[2024遂宁中考]What time does your school start Do you wish you could get up later every morning You are not alone if your answer is "Yes." In the US, many middle school students have the same wish.
In America, many schools start before 7:30 a.m. But that may change soon. A new law has been passed in California. According to the law, middle schools should not start before 8:00 a.m. The government hopes school children will have longer time in bed.
Many scientific studies show that teenagers are more active in the afternoon and in the evening. Simply telling them to go to bed earlier doesn't work well. Most of them don't get enough sleep because of bad sleeping habits and early school starting time. They need more sleep in the morning. Scientists suggest middle schools should start at 8:00 a.m. or later. Students can get well ready to learn and they won't fall asleep in class. The change can help improve students' grades.
While scientists are happy with the new law, many parents disagree with it. They won't be able to send their children to school before they go to work. They also fear that later school starting time will lead to later ending time. As a result, their children will have less time to take part in after-school activities.
It's good news that Chinese education experts have noticed the problem and made some rules about that. So what's your opinion Do you expect China to pass a similar law

3 新考法 Which sentence do you think can be filled in the blank in Paragraph 3
A. They can put on weight.

[2024常德中考改编]My name is Alice Black. I am thirteen years old, and I come from Mount Elm Sheep Station in South Australia. I have got two sisters — Jenifer is eleven and Lisa is seven. We are all students at the School of the Air.
The School of the Air is a school for children who live far from the cities, and who are in a place which does not have a local school. So we have "air" lessons over the radio or on the computer. Our teachers are at Port Augusta, a city which is about 160 kilometres away.
In the morning, we go to our school at 8:45. △ When we get there, we turn on the radio or computer and listen to what we should do. From then until twelve, we just do our usual lessons. In the afternoon, our mum makes us do some homework — well, not homework, but more work around the house.
We send our exercise "books" to our teachers by email on Friday night. They mark them on Monday and Tuesday, and then send them back. We get them on Wednesday.
The Internet and the telephone help us get in touch with our teachers quickly and easily. We talk to our teachers once a week for about ten minutes. They tell us if we are making progress.
Next year I will study at a new school in Port Augusta. I will spend the weekdays there and come home at weekends. It will be good to be with teenagers of my age, but I will miss my family. I hope I will be happy there.

Have you ever wondered what life in an American high school is really like This article will describe a typical(典型的) high school and the students there.
A typical American high school has several large buildings and enough space for about 1,500 students. Every student is given a locker. When students first arrive at school, they go straight to their lockers to get their textbooks for the later classes or their outdoor clothes for activities. As American textbooks are expensive, students would like to borrow instead of buying them. Students must pay for it if they lose any of them.
American students have different types of school transportation(交通方式). They usually take a yellow school bus or walk to school when they live close. Sometimes their parents drive them to school. When they are more than 16 years old, most take a free driving class at school for one term. If students earn(赢得) passing grades in the class and also pass their state driver's exam, they can begin driving themselves to school.
Each day, students have six or seven classes. They must take main courses(主要课程) such as science, maths, English and social studies. They can choose art, homemaking, fashion design and other elective courses(选修课程). In some schools students are required to take one or more of the following special courses: health education, physical education or foreign language studies. Students move to different classrooms for different subjects. This is because each teacher has his own classroom. There is a five-minute break between classes, giving students the time to hurry to their next class.
The regular school day usually ends early in the afternoon. After school more than half of the students take part in after-school activities. These activities include sports, especially basketball, baseball and soccer.
