Food brings people together on many different levels. It’s nourishment(滋养品) of the soul and body; it’s truly love.”
-Giada De Laurentiis
Quote in the opening page
Food not only provides nutrition for people’s mental and physical health, but also plays an important role in maintaining their social and cultural bonds. In this sense, food feeds both the body and the heart.
In a traditional society, cooking food is a way to show love to the family. The memories of the food, the old recipes, and the times spent together become treasured aspects of life.

2.These groups traditionally wandered the open range on horses.
3.The flavour preferences of Americans often differ from those of the Chinese.
4.Family is important to the people in north China.
Effect
A.Chinese food in America is changed to suit American tastes.
B. Their traditional foods are what you can cook over an open fire.

D Making dumplings has always been a family affair with every one -from the youngest to the oldest -joining to help.
Match the causes to the effects below.

因果关系
Sometimes two ideas are related to each other by cause and effect. That is, one thing causes something else to happen. Cause-and-effect relationships can be direct involving some signposts. For example, “lt was raining, so l took my umbrella."
However, some cause-and-effect relationships are not direct, and some may also have more than one cause or effect.
Thinking
1. Do you think “culture and cuisine go hand in hand”
Give your reasons.
Yes, because so much of a culture is based upon food and how it is eaten and served.
No, with the impact of globalization, all kinds of food are available everywhere, so food no longer reflects cultures.
In addition, in this fast-changing world, everything is changing, including cuisines.
Discussion
Imagine that it is true that people's personalities are closely linked to the food they eat, what does eating the following foods tell you about a person
spicy food, vegetarian food, junk food, seafood, sweets, chocolate, rice, noodles, onion, garlic, bacon, ham, sausage, cabbage, mushroom, bean curd
Possibly people who like spicy food may have a hot temper and love excitement and new experiences and people who like junk food like to enjoy life without worrying about the future.
THANKS!
