When it comes to teaching and learning, pictures play an important role in making things simple. Thinking maps have been proved to be a useful tool for students and teachers at all grades.
Thinking maps make meaningful learning possible as they help organize ideas and information in a way that is easy to understand. They can be very useful during creative thinking exercises. Here are four types of thinking maps and ways to use them.
The bubble map is used to describe a subject using adjectives. Bubble maps can be very useful when analyzing(分析) a character from a novel or story, introducing new lessons to the class, etc.
The brace map is used to show the units of an object or event. For example, the parts of a car. It shouldn’t be used for something abstract(抽象的) like an idea, which cannot be easily separated.
The circle map is a tool that is used to describe something or express understanding of a topic. It’s a great tool for both personal and group brainstorming activities. People can write down a topic in the central circle. Around the topic are facts or ideas. Inside the square are ways to collect more information.
The flow map represents the flow of something. It can be used to organize information in a proper order, list steps of an event and find patterns(模式). The flow map includes a series of boxes which are connected by arrows(箭头). Pictures can also be used instead of boxes to show the order.
