 28 km from the drop-off, they can do it in a day. Six or seven days for the hike is best."
It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season (June through pare that to the 2,500 people who arrive each day at the famous Inca city of Machu Picchu.
But for those who make the journey, the rewards(回报) are dramatic: the beautiful mountain landscape at every turn, and the chance to explore the wonderful ruins nearly alone.
Believed to be created around the same time as Machu Picchu, in 1445, Choquequirao is actually larger than better-known Machu Picchu. But very little has been written about Peru's other lost cities and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched.
But officials say that the building of the first cable car(缆车) to Choquequirao will shorten the several-day walk to a 15-minute cable car ride. As a result, the number of travellers that now make the journey each week could turn into 3,000 per day.
Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is. Even though the lost city was discovered by the Spanish explorer Juan Arias Díaz in 1710, the ruins still make you feel as though you were the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in
11.What does the first paragraph centre on

A.Choquequirao is older. B.Choquequirao is quieter.
C.Choquequirao is smaller. D.Choquequirao is better known.
13.How are the ruins of Choquequirao
A.They're still being dug out. B.They're in a generally poor condition.
C.They're being renewed at the moment. D.They've been researched internationally.
14.What does the author think of Choquequirao in the future
A.It will be more attractive.
B.It will develop at a slow speed.
C.It won't necessarily take a turn for the better.

In 2012, an iPhone fell into my hands. This smart technology seemed like the entrance to only fun and positive things like chatting with friends and blogging.
However, many years later, I became limited to it. Recent reports show that I'm not alone. According to a study, an average American spends five hours a day on smart devices (装置) and about2.5 of these hours are spent on messaging, social media and entertainment apps.
It's hard to explain when the love and joy I felt for my iPhone turned into dependency. I fell asleep to my phone every night and woke to it each morning. I checked the weather app every morning before I chose how to dress for the day. I used it to help me find my way through a city. I checked my email box every time I picked my phone up.
Just like with any addiction, my phone dependency began to influence my life. While spending time with family, I'd stare at a small screen on my lap instead of being involved in communicating with my loved ones. At work, my productivity levels dropped. And then, my four-year relationship came to an end. Eventually, I was left with years of memories and a mobile phone that couldn't provide enjoyable company across a dinner table and share in the joys of experiencing a concert.
Now, I move through life with more goals and intention. I've cut back on my time and attention to my phone. Instead, I focus my efforts on being as present as possible. Truly training the mind to stay present is a long and challenging road, but it's important to start somewhere.
I hope you'll take a deep look at your own phone habits and reevaluate (再度评价) how important a role you are letting it play in your life. Whether or not you've reached a place in your life where your screen time is problematic, there's no harm in carefully giving your current practices some thought.

On Wednesday, at least 17 of the country's 64 districts(地区), mostly in the northern and north-eastern Sylhet, were suffering from the natural disaster. 根据第二段中的“at least 17 of the country's 64 districts...suffering from the natural disaster” “at least 36 people had been killed and about 4.5 million people had been stuck so far” “The floods also caused damage to agriculture, electricity, and clean water supply.”
12.答案:A
根据第三段中的“Many people are in great need of food and drinking water” “Flood shelters are filled with people but they are not getting enough food”可知,洪水避难所的人们急需食物。故选A项。
画线词前面的“Army rescuers have evacuated thousands of trapped people...districts”为救援措施;画线词所在部分为主句,其后面的定语从句“about 3.7 million of whom are staying in government-run temporary shelters on higher ground(其中约370万人住在高地上政府运营的临时避难所)”为救援成果。

I start my workday early, parking myself in front of my home computer and often forgetting to get up in a period of several hours. But one thing I try to do every day is take a ten-minute walk around midday.
Walking at lunchtime is a smart thing to do, a new study finds. This doesn't seem like news. After all, we've known that doing exercise makes a big difference to us. But as The New York Times points out, those fitness studies typically look at the effects of exercise plans in the long run. This new study looks at changes that happen more quickly, from one day to the next day or even from this hour to the next hour.
For the study, researchers gathered a group of mostly sedentary(惯于久坐的) office workers in the UK. All were out of shape, but emotionally healthy. Researchers asked them to take 30-minute lunchtime walks, three days a week for 10 weeks. The volunteers were also asked to install apps on their smart phones so that the researchers could send the volunteers questions after they walked. Then the researchers used those answers to judge how the volunteers were feeling about life and work, and to measure their feelings about everything from stress and tension to motivation.
When the researchers compared the volunteers' answers on the afternoons when they walked to those on the afternoons when they didn't walk, there was quite a difference. On the days when they had a lunchtime walk, the volunteers said they felt less stressed, more energetic and more relaxed versus(与……相比) their situations on the days when they didn't walk.
Unfortunately, the researchers said many of the volunteers didn't believe that they'd be able to continue walking once the study ended, mainly because they were expected to work through their lunch breaks. It's an understandable response, but a sad one.
11.How does the new study differ from other fitness studies
A.It calls on people to have a walk after lunch.
B.It focuses on the short-term effects of walking.
C.It mainly pays attention to sedentary office workers.
D.It aims at studying the relationship between exercise and health.
12.Why were the volunteers required to install apps on their smart phones
A.To record their time spent online. B.To know how long they walked.
C.To prevent them from getting lost. D.To respond to the researchers' questions.
13.What does the new study find
A.Lunchtime walks can soon improve people's moods.
B.Office workers usually have little time to go for a walk.
C.A sedentary lifestyle is linked to an increased risk of disease.
D.Walking brings more advantages to people than other kinds of exercise.
14.What can we infer about the volunteers from the last paragraph
A.They will spend more time walking.
B.Some of them tend to be more outgoing.
C.Most of them will perform better in the work.
D.They may stop lunchtime walks due to work pressure.

A powerful earthquake hit Morocco on Friday night. The earthquake struck around 11 p.m. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) says that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8. But Morocco's earthquake center recorded the earthquake was almost twice as strong.
The quake was one of the most powerful ever recorded in Morocco. It was also the country's deadliest earthquake in over 60 years. The earthquake is reported to have killed over 2,680 people so far. It has injured over 2,500 others. The earthquake was extremely dangerous because it happened at night. Marrakesh is a big city that's popular with tourists. Many of its modern buildings seem to have survived the earthquake. But the old part of the city, called Medina, was hard hit. Medina has buildings that are over 1,000 years old.
Outside of Marrakesh, the earth quake caused even more damage. In the Atlas Mountains, the earthquake's center, there were many small villages. Some villages were nearly destroyed. Many of the people in the area live in simple houses made of mud bricks. This is a traditional way of building in Могоcco. But they are not strong enough to protect against earthquakes. Many of these houses collapsed. Some of the bricks turned to sand.
Rescue workers have been working hard to save those affected by the quake. In larger cities, rescue efforts seem to be going well.
But it has taken a lot longer for help to reach far areas in the mountains. Many of these villages are difficult to get to. The earthquake caused landslides, blocking roads and making these places even more difficult to reach. In some areas, telephone and electrical service were also knocked out, leaving these places completely cut off. That means that the local people in some areas far away have had to deal with the situation on their own.
But more help is coming. Some countries have offered teams of experts; others have offered emergency supplies.
11.Why was the earthquake in Morocco especially dangerous according to the text
A. It was the strongest on record.
B. There were too many tourists there.
C. The buildings there were all too old.
D. It happened when people were asleep.
12.What does the underlined word "collapsed" in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Built up. B. Fell down. C. Lasted long. D. Stood still.
13.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about
A. Causes of the earthquake.
B. Terrible sights after the earthquake.
C. Difficulties met with in rescuing.
D. Survivors' efforts to rebuild the city.
14.In which part of a website can the text appear
A. Culture. B. Society. C. Environment. D. Travel.

Measuring about 13,170 miles long, the Great Wall of China is no doubt the longest man-made project on earth. It was once widely believed that it could be seen from space. Some media even reported with affected seriousness, "The biggest building the astronauts could see from space is the wall, which looks very much like a black worm." Consequently, this statement has gone deep into people's minds and become an honor that Chinese people have enjoyed for years.
Is the Great Wall truly visible from space Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut who was lifted into outer space by the spacecraft Shenzhou V, gave a definite answer: No". Yang's negative response might put out a fair number of people's passion. But it powerfully corrected the misconception. The wall is indeed majestic, but you won't see it from space
In fact, Neil Alden Armstrong, the American astronaut who first set foot on the moon in 1969, was asked many times whether or not he had seen the Great Wall from the moon. Recently from a sound recording announced by NASA's Johnson Space Center, Armstrong said that he had seen the continents, lakes and blue spots(斑点) touched with red. But he could not make out any man-made object on earth from the moon.
The Great Wall is narrow and irregular. In space, something irregular is hard to observe. Measuring about 10 metres wide on average, it easily merges(融入) into the surrounding environment. It is totally invisible at a height of 196,850 feet with the naked eye. To watch the wall on the moon is like seeking for a single hair from about 2,688 metres away. To say an astronaut can see it from space is obviously not true.
However, some people introduced an idea to make the Great Wall visible from space. If we install(安装) bright spotlights(聚光灯) on the wall, astronauts will see the lights at night. But this suggestion has not been carried out by scientific experiments.
11.Which is right about the statement “the Great Wall can be seen from space”
A.The news media cast doubt on it.
B.There was much evidence for it.
C.Astronauts played a trick on Chinese people.
D.The Chinese had belief in it for a long time.
12.What does the underlined word “majestic” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Invisible. B.Bright. C.Grand. D.Visible.
13.As Armstrong once said, what did he see from the moon
A.The Great Wall. B.Bright spotlights.
C.Places painted blue. D.Large area of land.
14.How does the author prove a point in Paragraph 4
A.By listing figures. B.By giving examples.
C.By classifying facts. D.By drawing conclusions.

Owls(猫头鹰) can be found in many parts of the world. And today, one kind of owl, the barred owl(横斑林鸮), is causing a problem in forests of the northwestern United States. Barred owls are a large species native to eastern North America, but they began moving west at the start of the 20th century. In parts of the Pacific Northwest, barred owls are now causing a drop in the population of a kind of smaller and less aggressive(侵略的) bird: the northern spotted owl. The U.S. Geological Survey is doing something unusual to protect spotted owls: killing barred owls. As a member of the department, David Wiens has mixed feelings about the program. "It's a little unpleasant, I think, to go out killing owls," he says. "But we know that barred owls are really stronger than spotted owls and that their numbers are growing too fast, so it makes sense to do that."
It is a controversial(有争议的) program. "A decision not to kill the barred owl is a decision to make the spotted owl disappear," says Bob Sallinger, a director at the non-profit National Audubon Society in Portland, Oregon. However, Marc Bekoff, a professor of ecology(生态学) and biology at the University of Colorado Boulder, strongly disagrees with the experiment and says humans should find another way to help spotted owls.
If reducing the barred owl population improves the number of spotted owls, the U.S. Geological Survey may consider killing more barred owls as part of a longer-term effort. Enough success has been noted for the experiment to be extended to August of 2021.
11.Why are barred owls being killed
A.Because they are breaking the laws of nature.
B.Because they are killing each other to survive.
C.Because they are destroying large areas of forests.
D.Because they are putting the spotted owls in danger.
12.What is Wiens's attitude towards the program
A.Doubtful. B.Uncaring. C.Supportive. D.Negative.
13.Which is the best title for the text
A.New Ways to Help Forests B.How to Keep Ecological Balance
C.Killing One Species to Save Another D.Time to Protect Animals
Urban Wildlife
Cities are diverse ecosystems. In addition to visitors, a large number of species share our urban areas. As our cities spread, we need to think about what it is like for other species to have human neighbors.
Cities are built for humans. ①_____ For example, most city parks are kept neat and tidy so that humans will find them beautiful. But when we cut grass or plants, we destroy natural habitats, which leads to the imbalance of ecology.
②_____ When a bridge in Austin, Texas was repaired, engineers added small gaps running the length of its bottom. This made a good home for bats, and soon the bridge was home to thousands of bats. ③_____ Now, they have come to value their winged neighbors. The bats become an attraction, and they eat lots of bugs every night.
There are also structures built with the aim of bringing wildlife into the city. The Olympic Forest Park in Beijing is a good example. The park used native plants, and created open and natural spaces for wildlife. The result is a zone in Beijing with over 160 species of birds. In many ways, the park is the opposite of a zoo. ④_____
If we learn to share our space, we can become better neighbors of the wildlife around us. ⑤_____ Our own future will be endangered too.
A.They are built to protect birds.
B.Our actions sometimes help other species.
C. If we do not, more species will become extinct.
D.They do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife.
E.Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife can move more freely.
F.At first, people were afraid of the bats and tried to get rid of them.
G.They would sit on it and their droppings would fall into the water.

根据第一段中的“..barred owls are now causing a drop in the population of... the northern spotted owl. The U.S. Geological Survey is doing something unusual...killing barred owls.”
根据第一段中David Wiens说的话中的“so it makes sense to do that”可知,David Wiens认为这样做是合乎情理的,由此可以推断,David Wiens对这个项目的态度是支持的。故选C。

Driving to a friend’s house on a recent evening, I was attracted by the sight of the full moon rising just above my friend's rooftops. I stopped to watch it for a few moments, thinking about what a pity it was that most city people, myself included, usually miss sights like this because we spend most of our lives indoors.
My friend had also seen it. He grew up living in a forest in Europe, and the moon meant a lot to him then. It had touched much of his life.
I know the feeling. Last December I took my seven-year-old daughter to the mountainous jungle of northern India with some friends. We stayed in a forest rest-house with no electricity or hot water. Our group had campfires outside every night, and indoors when it was too cold outside. The moon grew to its fullest during our trip. Between me and the high mountains lay three or four valleys. Not a light shone in them and not a sound could be heard. It was one of the quietest places I had ever known, a bottomless well of silence. And above me was the full moon, which struck me deeply.
Today our lives are filled with glass, metal, plastic and fibre-glass. We have televisions, cellphones, heaters, ovens, air-conditioners, cars and computers.
Struggling through traffic that evening at the end of a tiring day, most of it spent indoors, I thought: Before long, I would like to live in a small cottage. There I will grow vegetables and read books and walk in the mountains. And perhaps I'll write, but not in anger. I may become an old man there, and wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled and measure out my life in coffee spoons. But I will be able to walk outside on a cold silent night and touch the moon.
11.Why did the writer feel sorry for himself
A.There was too much pollution. B.He usually missed the full moon sights.
C.He didn't adapt to modem inventions. D.There were too many accidents on the road.
12.What impressed the writer most in the mountainous jungle of northern India

A.show that the writer likes city life very much
B.tell us that people greatly benefit from modern life
C.explain that people have few chances to enjoy nature
D.show that we can also enjoy nature at home through them
14.What would be the best title for the passage
A.Touched by the Moon B.The Pleasures of Modern Life
C.A Bottomless Well of Silence D.Break Away From Modern Life
