Benny looks like any adorable 3-month-old cat but he has an important role to fill. This gray-haired and green-eyed creature with playful energy is the newest addition at the Swanton Public Library in Ohio, reported WTOL News. And he is creating quite a following.
Benny's story is one of coming from the mean streets to a life of pets. The stray(流浪的) cat was found on the streets after he was thrown out of a truck. He was rescued and brought to the Wood County Humane Society(WCHS) where he was able to recover from his injuries.
Benny was adopted by Anna Burwell, an employee of the Swanton Public Library and she started to bring him to work. Benny thrived at the library and took on the role of a protector and well, just being adorable. Of course, he goes home for the night and does not actually live in the library.
“The kids love him,” Burwell told WTOL. “People tend to react really well to animals.”
Benny spends his days making his way around the library, running through the empty bottom shelves and leading the children into Storytime. In just a few weeks, he has made a perfect impression on the community.
“A couple of people have come up to the desk and ask for him,” Burwell
Given the positive reaction to Benny, the library is considering certifying him as atherapy cat, reported The Messenger. That's because he is a good listener and makes the children feel comfortable.
Keeping cats in libraries is a tradition. In fact, cats were kept in libraries during the Middle Ages to keep rats from eating the parchment scrolls(羊皮卷).And they have been an integral part of library around the world ever since.
While library cats are not without controversy because they may carry harmful bacteria and some have had to be rehomed, the tradition of library cats is alive and well with Benny.

A. He was well-known.
B. He was very healthy.
C. He was badly treated.
D. He was luckily adopted.
25. What can we know about Benny's life in the library

B. He actually lives in the library.
C. He has helped treat many adults.
D. He needs to keep quiet in a corner.
26. Why does the author mention the library cats during the Middle Ages in paragraph 8
A. To warn library cats can bring harmful effects.
B. To show cats lived a much better life in the past,
C. To tell the tradition of library cats is hard to observe.
D. To prove library cats have been around for a long time.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. A Former Stray Cat Enjoys Life in a Library.
B. An Old Tradition Finally Makes Its Comeback.
C. An Adorable Cat Lends Children to Read More.

With the arrival of the summer heat, cultural-themed ice creams are once again popular across social media platforms in China.
Museums, scenic spots, amusement parks and even universities have once again rolled out their unique cultural-themed ice creams this year. These ice creams are often tiny copies of famous landmarks or cultural relics that offer visitors a delight for the taste buds.
The trend of cultural-themed ice creams began in 2019 when the Old Summer Palace in Beijing was one of the first scenic spots in China to introduce lotus(莲花)-shaped ice creams. It was inspired by that in 2017 eleven ancient lotus seeds were discovered in a pool at the Old Summer Palace. Six of these ancient lotus seeds bloomed in the summer of 2019. So to mark the occasion, staff at the Old Summer Palace designed ice creams shaped like lotus blossoms. These ice creams were widely loved by visitors, not only serving as a cold treat but also offering a unique way for visitors to sample and connect with their cultural heritage.
To protect their cultural relics, many museums have put up signs prohibiting photography or the use of a flash. However, cultural-themed ice creams provide an alternative way for visitor's to catch memories of their visit. Various flavors offer visitors a choice of colors and ingredients for the ice cream, which reflect the local characteristics and charm of these cold treats. It is also suggested by the museums that the visitors can take the carved ice cream bars home with them to use as bookmarks.
For many young people, taking photos of themselves standing alongside cultural landmarks is an artistic preference from their parents' generation. To them, a selfie(自拍) with a cultural-themed ice cream is a much cooler way to show off their travel experiences and bridge the gap between modern life and distant historical relics.

About 50 years ago, the famous British band The Beatles sang that "money can't buy me love". Today, British economists are saying that it perhaps can't buy you happiness either. This is showed by the happy planet index(HP, 快乐指数)published recently by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) in Landon’
The index is about how well countries are using their resources. It shows how well they provide people with better health and longer and happier lives, and at what cost to their environment.
It would seem to be common sense that people in richer countries live happier lives, while those in developing countries are having a harder time of it. But the results are surprising, even shocking, The numbers show that some of the so-called developed countries are performing very badly. The United States, for example, comes in at an unbelievable 150th. On the other hand, some little-known developing countries are doing a much better job. A tiny island in the Pacific, Vanuatu, comes in first. There are 178 countries and areas in the index. China ranks 31.
Countries are graded on the basis of information supplied in response to the following questions. How do people feel about their lives How long does the average person live How greatly does a country need to use its natural resources---such as oil, land and water---to maintain standards This is what the index calls the "ecological footprint".
The NEF found that the people of island nations enjoy the highest HPI rankings. Their populations live happier and longer lives, and use fewer resources.
The results also seem to show that it is possible to live longer, happier lives with a much smaller environmental impact. The index points out that people in the US and Germany enjoy similar lives.
“However, Germany's ecological footprint is only about half that of the US. This means that Germany is around twice as efficient as the US at producing happy lives,” says Nic Marks, head of NEF's Center for well-being.
So the happy planet index (HP1) tells us a brand-new concept of understanding “being happy”. HPI figures out different countries or individuals' HPI through their “Ecological Footprint” and “Life Satisfaction Level” or “Life Expectancy”. Clearly, people's HPI is related to their consumption of the resources on the earth.
You can find out your own HPI by visiting http://www.happyplanetindex.org.
32.What's the passage mainly about
A. Why money can't buy you happiness.
B. In which country people feel the happiest.
C. The happy planet index published recently.
D. What index can influence people's happiness.
33. According to the passage, what is the index related to
A. Wealth, education, resources and health.
B. Lives, health, resources and the environment.
C. Pressure, accommodation, resources and health
D. Education, money, the environment and resources.
34. What can be known about the countries with low HPI rankings
A. They have far fewer happy people.
B. They are only developing countries.
C. They do not enjoy plenty of resources.
D. They have a greater impact on the environment.
35. What does the comparison between Germany and the US show
A. History and culture play an important role in people's lives.
B. All the people in developed countries don't enjoy happy lives.
C. It is possible to live happier and longer lives with fewer resources.
D. Some of the so-called developed countries are performing very badly.

When I was ten, I was very shy. Kids, adults, pretty much everyone made me nervous. But then one day, one single ride on a school bus changed that.
The school bus that day was crowded, hot and smelly. The windows were all rolled up-bus driver's order---it was simply raining too hard to have them down. I sat alone as usual, speaking to no one. Over and over, I carefully wiped a small circle through the cloud on my window so that I could see the rushing water outside.
The bus stopped, waiting for an accident to clear. As 1 sat quietly, waiting and watching, I saw n cat across the street on the other side of the road. He was all wet and didn't seem to know where to go. I wanted to go get the cat, but I knew Mrs. Foster would never allow me off the bus. It was against the rule to even stand up. I thought that if I pointed out the poor cat, the other kids would probably laugh at me.
When I wiped the window clear again, I could see the cat struggling in what seemed to be a dirty river, My heart was racing, and tears were rolling down my cheeks. The bus began to move forward. The cat's eyes locked on to mine. He was begging for help. I looked around, but nobody else seemed to have noticed that.
When Mrs. Foster shouted for us to sit well, I couldn't help standing up, directly disobeying her.“Mrs. Foster!” I cried. Every single person on the bus stopped talking and looked at me. “A cat. There's a cat outside,” I said. “If we don't help him, he'll drown!” I held out a shaking hand and pointed. Mrs. Foster, to my amazement, didn't shout at me. Nor did the other kids laugh at me. Instead, she pulled the bus to the side of the busy road. “Children,” she said seriously. “No one is to leave this bus.”

(一)
Dear Danniel,
I'm writing to share with you a rope skipping contest held on the playground of our school last Thursday.
It was an extraordinary activity where every class tried their best to win. First, the classes were divided into several groups to compete against each other. Then, the top three were decided at last. It was exciting and fun, with every student cheering loudly.
Our class was the final winner. Through this activity, I felt it was the teamwork that led to our success. Besides, what we should do in our free time is work out more to build up our body.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours, Li Hua

Then she rushed out into the traffic and rain. She walked across the street as we all watched in silence. With one quick movement, Mrs. Foster grabbed the cat and pulled him into the safety of her arms. She removed her own coat to wrap him in it, and then she raced back to the bus. We all cheered until she motioned for us to be quiet. “We'll have to look for his owner to see if he has a family already,” Mrs. Foster said, as she handed me the wet cat. “I know," I replied.
“I can help to find whether he has a family ,” I promised to Mrs. Foster. The next day, I put flyers up all over the town, put an advertisement in the paper and contacted the local animal shelters and pet stores. That meant I was forced to talk to many people, both kids and adults. There was no room for shyness and fear. To my surprise, I slowly gained more confidence in myself. I never did find anyone to claim that cat, so he became a cherished member of my family. Since then on, I have learned to speak up, overcoming my shyness.
