1. Status and Function
This unit is from Module10 in Book 1. The type of this unit is reading and writing. It tells us information on the celebration of Spring Festival. The students will also learn different culture in foreign countries. Besides learning this, the students will learn some words, phrases and expressions of Spring Festival.
2. Analysis of the Students
The students in my class are creative and active. They are interested in the festivals. They like to talk about information on the celebration of Spring Festival. They will try their best to master the knowledge in this unit.

1. Knowledge objects
(1) To learn and master the new words and phrases “February”, “January”, “luck”, “celebrate”, ”traditional”, “have a look at”, “It means”, “sweep away” and “ Merry Christmas”.
(2) To learn and master Present continuous tense.

To identify information on the celebration of Spring Festival and write something about festival..
3. Moral objects
Make the students love to know more knowledge on the celebration of Spring Festival and dare to express their opinions in English.

Part1. Pre-reading
Step1. Warming-up
First I’ll divide the Ss into two groups. If they can answer my questions correctly, I’ll give them a star. Here I will let the Ss say what they know about Spring Festival.
Purpose: Talking about Spring Festival can attract the students’ attention and make them interested in the class.
Step2 Leading-in
1. Show the students some pictures of Spring Festivals, like cleaning the house, making lanterns, visiting friends and so on. Teach them the new words and expressions.
Purpose: After seeing the pictures, the students will know what the new words and expressions are and they can learn them quickly and easily.
2. Make the students work in pairs, look at the pictures in Activity 1 and talk about what’s happening.
Purpose: To develop the students’ ability of speaking and pair work.
Part2. While-reading
Step1. Fast-reading and listening
Listen to the passage and then ask the students to read the passage quickly to match the paragraphs with the pictures in Activity1.
Purpose: By reading the passage quickly, the students can get the main idea of the passage.
Step2. Careful-reading
1. Read paragraph1 and 2 answer the questions.
2. Read paragraph3 and 4 and complete the sentences.
Purpose: By doing the exercise, the students will have a better understanding of the passage and master some key structures.
3. Let the Ss read the passage aloud, pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation.
Purpose: By this step the students can have a chance to practice their reading abilities.
Part3 Post—reading
Let the Ss complete the passage with the words in the box.
Purpose: to consolidate what they have learned and have a better understanding of the text.
Part4 Practice
Look at the notes about Christmas in Britain, match the notes with the headings and join two notes with “and”.
Purpose: Task-based teaching method is used here to develop students’ abilities of using the language.
Part5 Writing
Make the students write a passage about Christmas in Britain.
Purpose: This step is designed to practice the Ss’abilities of writing and they can put what they have learned into practice.
Part5. Summary and Homework
1. Summary
Ask the students to use some key words and phrases to make some sentences.
2. Homework
Ask the students to make a passage about what people do to celebrate for Christmas in Britain, using the present continuous tense.
Purpose: The students have input some knowledge. In this part, the students will output some knowledge to have a self-assessment.
