Months ago, a 76-year-old woman named Marie Boyer fell in her house. For days, she couldn’t move. Because her windows were closed, no one could hear her cry out.
On the fourth day, her regular mail carrier, Lisa Sweeney, returned from vacation and noticed something wrong. Though she and Marie hadn't had much conversation over the years, Lisa knew her customer's habits. The mails in the mailbox, untouched garbage cans in front of the house and the car in the driveway were clear warning signs. She knocked on the door next to Marie's, but the man in the house had been away on vacation too and didn't know anything. "I just had a feeling that Marie was inside," Lisa says. She called the police and waited until the police arrived.
Rescuers broke in through a back window to discover Marie unconscious (不省人事的). Learning that Marie was still alive, Lisa burst into tears, so glad that her customer of 11 years had been rescued.
Since that August day, Marie has moved into a new place, but Lisa visits her regularly and still brings her mail. They even celebrated Marie's 77th birthday at a restaurant across the street. Lisa's son has been known to stop by to see Marie too. The close connection built that summer day continues stronger than ever.
On Thanksgiving Day, Lisa's home held extra guests: Marie and her son, daughter-in-law and daughter. It was their first Thanksgiving together as a family since Marie's own mother passed away. Lisa brought Marie over early to join them. Due to Lisa's help, Marie is fortunate to have a new life. "Actually, it's lucky for me too. My life has become more colorful and happier because I have a new family member: Marie," Lisa says.

Teenagers' fitness(健康) is now a major problem, to which physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientist Dr. Helen Lopez offers the following advice to teenagers: "First, you need to find out your present level of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier."
Dr. Lopez points out that there are three levels of fitness that need a change of lifestyle. "Overweight" means that the person gets very little exercise and often has a serious weight problem. "Inactive" means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. "Active" refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but do not have a high fitness level.
According to Dr. Lopez, overweight teenagers should keep active to keep healthy. "Ride a bike, play volleyball or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn calories." Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some bending and stretching exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, starting with twenty of each a day. "Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger," said Dr. Lopez. The same principle applies to active teenagers.
Dr. Lopez suggests one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. "These are really important in order to prevent injuries," Dr. Lopez said. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be planned in the programme in order to increase the person's strength.
28.Which of the following statements is NOT the reason why physical exercise is important
A. It can make the teenagers grow taller. B. It can help teenagers become healthier.
C. It can help to burn up calories. D. It can increase teenagers' strength.
29.What can we learn from the passage
A. Active people always have a high fitness level. B. Overweight people always take more exercise.
C. Inactive teenagers are not seriously overweight. D. Keeping fit means changing teenagers' lifestyle.
30.In order to prevent injuries, you should do some ________ exercises.
A. walking B. stretching and bending C. riding D. weight-training
31.What is the best title for the passage
A. Doing exercises B. Teenagers' Fitness C. Different Lifestyles D. Overweight Teenagers

Chinese food is well received by the world. Who doesn't want a favorite Chinese dish But there is one interesting concept about Chinese food which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East — the ancient custom of "tonic (滋补) food".
Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve one's health or avoid illness. For instance, it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil (麻油) hot pot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as goat meat and spinach(菠菜), are seen as "hot", while others, such as Chinese cabbage and carrots, are seen as "cold". One should be careful not to eat too much of either "hot" or "cold" food. However, how much "hot" or "cold" food one should eat depends on the time of the year, how the food is prepared and what it is prepared with, and the individual's health.
The custom of employing tonic food for a healthier life also influences the catering industry. Chinese herbal medicines, such as wolfberry (枸杞), can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as overworked office staff, in need of a modest pick-me-up.
So, whether you need to increase your strength with a large helping of chicken soup, or increase your mental powers with a serving of fish soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be just the tonic you were looking for.
32.What is the present situation of tonic food
A. It is catching less attention. B. It is enjoyed by many young people.
C. It is well-known worldwide. D. It is becoming increasingly popular.
33.What is believed to do good to new mothers
A. Chinese cabbage. B. Fruit tea. C. Fish soup. D. Sesame oil hot pot.
34.Which of the following best explains "catering" underlined in Paragraph 3
A. Medicine. B. Restaurant. C. Manufacture. D. Agriculture.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Charm of Chinese Cuisine
B. The Popularity of Tonic Food
C. An Introduction of Chinese Tonic Food
D. Differences Between Hot Food and Cold Food

Isla and I were studying in the same school. We had been friends since we were six years old. I took Isla as a smart, funny friend, but not all students at our school did, especially the girl students. Girls in our school wore fashionable clothes, but Isla’s old clothes and her curly hair and thick glasses made her look like a fish, which made her unpopular.
For me, sometimes I felt embarrassed to be around Isla, particularly when students said rude words about her hair, clothes, glasses—even about the fact that she got really good grades. Isla always seemed not to care about what other students thought, but I couldn t. I began to distance myself from her.
Our school had a tradition—there was a talent show every spring. Students would sing, dance, play musical instruments, and do whatever they could to show their talents. Ava, who was an outgoing girl, invited me to be on her dance team. “We win the talent show every year, and we expect to win again this year,” Ava said to me excitedly. “We need a new dancer. But only you, not her!” Ava pointed to someone behind me.
I didn t need to turn around to see who she meant. “Oh, I see,” I said quietly. Suddenly, I felt someone pat my shoulder. It was Isla. When I saw her confused face, it was like waking up from a dream. Isla asked me excitedly, “Emily, are you going to take part in the talent show ” I didn’t respond. “That s great, Emily!” Isla told me without waiting for my answer that she was also going to take part this year. I couldn t believe what I had heard. I started to worry about her when I imagined that she was in front of a huge crowd, and that everybody would laugh at her.
Time passed quickly, and I had hardly seen Isla since then. For me, I had to practice hard every day with Ava and the team.

第四部分 写作
第一节
Good morning, everyone. I feel it an honor to address a speech titled "My dream job".
Of the wide range of jobs around us, I will choose to be a teacher. My mother accounts for my choice first. Her commitment to teaching and happiness of being a teacher motivate me. Additionally, it is the inquisitive faces from my future students that reinforce my idea. At last, I am eager to make a difference to those for whom education is their only ticket to success.
Not only will I spare no effort to learn my lessons, but I will also develop some qualities required to be a good teacher. Thank you!
第二节
Finally, it was my turn to perform, and I felt extremely nervous. I didn’t want to be regarded as different from the others. Isla walked to me and hugged me tightly. “Come on, Emily!” Isla encouraged me. “I believe you will do great because you are a wonderful dancer. Don’t care too much about what others think. Just trust yourself." Soon, I took my place on the stage. I remembered every step and every move. When the music was over, the crowd burst into cheers. At that moment, I felt like a dancing queen!
I left the stage and expressed my thanks to Isla, who was ready to sing. I was a little worried at the beginning because the crowd became restless. Luckily, Isla ignored it. I stood up, shouting, “Isla, you are the best!” Her homemade dress was shining in the light, but her eyes were clouded with tears. When Isla’s singing died down, all the students were still lost in her unique voice. Some even began singing like her, and then more. Their singing resounded around the hall. I rushed to the stage after her performance, hugging her cheerfully. That was enough! We could never be distanced.
