Unit 1 Are you getting ready for Spring Festival
Part One —— Analysis of the Teaching Material
1. Status and Function
This unit is from Module 10 in Book A. It tells us the most important festival in China—Spring Festival, and what people do to prepare for Spring Festival. Besides learning this, students will also learn some words, phrases and expressions of Spring Festival.
2. Analysis of the Students
The students in my class are creative and active. They are interested in Spring Festival. They like to talk about how people prepare for Spring Festival. The type of this unit is listening and speaking, so I will ask the students to speak English as much as possible.
3. Teaching Aims and Demands
1. Knowledge objects
(1) To learn and master the new words and phrases “lantern”, “dance”, “clean”, ”cook”, “happen”, “quite”, “hard”, “join” ,“get ready for, at the moment, at work, put away, hurry up”, etc.
(2) To master present continuous tense.
(3) To master pronunciation: /l/, /w/, /r/, /j/.
2. Ability objects
(1) To identify what people do to prepare for Spring Festival.
(2) To identify the questions like What is/are…doing /What’s happening
(3) To introduce how people prepare for Spring Festival.
3. Moral objects
The students in China are familiar with Spring Festival. According to learning this unit, it can cultivate students’ sense of national pride.

(1).Be able to express words, phrases and structures in English.
(2).To master pronunciation: /l/, /w/, /r/, /j/.

Step1 Warm-up
Show the students some pictures of The Chinese Festivals. Ask the students:
What is the biggest festival in China
What do you think people usually do to get ready for Spring Festival
Purpose of my designing: In this part, have the students say more about what they have know about Spring Festival.
Step2 Leading in
1. Learn new words in groups, show them pictures of these things and teach them these new words.
2. Match the pictures with the expressions, and play a game.
Purpose: Playing the game can arouse the Ss’ interest in remembering the new words.
3. Play the tape recorder. Let the students listen and number the pictures.
Purpose of my designing: This step is employed to make the students get the general idea of the dialogue. At the same time let the students have a chance to practice their listening and speaking abilities.
Step3. Fast-reading and listening
Listen to the dialogue and then read it quickly to choose the correct answer.
Purpose of my designing: To improve the students’ ability of getting information from the dialogue. We can also improve students’ listening ability by listening practice.
Step4. Careful-reading
Ask students to read the dialogue in groups and answer the questions
Purpose of my designing: By doing the exercise, the students will have a better understanding of the dialogue and master some key structures.
Step5. Post-reading
Complete the passage
Purpose of my designing: to consolidate what they have learned and have a better understanding of the dialogue.
Step6. Practice
1. Ask the students to practice Pronunciation and Speaking.
2 Work in pairs. Ask and answer what people are doing during Spring Festival.
Purpose of my designing: to develop the students’ abilities of speaking and listening again.
Step 7 —— Summary and Homework
1. Summary
Summarize the new words and phrases for the students, and then emphasize the Present continuous tense.
2. Homework
Ask the students to make a dialogue about what people do to prepare for Spring Festival, using the Present continuous tense.
Purpose of my designing: By doing the homework, the Ss can master the knowledge aims better and they can use what they have learned in daily life.

Purpose of my designing: The blackboard design can attract the Ss’s attention and help them remember the new words and phrases.
