(一)Warming-up
1. Greetings

2. Free talk about weekends

- T: That means the weekend has just passed. Do you like weekends
- Ss: Yes.
- T: What do you usually do on weekends
- Some students may raise their hands and answer, such as "I watch TV.", "I play games.", "I do my homework." etc.
设计意图:以谈论今天的日期引出周末的话题,激发学生的兴趣和对周末的回忆,自然地过渡到本节课关于周末活动的学习内容。同时,了解学生的周末日常活动,为后续教学提供参考和铺垫。
(二)Lead-in
1. Show a short video clip of a family having a picnic in the park on a sunny weekend. The video shows the family enjoying the beautiful scenery, playing games, and having a delicious meal together.
- T: What are they doing in the video
- Ss: They are having a picnic.
- T: Yes, they are having a great time on the weekend. What other things do you think families can do on weekends
- Ss may mention activities like going shopping, visiting grandparents, going to the movies etc.
- T: You are right. There are many interesting things we can do on weekends. Today let's learn more about weekend activities in Lesson 3 "Happy Weekend".
2. Write the title "Happy Weekend" on the blackboard.

(三)Presentation
1. Learn new words and phrases
- Show pictures of different weekend activities one by one on the multimedia, such as a family going shopping, visiting grandparents, going to the park, seeing a movie, playing sports, and doing housework. For each picture, say the corresponding phrase and write it on the blackboard, for example:
- (Show a picture of a family shopping) T: Look at this picture. What are they doing They are going shopping. Go shopping, g-o - s-h-o-p-p-i-n-g, go shopping.
- Use the same way to teach other phrases: visit grandparents, go to the park, see a movie, play sports, do housework, have a picnic.
- After teaching all the phrases, ask the students to read them together several times. Then use the flashcards to quickly show the phrases and ask the students to say them out as fast as possible.

2. Drill the phrases
- Play a guessing game. Divide the students into groups of four. One student from each group comes to the front and acts out a weekend activity using body language without speaking. The other students in the group guess the activity and say the phrase in English. The first group to guess correctly gets a point. Then another student takes a turn to act.
- Have a phrase matching game. Prepare some cards with the names of the weekend activities on one side and pictures representing those activities on the other side. Mix up the cards and give one set to each group. The students in the group need to match the phrases with the correct pictures as quickly as possible.

The structure of the simple past tense for most verbs is to add -ed to the base form of the verb, for example, "do - did", "go - went", "visit - visited".
- Ask some students questions using this sentence, such as "What did you do last weekend, Tom " Tom may answer, "I went to the park with my family." Then write the answer on the blackboard and emphasize the use of the past tense verb "went".
- Introduce other sentences to describe weekend activities in the past tense, such as "We visited grandparents last weekend. They were very happy to see us." and "I saw a movie with my friends. It was very exciting." Explain the usage of the verbs in the past tense and have the students repeat the sentences.
- Use the multimedia to show some examples of regular and irregular verb forms in the simple past tense with animations or charts to help students understand and remember better.

1. Listen and repeat
- Open the textbook to Lesson 3 "Happy Weekend". Play the audio of the dialogue between two students talking about their weekend activities. The students listen and repeat, paying attention to the pronunciation, intonation, and the use of the simple past tense in the dialogue.

2. Pair work
- Ask the students to work in pairs and take turns to ask and answer questions about their weekend activities using the sentences they have learned. For example:

- A: I visited my grandparents. We had a good time together.
- Walk around the classroom and listen to the students' conversations. Provide guidance and correction if necessary. Then invite some pairs to come to the front and have a short conversation for the class to listen.

They can also share their feelings about the weekend. After everyone has finished speaking, the group members work together to summarize their group's weekend stories into a short paragraph.
- Each group chooses a representative to read their group's weekend story to the class. The other students listen carefully and can ask questions or make comments after each group's presentation.

1. Survey and report
- Give each student a survey form with questions about their classmates' weekend activities, such as "What did your classmate do last weekend Did they go out with their family What was their favorite activity " The students go around the classroom and interview at least three classmates to fill in the form.
- After finishing the survey, the students return to their seats and summarize the results. They then write a short report about the most popular weekend activities among their classmates and present it to the class. They should use the simple past tense and the phrases and sentences they have learned in the report. For example: "Most of my classmates had a busy weekend. Many of them went shopping or played sports. Some visited their grandparents. It seems that everyone had a good time on the weekend."
- Ask some students to read their reports to the class and have a discussion about the different weekend activities and how they make people feel.

They can also draw a simple picture or make a list to make their plans more clear.
- When the students have finished their plans, they share them with their partners. The partners give each other suggestions and comments on the plans. Then some students can volunteer to share their weekend activity plans with the whole class and explain why they chose these activities and what they expect to gain from them.

(六)Summary
1. Review the words, phrases, and sentences
- Show the words, phrases, and sentences about weekend activities and the simple past tense on the multimedia again. Ask the students to read them together loudly and quickly.
- Have a quick review quiz. Display some pictures or verbs in the present tense and ask the students to say the corresponding past tense forms and make sentences using them. For example, show a picture of a boy playing basketball and ask the students to say "He played basketball last weekend." or give the verb "go" and ask the students to say "went" and then make a sentence like "I went to the zoo last weekend."

2. Summary the class
- T: Today we have learned a lot about weekend activities and how to talk about them in the past tense. 2. Make a photo album or a mini-presentation about your last weekend using pictures you took or found online. Write captions in English for each picture to describe the activity. You can share it with your classmates next week.
